BACKGROUND: Born on Planet Plant to a family recently promoted to nobility through military service, fighting skill excellence was expected of Mayze from an early age. The little free time he had with his father was spent on grueling training sessions, meant to mold him into a capable warrior. Mayze came to bond with his father despite the few chances he got with him. Alas, his father died during his early teenage years and Mayze's mood came to be cool, brooding, and disinterested. Even though his family had a storied military history, many of the born-elite looked down upon his family for their common orgins. Mayze came to resent the nobility, and often found himself in brawls with the pure-born noble children his age. Eventually, his discontentment came to outweigh the loyalty he felt he owed to his species and family name, and so he found his way off the planet sometime following his sixteenth birthday.
A few months into his outer space adventures, he found himself at the recruitment office of a mercenary group. The change of scenery was refreshing for the saiyan. His fellow company members valued fighting skill above all else, and Mayze could fight well. He participated in many battles and skirmishes, earning a reputation for his calm and cool nature in the heat of combat. The group managed to avoid fighting on Plant for several years, focusing on smaller, less risky ventures in the northern quadrant of the galaxy that still paid well. He bonded with a few of the members that managed to stay alive battle through battle, particularity a small friendship with a kontasian named Haupien. He developed a sense of camaraderie with his fellow mercenaries, and throughout the conflicts his loyalty to the group grew.
However, good things can not last forever, and slowly contracts in the North dried up, leaving the only conflict offering plenty of coin on Planet Plant. Five years after Mayze's departure, he found his way back on the war-torn, god-forsaken planet.
