Backstory
Shiyon was born on Tetar, a telluric planet orbiting a small sun in the Shiva stellar stream, located in the Scutum-Centaurus (the outermost) arm of the Milky Way. It is the fourth planet of its solar system. In spite of the picturesque landscapes, Tetar is not very welcoming to visitors due to its immense gravity, which occurs because of the proximity between the many stars that compose Shiva. As a result, tetarians possess very strong bodies, with really dense bones and muscles to make up for the intense gravitational pull they are constantly subjected to. The species is mostly known though, for their distinctive extra appendages, allowing them to make use of four functional arms in combat. All tetarians are also naturally tetradextrous.
As an individual, Shiyon grew up earning himself some notoriety as a young troublemaker. Not by any sort of character flaw, no, but quite the opposite. Because of his strong sense of justice, he has always been pretty reactive to unjust acts, never failing an opportunity to stick up for the underdog. And standing towering 7’42” feet tall, way above his average kin, he certainly made good use of his innate gifts.
Shiyon’s ideals and convictions eventually led him to study and apply to law enforcement. He wanted to make the difference, battling and punishing the tyrants, bullies and day-to-day bad guys that plague the society in his young naivety of aspiring to make it a better place. He didn’t find what he looked for, though, realizing in his very first year in the service that most of the times, bureaucracy and politics can make a far more terrible villain than any ki-shooting toon he could think of.
After witnessing a hit-and-run during his shift, Shiyon chased the assailant until he caused his vehicle to crash. A drunken miscreant then came out of the flying car screaming offenses and when told as politely as was possible to behave, he started pulling ranks and threats. As Shiyon never responded well to stuck up people, especially those who think themselves above others, he decided to teach him a lesson. By beating him senseless. Unfortunately for him, the crook was the son of a powerful and wealthy man and that run in ended up costing not only his job, but also his freedom and almost his life.
Following the incident, the delinquent’s father bought the silence of the victims, of Shiyon’s partner and the put the best lawyers he could hire on contract in order to get back at Shiyon. Since no charges were pressed, it was easy to circumvent the supposed hit-and-run, specially since he left the casualties to his partner’s care in order to hunt the perpetrator down. On top of that, his history as a troublemaker didn’t speak highly of Shiyon. And for someone as influent as his just-earned nemesis, it was easy to dig the young cop’s past.
In the end, Shiyon was taken to court. And taken down. They alleged he was a violent individual and nearly killed his accuser during their unfortunate encounter. The tables were turned and the law enforcer ended up as the one in the wrong and considered a danger to society. He was stripped of his job and subsequently sent to prison, under the accusation of attempted murder. As for the vandal, he got off with a meager fine. Four arms or two arms, it seems corruption doesn’t make much of a distinction.
Following the trial, Shiyon was sent to Quarta, one of Tetar’s moons, to where only the most dangerous individuals were normally sent. His tormenters didn’t get a death or life sentence, but they certainly were expecting the “other side of the law” to take care of it itself. But being bigger and stronger than the norm, again, proved to be a gift and the former cop managed to survive his predicament. And he kept on surviving until the last days of his sentence, making a name for himself amongst the other prisoners. He was finally close to the exit. But of course, life wouldn’t let it be over that easily, would it?
Even after all these years, the man responsible for his imprisonment feared retaliation, specially with the fame Shiyon earned in jail. So he arranged for one last attempt against his life: he paid the guards supposed to escort him back to Tetar to kill the ex-policeman. Having honed his skills for years in the most inhospitable place known to his culture, however, it was pretty easy for Shiyon to fend off the attackers. On the other hand, he would most certainly be unjustly held accountable as a villain after what’s just transpired with the corrupt guards. So, taking the accusation to heart, he would go on to pay a visit to his old “friend”. But first, he had to pay a visit to a certain special someone: his mother.
In Quarta, prisoners were denied contact with everyone in the outside, so Shiyon and Tesseris spent all these years without hearing from each other. You can only imagine his pain when he found out she died not long after he was incarcerated. His mother always had a fragile health. Having his son humiliated and taken away to a place such as Quarta was probably too much for her. His father Viel wasn't around anymore as well, having been dead since he was a little boy. He was now all alone in a world that he no longer belonged to and had nowhere else to go. There was only one last stop for him: Vendetta Station.
First, he found out the whereabouts of his old partner Rufo. He made it to detective. Questionable morals definitely seems to pay off in certain cases. He intercepted him and demanded information about his old acquaintance Yots — the delinquent from years back — and his father, who went by the name Taurok. Or as he was called nowadays: President Taurok. Yes, Shiyon’s nemesis was no one other than the current supreme authority of Tetar. That would make reckoning a tad bit harder than originally planned.
All things considered, Shiyon had nothing else to lose. He had no family. No ties. No home. So he marched towards the Presidential Palace. He waited until night time to make it easier to go in undetected. But President Taurok was already prepared for him. When it came to his knowledge that his assassins failed, he contacted the Galactic Patrol, advertising Shiyon as a dangerous escaped convict that would destroy Tetar in his so-called revenge. Oblivious to Taurok's and Shiyon’s past, they sent an agent to help protect the planet: a namekian named Nemo.
Inside the palace, Shiyon found it empty, with the exception of the few guards posted outside. And Nemo. Taurok knew he was coming for him and set an ambush. Shiyon was eventually bested in combat and knocked out. He would unexpectedly wake up moments later, tied down and ready to be boarded in Nemo’s spaceship. He thought he was going to be killed, given Taurok’s disposition towards him, but apparently this namekian was too by-the-book for that. He intended to take him to the Galactic Patrol, where he would again be locked up, probably for good.
As Nemo finished his preparations to leave, the thought of being unjustly jailed while the real bad guy got away again caused Shiyon’s blood to boil. The emotional strain caused him to “transform” for the first time, giving him the second wind and edge he needed to overcome the odds and take down his captor, before he could leave the planet with him. He stole his spaceship and took away from Tetar. In the outerspace, he contemplated his planet one last time and with his arms projected towards it, charging his Zankokushibaihō, he was ready to end it all, finally turning into the monster he was being painted as all these years. But one last thought of his dear mother brought him back to his senses and he stepped back. He went through the ship’s navigation panel and chose a random location from the vessel’s itinerary, far away from his cursed homeland, setting the course.
His path would eventually lead him to a planet called Earth, where he intended to begin a new life. After landing in the middle of a desert, Shiyon destroyed the ship to erase his tracks and then marched towards the sunset, unsure of what the future held for him. And thus, his story in the world of Dragonball: Sparking begins!
