Marie had once heard a quote that went along the lines of ‘And those dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.’ and she quite liked it. A little thing about perspective in daily life but also an important thing to add to her growing ‘Attempts at hobbies’ list. So far she had tried going back to college which ended in fire and violence. Then she attempted to protest unfair retail hours at a Tacker’s office supply store which ended in fire and violence. She had even gone off to Jingle Village to be the hero of a teen romcom where she saves the town from an evil real estate developer and that had also ended in fire and violence.
She was beginning to realize that she had a real talent for it. So today she had chosen to sing and it was a slightly off-pitch thing from a throat not quite used to such actions and a voice not in the least bit trained for it. Had she still been attached to her old life it would have been so embarrassing as to be paralyzing but she had found a little tune and-
“Sun is shinin’ in the sky. There ain’t a cloud in sight. It's stopped rainin', everybody's in the play and don't you know it's a beautiful new day? Hey~♪”
It was going alright.
There was a bop in the morning air, a quiet jovial hum flitting through the air and filling the room with an upbeat sort of energy painfully at odds with the scene playing out. Marie had been meandering her way down the sidewalk in Central City once more on the hunt for some poor workers to save from the frightful life of retail hell when she had come across the tiniest, quaint, little
FRANCHISE
And it had set her blood to boil. Irrational? Even she would admit it was definitely being blown out of proportion when she stepped into the coffee shop, Starluck, and proceeded to hop over the counter in defiance of social norms and niceties for waiting in line and dragged her nails across the register.
Learn death with your elbows, death with your knees, and death with your thumbs and fingertips.
Ever since her run-in with the law-abiding Alien, Marie had found it easier and easier to give into her self-tutoring in the act of ‘cutting’ and thus violence. Before she would have needed to pull free her blade to slice through the building in a brutal and mad-enhanced attack but now her finger-tips were just as good as they cut micron-thin lines through the plastic and metal of the register.
“Excuse me, customers of this franchise and workers oppressed by the financial system. Please vacate in the next sixty seconds before I turn this building into a heap of rubble. Thank you!”
She was happy and still humming her tune while she called out to the crowd. For a moment none of them seemed quite ready to believe her about the impending violence but her hand swung out casually and a thin line curved along the wall before the building began to shake and shift as a finely controlled cut severed the room in half horizontally just above the patron’s head.
Marie felt too happy. It was a rare emotion for her these days but the addition of free the oppressed from their shackles was another cap on it. Who cared if she still had no idea where she was really going? She certainly didn’t. Still she had the time before the building began to actually collapse to make herself a little frap and another line of the song came to mind as she pulled on the dispenser for coffee.
"Hey you with the pretty face Welcome to the human race A celebration, Mr. Blue Sky's up there waitin' And today is the day we've waited for~♪"
