There were certainly better ways to go about testing new equipment. Safer, more humane ways than having test subjects take whatever the Tuffle had prepared. He tried convincing himself he wouldn’t go too far, such as swearing not to kill anything, not even damaging them to the point of handicapping them. For sure, some Saiyans would gladly murder Saibamen for sport alone, but even when putting himself above ravenous killers, he didn’t feel good about it.
The scientist didn’t have that edge to go beyond his morals for the sake of advancement. He certainly took pride in that very fact, but at the same time, it wasn’t getting him anywhere. He wanted to offer his people a solution, a good one too, but stuck behind mountains of permissions and paperworks, he wouldn’t be able to get clearance to try anything. Not without years of convincing panels after panels of experts -the idea of having another destron episode was unthinkable-. That’s why he needed to take matters into his own hands, to slip beneath the watchful eye of the law and other rigorous protocols.
And now that he was in front of it, he was second-guessing himself once again. The warrior spirit eluded him, just like it eluded him when he tried to go into Saiyan territory on his own. Confronted with thugs and knowing he could take their lives sent him into a panic episode, only saved by a duo of good samaritans.
Thankfully, no one was around. His identity was camouflaged under that makeshift suit he had built for himself, but his size would not fool anyone. Still, taking advantage of the fact that he was alone, he would be able to go back in peace, feeling a little more discouraged at himself for not having the resolve required to push forward his experiments, but not totally dissatisfied.
