Out of everywhere on Earth, Tarine had a soft spot for the city he grew up in despite its problems. If it weren't for the rioting and general panic over the recent political shitshow, he'd even still rate it as generally one of the more peaceful places to live overall.*
*(In the way that all the major attacks that he could remember were usually contained to one street at most.)**
**(Which was better than the entire city.)
Apparently it was time for that to change.
Tarine had been content enough enjoying the slight warmth the sun still provided at this time of year, choosing to step out of the crowds both passing by and pouring through the doors of various establishments in favour of hanging closer to a pair of bins while he took his sweet time digging the last few crumbs out of a sandwich bag before he threw it away. This process would have continued a few seconds longer before the redheaded "tuffle" felt something that made his hair stand on end.
Now glaring vaguely in the direction of this disturbance, Tarine knew all too well what it was.
Power, miles above his own by the uncomfortable prickling sensation it caused just trying to read it, he couldn't help but grimace.
...Not "Super Saiyan" level at least but still very strong- somewhere close to the city centre if he were to judge- a cold sensation crept up on him in that moment- he really hoped this was just some idiot flaunting their muscles because-
He could guess that something happened, expenditure of energy of some sort, but no blast came... maybe a flicker of something blue in the distance but he couldn't be sure his eyes weren't playing tricks on him...
He... didn't actually know what to do. Something was off here but he felt like he'd missed a critical piece of the puzzle that would have told him everything. Tarine was stuck looking around in confusion until the voices around him got progressively louder and more frantic sounding as a wave of people flooded into the street followed by an unnatural bright blue fog that seemed to be creeping in behind them. Some cried out in panic as they seemed desperate to push past confused onlookers- while the others that followed, caught up in the mist, or possibly even producing it with the way it billowed off their pale skin, lurched forward in a wholly unnatural manner. Wheezing and rattling as their limbs continued to carry them along in pursuit of those who still had all their faculties- those who didn't have the endurance to escape the hoard, or faltered in their step just enough to fall behind were promptly pounced upon and-
Well, it explained the screaming.
In shock at what he was seeing, Tarine almost didn't realise how fast the mist-afflicted were to converge on his position, a man with glazed over eyes and a snarling expression lunged towards him and he shoved them back with ease before another two took their place and came at him again with gnashing teeth. Not able to bring himself to cave in the skulls of seemingly normal people gone mad, all Tarine could think to do was continue to back away and knock over whoever dared to get close.
Powers were converging at the centre of the city, burning furiously in their intensity as they prepared to clash.
This was about to be a bad day.
