Bordered by the sanguine sky. The ruins of a time gone by. A reminder of what's lost. To the Splintered King. "He seeks the Lord's blood. The key to His Shattered Lands." - Corrisandra, The Cruel "Does he accept the costs of this desire? All is list to those that seek passage." - Miranda, The Kind "I have lost all, and with nothing left to submit. His court is all I desire." - Anthon Calvus Act 1, Scene 4 "The Sanguine Key" Sweat beaded down Urdr's brow, having found herself beneath the oppressive sun over the Gizard Wastes. Accompanying Meara at the behest of her sisters, the younger woman had a suspicion the fawn that was her cousin was intent on getting into some sort of trouble. She had an uncanny habit of accomplishing just that without much issue. Only a few miles off in the distance, a small collective of houses sat together, a veritable hamlet surrounded on all sides by nearly barren wasteland. Whether the sweat pooling on her forehead was from the heat or anticipation, Urdr could not determine as the two drew closer and closer to the edge of the place they once called a home. "Are you sure about this?", the younger woman spoke up, turning to face the Faun with a furrowed brow and more than obvious concern in her eyes. The three girls has abandoned this place long after Meara's own mother, and the Faun who had never had to be part of the community had no clue what it was like within. But even Urdr knew there was little she could day when Meara set her mind to something she considered this severe. "You may not know any of them... but surely the elders will know you by the features, are you sure?" Her expression settling on one of sympathy when she turned to face her younger cousin. "I don't have much of a choice." A frown closed the Faun's lips with her reply. Lifting a torn piece of yellowed paper from a pocket in her corset Meara gestured to the item. "I can't let my mother get involved in anymore of his..." The Faun hesitated on this word, her frown deepening for a moment before she chose to continue her statement. "I can't drag hee into any more of its scheming." "Whatever this is, it is my puzzle to solve now.", Meara closed her statement by slipping the paper back from where she drew it forth before. Turning to face the village off in the distance even she would hesitate for a moment, feeling the cold sweat of hesitation intermingle with that induced by the blazing sun overhead. "Do you truly think they will cause us more trouble than be willing to assist us?", the prior resolve seemed to have faded quite a lot from Meara's voice as she spoke, a pale essay creeping over her face but her focus not shifting from the village. Urdr would hesitate for a moment, carefully considering her words ans taking a look at the Faun once more, only now truly seeing the prior well hidden. fear that had come to dominate her posture now. Pursing her lips in thought, the younger woman spoke. "It is hard to tell... we are the product of something they consider antithetical, but before my sisters and I left. they still treated us like people. I can't say for certain if you will get the same treatment or if they will be harsher because of... that." Urdr would motion to the Faun's lower half with her final comment. |
