To many, the Kaiju Jungle was a terrifying land of monsters, carnivorous plants, tall mountains, dense jungle, disease, and a thousand other dangers. A place that was better left untouched and avoided. Tebooleh, however, found it a refreshing change of pace from his time spent aboard a hastily-put-together raft surrounded by sea-water with no food or shelter from the sun. The shade of the trees, the rain, it was a blessing to him. And he found the jungle easier to navigate than the jungles of his homeworld, which sprang up during the short wet season only to die and leave scrubland and desert behind.
Mostly, this was because the trees in the Kaiju Jungle were old, old enough to block out the sun on the forest floor and stifle the undergrowth. There were still plenty of plants beneath the canopy... they were just more rare in the old-growth portions of the jungle. And there were plenty of "game trails" left by gigantic monsters and dinosaurs, each the size of roads and highways, that allowed Tebooleh to walk without much effort. So long as he could climb over the thick roots of the trees.
At some point, Tebooleh heard the sound of running water. He turned, and followed the noise. There was another game trail, though there were spots of undergrowth returning in the wake of some monster's footsteps. Thus, Tebooleh did not actually SEE the river until he was practically on top of it, having to shove some ferns that a beast had simply walked over and left untouched out of his way. There it was. Cool, crystal... glittering.
Tebooleh was not thirsty, he had been subsisting on the water that collected in the great leaves of the trees above him after the near-daily rainfalls. But, there was never enough clean water for him to engage in an all-important ritual...
But first, he had to test the water's quality. A few water-testing strips remained in the pocket of Tebooleh's thawb, which constituted a major portion of his remaining belongings. Tebooleh dipped the tip of one in the water, and pocketed the rest. After holding the strip in for a moment, he lifted it up and stared, watching the colors of the little bit of special paper change. After studying the colors, he nodded. The strip showed that the water was pure, free of contaminants like industrial pollution or human waste.
This made it perfect for a bath.
Tebooleh stripped out of his thawb, his keffiyeh, and his trousers. He stepped from his sandals, and then removed his undergarments. Before he stepped into the water, he reached into a pocket and pulled forth the remains of some soap that he had made from fat and ash at a campfire. It was enough. He entered into the water, closed his eyes, and immersed himself... allowing himself to feel the flow of the elements around him. The stream was about waist-deep, and it was relatively thin with a gentle flow. It was also cool and refreshing, in a wondrous contrast with the hot sun beating down over the river and the gap it made in the treeline.
As he bathed, Tebooleh sang aloud joyous thanks and prayers to the many pieces of the universe. He sang thanks to the First Flame, thanks to the river, thanks to the Earth for providing him his needs so readily after he faced the sea. And he sang it all in a tongue that nobody had spoken on Earth for centuries. And as he sang, he lathered his body with his soap, and washed in the water, and let his hair become undone from the tight bun he kept it in beneath his keffiyeh... This, too, would be washed. And then combed.
