Bleary eyes opened to the sight of darkness, their owner finding themselves confined in a cocoon of some thick and heavy material. Feeling disorientated and suffocated by their bindings, they began to thrash violently against their surroundings until eventually their arms tore enough of a hole for their head to break free and take in deep gulps of air.
…This was his bed wasn't it.
Tarine sunk back into his covers with an impassive expression as the unwarranted feeling of panic faded into irritation that he'd been awoken at god knows what time of night. Feeling that the desire to slip back into unconsciousness was absent no matter how many times he rolled over, the redhead let out a groan and tried to pry himself away from the sweet embrace of his sheets so he could at least grab himself something to drink while he prepared to take on this sudden increase of hours in the upcoming day.
Putting a pyjama-clad foot gingerly on the ground, he winced at the creaking of the floorboards seemingly amplified by the late hour and unnatural silence into reverberating through the entire building. Fuzzy memories of his parents storming in to demand how he could possibly still be playing Spyral: Age of the Serpent at this hour came to the surface. Instinctively he tensed up, trying to pick out the noise of someone stirring or an energy signature closing in on his location- but all this achieved was making him aware that there was a notable lack of people in his vicinity.
That wasn't good... Tarine learned to tune out the buzzing undercurrent of the thousands of lower-end signatures that he had to deal with on a daily basis as a consequence of living in a city, but strangely the absence added a layer of uncanniness to his surroundings. Suddenly the silence of the house was oppressive, the darkness in the room now seeming to stretch out into vast empty space.
Bah, he didn't need to start freaking himself out over nothing! He must've just been tired or they all stayed out late for some event he forgot about! Trying to shake that uncomfortable feeling settling in his gut, his eyes jerked up to where he thought the door should be. Stumbling around in the dark and nearly tripping over a couple of things his organised self had definitely meant to leave out didn't make for the most pleasant journey but his hands eventually found their prize. Being nothing to dwell on, he quickly pushed through into an equally black hallway while feeling around for the lights. Again he found his goal with little issue and preparing for the sudden assault on his eyes he squinted before trying the switch.

Nothing. As if trying again would magically produce results, he flicked it again several times in quick succession before letting out an exasperated groan.
"Why...?"
Crap, guess the bulb was blown or the power went out and it was now his job to fix it. While internally grumbling at his misfortune, it finally occurred to him that he had his own light built in, a pulse of ki through his fingers created a mote of light illuminating a few feet in front of him.
Navigating this place was second nature by now, so the lone redhead moved on autopilot until an unpleasant squelch and wetness creeping into the foot of his pyjamas knocked him out of his trance. Immediately recoiling his foot with a vocalisation of disgust, he moved his attention to the offending patch of flooring to see an oddly damp and discoloured spot, softened and saturated with some unknown liquid. Tarine stepped back, repulsed by the sight and mind running through the possibilities of what he'd just stepped in. Part of him prayed it was only hetap though the unpleasant sensation now plaguing him made him desire to get out of these clothes as soon as possible.
A detour to the bathroom was necessary. While awkwardly tiptoeing along to avoid coming into contact with the dampness in the one foot of his onesie as much as possible, he could have sworn he saw more off-coloured stains spreading along the floors and the wall but his desperate mission, perhaps foolishly, pushed those thoughts to the side.
With the pile of unpleasant oddities climbing up, it was hard for Tarine to ignore this was becoming a very abnormal day, which made the sight of the cleanly tiled room all the more relieving. The dark colour of something dripping into the sink caught his eye, temporarily taking his attention from his other task. Black with a reddish tint, his mind briefly wandered somewhere grim, but not keen to dwell on it he quickly turned the faucet on high in an attempt to wash the substance away.
A dark current of "water" rushed out, warping the metal with its ferocity as it rapidly overflowed its containment and began to spread through the room. Overcome with shock he jumped back before attempting to backpedal out of the room and the oncoming tide as anything it touched started to break apart and fall into the slurry racing towards him.
Having faced nothing like this before, the only thought on the tuffle's mind was to flee. Out into the hall he ran and while throwing himself in the direction most appropriate. Not willing to waste time looking back, he prayed he was fast enough to escape the flood, Though instead of finding an exit, the geometries began to distort in a way that created a seemingly endless series of twists and turns that hindered his progress. While the noise behind him grew louder, his panic grew. Adrenaline pushed him as far as it could but as his fate got closer the very ground seemed to buckle under him, chunks of the walls peeling off as he tried to grab hold of anything for support.
With one last breath he was pulled under. Despite his attempts to fight against the current his movements felt sluggish and uncoordinated as an overwhelming dizziness took hold and he sunk into the depths...
Plunged into darkness with the world spinning, it was hard to say how far he sank other than it was much further than what should have been possible. Though just as his lungs threatened to burst under the strain a softly pulsating light illuminated the unnatural ocean with a red glow. An apparent surface to this prison revealed, barely able to cope with the burning of his insides for much longer, Tarine surged with the last dregs of his strength in order to reach for it.
Breaching the surface was a godsend, the liquid below seemed to solidify immediately, leaving a surface for the tuffle to crawl onto as he lay completely drenched and taking in shaky gasps of oxygen. Spending enough time to slow his heart and convince himself death wasn't an immediate certainty, Tarine pushed himself up to his knees and began to take in this incomprehensibly alien landscape he'd found himself in.
Hanging below a pale red moon and a permanently darkened sky is a vast reflective plain constantly shimmering with the thin layer of liquid that never leaves its surface, in the distance stand pillars and other indistinct structures that dot the landscape in a seemingly irregular fashion. Staring at the sky for too long appears to make it pulse in a heart-like fashion.
