[ Flashback ]
Colliding with the sun wasn't the worst part for Blizzard, it was surviving it for a spare moment as his body had floated into the atmosphere of space itself. Half of his entire left side was gone from existence with just flesh leaving out of his body. The arms he once had were gone from existence. The master swordsman was bested by a one eyed arcosian.. was this hell for Blizzard... was this truly it.... As he floated through space he closed his right eye and had passed from the universe. Entering the Afterlife wasn't all that bad, he expected to go to hell and was granted it without uttering a single word. Arriving in Hell he had heard about the Herald trials and for one to escape the Afterlife and swearing to be an agent of destruction...
Darkness had surrounded him, a mysterious figure that looked to be part machine? no.... he had a bluish glow emanating from his uniform. He stood like an official and he looked at the arcosian with no care in the world. Whether he succeeded or not didn't bother the figure, to try and do only mattered.
"You are here to prove yourself?"
"My entire life I have been doing that."
"Then you will do these task."
"I will try my best."
"There is no try. You do."
About that time, a body of water would appear, logs would appear and being 6ft apart from one another and looking like there would be no end to them from a distance.
"Reach the end."
"This must be a joke... Look I thought this was serious. Can't believe you have wasted my time with such things."
"If it is that easy, do it."
The figure faded and Blizzard walking away, only to turn back to look at the task at end. It was easy.. how hard could it be... He went for it, jumping log by log, going the distance. Every hop was easier than the last until it wasn't. The gravity began to grow which began to drain him. Then the heat started to rise which made it worst. Every single time he fell into the water, he got up from it and continued.
"THIS IS NOTHING, I HAVE BEEN THROUGH WORST!!!!!!"
Seven days had passed, he had made it across and laying on the ground with every bone on his body completely stiff, he felt exhausted for the first time. The figure appeared again and with the same facial expression, being indifferent about it all.
"You have earned the right to start the trials now."
"ARE YOU KIDDING ME, WHAT DO YOU MEAN START!?!"
The figure vanished and now another figure took his place however this figure was completely and they wore a robe with a hood over their head. It was an arcosian and the arcosian now turned to look at him.
"Its been a while huh son?"
Blizzard froze in his tracks, he hadn't seen his father in years.
His father began to walk and Blizzard joined right beside him.
" Tell me, do you think you have accomplish your goals?"
"As a major in the military and being a hero of the past, no I don't I did."
"What would you change?"
"Having more time."
What seemed to be like a normal conversation between the two had quickly changed, the figure had changed once again and this time it wasn't his father but one of his former partners that he had betrayed long ago. A green fish with a spike massive jaw with an underbite showing, he stepped away from Blizzard and pulling out his sword.
"I hope you are ready."
"Why are you here Lt Bass?"
Bass didnt speak and immediately rushed at Blizzard, as Blizzard quickly caught the sword with his primary left hand and then with his second left hand he would grab Bass by his neck and hurl him away from him while also grabbing the sword from him as well. Bass falling to the ground and getting up from the simple toss.
"You died on Planet Arcose 70 years ago. I was a Sergeant back then and trying to raise the ranks. The best way I thought I could achieve the rank of Lt was to kill you for it.
Bass had vanished from his spot and faded into the darkness. Blizzard's eyes grew to a slight squint. The next figure that had approach was a grunt by the name of Rocks. Blizzard had remembered him as the grunt that he had left behind during the great battle that made him a hero.
"I left you behind so I could survive..."
Even though arcosians tend to show no emotion, Blizzard started to think about the life he had lived. As he continued to walk down the only path that was shown in front of him. He started to look around to see all of the dead comrades and enemies that he had witness in his life time. As he finally came to a complete stop, he was now looking over a hill and down that hill was a house.
A being had emerged from that house and it was a much younger version of himself as a child as he was walking with his father. Almost like watching a movie, he could hear their voices perfectly even from that high of a vantage point.
"You are starting the academy soon. So what must you do in order to past?"
"Stab the others in the back when I see the chance to do so."
"And what is the most important lesson that I have taught you?"
Blizzard whispering to himself and matching the voice of his younger self.
"Survive by all cost..."
Blizzard closed his eyes and the scenery had changed again. It was like this for weeks...months...... Blizzard was battling his entire life before him. Recalling events that he had once forgotten long ago. What seemed like a repeated endless cycle, finally stopped. A new challenge emerged in front of him, the same exact man he had met to even start this journey.
"I will grant you freedom from this hell Blizzard, you just have to accept it."
After thinking for a few seconds, he looked at the man.
"Going back there, I just don't see the point. I have no military to go back to. I'm just another page in the history books."
"There are those who write history and there are those that get written into it. Do you want to be the pen or the paper?"
A massive beam of light had covered his entire body and for the first time in months... a smile on his face. One moment he stood in utter darkness, the next, he could feel the cold air all around his body, the sign of breath once again. Crawling out of the snow and staring at the sky, Blizzard was back and with an entirely different new look. A few days had passed and Blizzard was now in a hovering chair with a giant oxygen barrel next to him. Even though he could survive without the use of the oxygen barrel that was next to him for a few hours, he still needed to rely on it. He wasn't a major this time around, he was a part of no army, he was simply a man in the galaxy.
Now walking through the snow, the major of the Arcosian Empire who tried to become an empire of the arcosian forces was now just a shadow of his former. He now arrived at a nearby town and sitting in one of the coffee shops. He would order himself one of those famous coffees and taking a sip. Even though he was now mostly machine, he could still enjoy a beverage of coffee. He wondered if his day would get any better.
