Kuriza city was 'busting' with activity just as the database had supplied. But knowing and seeing are two very different things.
As Paladion went down the frozen streets it observed the different beings, lord Azoth had given it free reign over it's actions for the day.
This was a perfect occasion to fill up the holes Dr. Blizzard had left in the database.
I wonder why they seem to be in such a hurry, wouldn't it more fun if they took their. I do believe beings like fun. That is most puzzling, I should ask instead of wondering, my approach was unoptimized, Paladion scolded itself.
It approached a man, arcosian, his facial structure indicated he was about 56 cycles old. With a power level amongst the norm here on Arcose.
"Hello sir. I wish to know why. You seem to be. In such a hurry, I was led. To believe. Arcosians liked to. Take. Their time. When. Browsing wares."
As I said it and the man turned I realized my mistake, most beings are not accustomed to androids such as myself, this was a mistake... My mind starts spinning when a voice brings me out of my emotions.
"Well young lady, why don't you come her so we can have a bit of a talk, I am sure you can see that you're disrupting the poor man no?"
The voice, gritty and weak still reached my sensitive ears. An old arcosian, female was sitting on the ground, a blanket placed underneath her. She looked old, is all I can say, my facial recognition reaching it's limits and approximating her age at over a 100 cycles. Her power level was very low, not unusual for her age.
"Of course"
I told her and then turned to the man and offered a quick bow.
"My deepest apologies. For my. Unthoughtful. Actions. Sir."
And without a second thought I sat down beside the ancient one.
"I thank you. For your. Willingness. To communicate with me."
I said, looking down at my hands.
"I just realized. That. I am. Unusual. These people. Have never seen. Something such as. Me. Have they?"
The ancient one took out a pipe and put it between her lips before puffing out smoke. I wonder what that is.
"Of course they haven't, have you looked at yourself?" she says between coughs.
She must have caught my inquisitive look then because she follows up, quickly saying.
"This is called smoking, it's bad for you, don't try it." She looks content talking like this. And I think I do too.
A light snow is falling on the dimly lighted streets as the other beings pass by, ignoring our presence completely. This must be what is called 'amicable silence'. But it doesn't seem to apply to me, as my mind is never silent. It spins constantly, analyzing, changing, adapting. But I still think I enjoy it, I don't have to please this person, I can just share their corner of the busy street and be with them. I soak in the atmosphere and daydream for what feels like ages but has only been a couple of minutes when her quiet voice grabs my attention.
"The reason why they're in a hurry is because they do not stop to enjoy what they are doing." she pauses, possibly judging my reaction and planning her next move.
"Some people never take the time to enjoy things, others want to get back to things they enjoy faster. Nothing is a truth with everyone."
This gets me thinking again and I cannot stop myself from asking "Why did you choose. To enjoy. The streets. Then, Do you not. Have other things. To enjoy?" She makes a face at that. But quickly covers it, I wonder why she covers her emotions, it makes it harder for me to understand her.
"Well."
she starts, seemingly taking time to think about what she is going to say.
"Someone has to enjoy them, or they would go to waste wouldn't they?"
I do not fully grasp the concept behind her thought process but she seems satisfied with her wording. Making others happy in one way or another is good I think, it looks good on her.
"And now we're enjoying it the two of us. Let's put our mind to it now. Like my father used to say 'no point putting half of yourself in it'."
She pauses again, my eyes are fixated on her, waiting for her to go on as she signs tiredly.
"The light snow drizzles down onto the streets of the busy town, it is rather late. A little cold with no wind, the evening is starting people are rushing to go to their warm homes. Their solid boots are stomping the fresh snow onto the hard stones that decorate the hard uneven ground of Kuriza."
She says this in an unusual way. a soft tone with a weird rhythm it. I wonder what it is but I cannot spare the time to think about it before she picks up.
"The sound is at the same time overwhelming and soft, the chatter of the people trading and discussing their days, the hard sound of the compressing snow under every foot. The grocerie's walls are still damaged from last winter, old Glacier didn't repair it, when you go inside you can hear the whistling of the wind..."
She goes on like that for minutes upon hours describing most everything she sees. I zone out, I do not know when or why. But when my senses come back on she is gone just like everyone else, leaving me alone with the beautiful sky, which would have been wasted if I wasn't there to witness it.
