BACKGROUND: Three years ago, in the heart of winter a tragedy occurred. Yoshida Kawakatsu was a scientist who specialized in gene therapy. This was not a field he had intended to go very far in, though due to personal circumstances he found he had no choice. He son was born with a myriad of health problems, of which the current medical field was unequipped to deal with. Yoshida slaved away at his work, in the hopes that he might be able to find the breakthrough his son needed to survive.
While his boy was clinging to life only thanks to the litany of machines he was attached to, Yoshida was forced push the bounds of what was considered acceptable. At first it was only little things; experiments which his peers may have considered unethical if they knew what was going on. Pushing his subjects beyond what any reasonable scientist would have. When the results started to fall behind however... Yoshida realized he needed to go further.
The genetic material he was given was simply not good enough to save his son, and so he looked elsewhere, to other species. He started with primates, whose material was closely related to Humans. When that too failed Yoshida went further, crossing over to alien species. Given his own unfamiliarity with their genetic make up he was forced to turn to the black market, enlisting the help of black market surgeons to aid in his research.
By now he had been shunned and outcast by his community, but what of it? All that mattered was his boy. Days turned into weeks turned into months, and by now his own family was ready to give up. Upon hearing that the boy's mother had decided to pull the plug... had his work been for nothing? By the time Yoshida arrived at the hospital it was already too late. His child was gone... but Yoshida wasn't willing to give up yet.
Snatching the corpse from out of the bed, Yoshida rushed from the hospital and back to his lab, where he began to rebuild what he had lost. He recycled as much as he could, and borrowed from anywhere that offered viable genetic material. Within a great tube filled with green liquid lay a homunculus, and although it could hardly be called Human Yoshida didn't care. Day by day he fed the creature, until it grew too large to be housed in it's cylindrical home any longer.
Yoshida released his creation, smashing the glass vial himself. As the water spilled out it revealed the creature down on one knee. The old scientists moved forward, ready to embrace his son, but he was met with a different sort of embrace. The creature stood up, towering over the Human before him. As Yoshida neared the creature's chest burst apart, revealing a mandible on either side. In one foul motion Yoshida was devoured, leaving his creation to wonder... what next? He only had one thing on his mind: the hunger.
