"How do I look?" Gira twirled around in front of her best friend, Kaci, dressed in her usual gi. She had taken it to a dry cleaner's just to be absolutely sure it looked fresh and clean for the announcement. Gira was going to be speaking to the entire galaxy after all, so she wanted to be sure she looked nice. It made her a little nervous. Gira had never spoken to the public before, let alone in front of the billions of people she would be addressing here shortly.
"Looking good, sis." Kaci didn't look up from her tablet as she continued working on merging their network with the Arcosian Empire's. Ticoga had been gracious enough to allow Gira to utilize the empire's broadcasting network to make sure the announcement reached as many people as possible, but it required a fair amount of work on their end. Gira pouted when she realized that Kaci hadn't even looked at her.
"You're not even looking." The young warrior placed her hands on her hips, tapping her foot impatiently. Kaci looked up briefly from her tablet before quickly returning to work.
"Like I said, you look good. You're gonna knock 'em dead. I just need a sec to finish setting up and then we can go live whenever you're ready." After hearing this, Gira stiffened up slightly. The idea of speaking in front of so many people made her feel awkward and nervous. However, what she was going to announce made her so excited that it overrode all other feelings. After a long time of brewing the idea in her head, Gira was going to be hosting a tournament at her newly minted Saiyagirl Tower. Of course, she wasn't going to be letting anyone in on the fact that she herself was The Great Saiyagirl. Not that it was that hard to figure out. Even her pupil, Skivvy, was able to find out who she was with some simple detective work.
Kaci set down her tablet, adjusting the camera that pointed to a simple set; a plain white wall with a banner featuring The Great SAiyagirl, drawn in an ultra-cute chibi style. She was giving the viewer a thumbs up, with text to her side reading; "THE TOURNAMENT OF GLORY." On each side, the banner was flanked by a couple of potted plants to bring the set together. Finally, after all the work was finished, Kaci addressed Gira.
"Okay, we're in. Ready to go live on your cue." Kaci picked her tablet back up, waiting for word from her friend that she was ready to go. Gira cleared her throat, stepping onto the set. After taking a moment to make sure Gira was properly centered in the frame, Kaci gave her a thumbs up. The nervous warrior nodded, returning the gesture.
"Alright, everything's ready. Going live in five... four... three... two..."
Meanwhile, across the galaxy, an image of a young Saiyan woman would appear on the screens of every television that was connected to an imperial broadcasting station. The girl stood awkwardly in place, seemingly unaware that she was on camera. Then, a sudden look of realization crossed her face as she grinned sheepishly and waved to the camera.
"Uh... hi! Sorry to interrupt whatever you were watching, but i'll make this quick, I promise. My name's Gira, and i'm from Earth. I'm a martial artist and i've been itching to fight some strong opponents. That's why i'm inviting every single fighter in the galaxy to come to Earth and participate in a tournament that i'm calling the Tournament of Glory. Like the name would suggest, we're gonna be fighting for glory and bragging rights. Oh, and some nice trophies, too if that's something you care about. I wanna see what the galaxy has to offer when it comes to strong opponents, so I want everyone to participate! Don't worry if you're not the strongest out there. There will be plenty of opportunities in this tournament for you to test your power regardless of how strong you are! My friend will put the coordinates of the tournament grounds on the screen right now. I hope to see you there!" The young Saiyan shuffled awkwardly before giving the viewer a respectful bow. As she did so, the coordinates for the location of Saiyagirl Tower on Planet Earth would appear on the screen. After a few seconds, Gira stood up straight once again.
"Well, I did promise to keep this short, so i'mma let you return to your regularly scheduled programming! The tournament will begin two weeks from the time of this broadcast, so look forward to it! Train, get strong, and show me what you can do! See ya!" Gira cheerfully waved to the camera before the broadcast cut out.
Meanwhile, on Earth, Gira sighed with relief and wiped the sweat from her brow.
"So, uh... how'd I do?" She grinned sheepishly at Kaci, who gave her a thumbs up.
"Not bad for your first time on camera. You seemed a lot more comfortable near the end." The Earthling girl disconnected from the empire's network, setting her tablet down on a nearby table.
"Well, I didn't wanna look stupid or anything like that." Gira chuckled nervously, but soon began to stretch in excitement as she thought about all the strong fighters who had definitely seen her broadcast, hoping that they would answer her call.
"So, did ya get the invitations sent out, too?" Gira looked over at Kaci curiously as she stretched her legs.
"Uh, yeah. To everyone on your list. Even that Lottus guy. Though... i'm curious why you wanted his invitation to be different from the others. It seemed a little... hostile. Do you not like him?" Kaci looked over at her friend curiously, studying her features for any hint to her motives.
"I wanted to give him a challenge he couldn't refuse. Our last battle was technically inconclusive, but i'm not an arrogant idiot like he is. I know I was losing. If he makes it to the final round, which i'm sure he will, then we're gonna have a real fight this time. No distractions. We'll finish it one way or another." Finishing her stretches, Gira looked back at Kaci.
"And Zuq's invitation?" She blushed slightly and waited eagerly for confirmation that it was sent.
"Yup, I got hers sent, too. I gotta say, Gira... I didn't know you had it in you to be that adorable. Writing it in glitter was a nice touch... and sealing it with a kiss? You're gonna make my heart melt." Kaci lightly teased Gira, causing the young Saiyan's blush to overcome her entire face.
"Sh-Shut up... I just wanted to make it special is all." She dug her heels into the carpet nervously.
"Oh, and I know you didn't ask for this, but I used your perfume on it, too. To make it smell like you." Kaci approached Gira and gave her a playful punch on the arm.
"I've got your back, sis. You can count on me to be your wingwoman." Gira nodded slowly, looking up at Kaci with a smile through her embarrassment.
"Th-Thanks. I didn't think about doing that, but that was a good idea." The young Saiyan put her arm around her friend's shoulders in a light hug as a show of gratitude. Kaci giggled and hugged Gira back.
"So, when am I meeting this legendary Zuqetta? If I didn't know any better, i'd think you were embarrassed of me." Kaci squeezed Gira lightly, grinning at her in amusement. Gira shook her head at this accusation, however.
"No, not embarrassed. I guess i'm just nervous is all. I wanna introduce her to my mom, too... but i'm worried she'll be... y'know... weird." Gira nervously kicked at one of the extension cords on the ground.
"Like, Zuqetta's the Saiyan queen, but she's super casual about it most of the time. I'm worried my mom will try to give her the royal treatment. Y'know, with lots of bowing and "your majesty"s. Just the thought of it makes me want to crawl under my bed." Gira chuckled lightly and released Kaci from their hug.
"You're probably right. Kara's just proper like that. You shouldn't be embarrassed though. She just likes to make a good first impression and give people the respect she feels they deserve." Kaci pat Gira on the back as the young Saiyan shrugged.
"Yeah, I guess. I just hope she doesn't lay it on too thick. I want Zuq to feel at ease when she comes to visit." Gira fidgeted a bit, but quickly moved on.
"Well, let's get going. I wanna make sure the arenas are ready for the tournament." She wiped her sweaty palms on her pants before heading towards the door, Kaci following behind.
"Yeah, it'd suck if the forcefields malfunction and we end up with a huge mess on our hands." The Earthling laughed heartily, lightly punching her friend on the arm again as the two headed out the door, taking the elevator up to the first arena.
