BACKGROUND: On the outside, Maki always looked like any average human child. The adoption agency certainly thought the same thing, and the boy found a loving home before reaching the age of two. The couple who adopted Maki were a pair of shop keepers in Central City. Together they made a decent living, but where by no means rich. Their son livid a mostly normal life, until he reached the age of eight. That's when Maki's father noticed his son had awfully high muscle definition of a child his age. It was almost unnatural.
Not long after this realization, Maki's uncle Yorru would pay their family a visit. This man was his father's brother, and an old-school martial artist by his own measure. Yorru saw the natural potential in his nephew, and suggested that he teach the boy martial arts. Maybe it would put the muscles to good use. While his parents were unsure about the proposition at first, Maki's childish excitement and Yorru's promises of safety would be enough to persuade them. It was then that the boy would spend each summer learning from his uncle. At first it was just classic Karate, but later it became Maui Thai. Two arts that he would slowly master over the years, both grappling and striking.
As he reached his teens, Yorru would reveal a completely new concept to the boy, the art of Ki Control. There was once a time before Ki was common knowledge, and this was it. The man would teach his nephew the basics of both flight, Ki sensing, and energy attacks. As the boy learned these things Maki felt like some kind of superhero, but his desire to become stronger quickly quelled his awe. It was around the age of fourteen that Maki made it his goal in life to become stronger than uncle Yorru. Unfortunately, that would be a goal he could never attain.
Just a few short month's later, Maki would be at home eating breakfast when a breaking news bulletin would appear on the tv. The report was about a supposed terror attack in the city! What appeared to be an entire city block was turned into ashes, and his uncle was one of the victims caught in the crossfire. This was the work of a martial artists no doubt, and who could possibly be strong enough to kill his uncle!?
Questions, Grief, and anger all filled Maki's heart. He and his family attended a small funeral for the man, where Maki would silently swear to avenge his uncle's death. First however, he needed to become stronger, and discover exactly who this killer was...
