CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
APPEARANCE: Gira is a short, unassuming girl. Standing at 5’2”, she’s used to being the shortest person in the room. She has the trademark charcoal black eyes of the Saiyan race, framed by thick glasses, and a head of short black hair that goes down to her shoulders. She is the Captain of her school’s boxing team, so as a result, Gira has been a lot more conscious of her physical fitness. She has managed to build lean muscle through a vigorous training regimen. Gira is not what one would call a fashionista. She tends to go around in jeans or sweatpants and a shirt with one of her favorite bands, movies, or video games on it.
BACKGROUND:
While Gira grew up on Earth in the care of an Earthling that she would come to call “mom,” her parents originally came from the Saiyan homeworld of Planet Plant. They were elite Saiyans who ran afoul of the monarchy less than a year before Gira’s birth. They fled their rivals’ wrath by stealing away in a couple of space pods, where they would try and begin a new life with their newborn daughter, who they named Kayanne. To avoid any accidents with the locals, they removed their daughter’s tail from birth. The three of them would proceed to live a happy domestic life… for a very short time. They would soon be found by a rival troupe of five elite Saiyans, who took the opportunity to take out their old enemy. Gira’s mother managed to hide Gira in a detached storage building on their property while her father held off the invaders. Once Gira was safely tucked inside a storage crate, Gira’s mother ran outside to help her partner, but she was too late. He fell in battle with a fatal blow through the heart right as she stepped through the door. In anger and grief, Gira’s mother charged to avenge her husband, but she was summarily killed as the entire troupe ambushed her with a barrage of ki.
Before departing, the Saiyans dropped the bodies of their fallen foes in the main house and blew it up with a single ki blast. Thankfully, however, the detached storage building was left untouched. Later that same day, a young red-haired woman was exploring the Gizard Wasteland, cataloging various species of flora in the area for her next book. This was Kara Norms, a botanist and author. While sketching the form of a local type of grass, she spotted black smoke on the horizon. Following it to the recently devastated homestead, she heard the sound of a baby crying. Following it to a wooden storage building, she headed inside and found a newborn Gira laying inside of a crate. She pitied the child. It was readily apparent that something terrible happened here, and that whoever this baby’s parents were, they were most certainly dead. So she took her home and raised her as her own daughter. It was apparent very quickly that Gira was no human child. She was adept at climbing on things from the very day she was brought home, indicating an incredible level of strength for a girl her age.
What would confirm her otherworldly nature, however, would be when she was 2 years old and climbed across a hot stove while her mother wasn’t watching her. Quickly removing her child from the stove, Kara was shocked to see that Gira didn’t have a mark on her. These abilities would compound until the Saiyan reached the age of 6, when she had enough of a handle on her ki to be able to fly. As a Saiyan of elite blood, this came naturally to her. Flying out her window and across the street, she and her childhood friend Kaci went on a flight around the city. When they returned home, however, Gira’s mother was furious, telling her how dangerous her stunt was, and forbidding her from flying or displaying her growing strength ever again. So that would be how Gira would live; as a normal girl. As the young Saiyan grew into her teenage years, however, she began to feel a certain restlessness that nothing could soothe. Little did she know, she was feeling the Saiyan craving for battle. Into her high school years, Gira signed up for boxing. Having spent her whole life learning to control her power, she could pretend to merely be a talented athlete.
Of course, she excelled in this sport, becoming her school’s boxing team Captain, replacing the old one who had graduated the year prior. With all the things going right in her life, however, she saw that the same wasn’t necessarily true of those around her in West City. Robberies, car jackings, assaults… Gira wished she could do something about it. The difficult thing, however, was knowing that she could do something about it, but being forced not to. Heroes, the people the law calls “vigilantes,” needed special government permission to save people. Gira always thought that a hero’s obligation was to save those in trouble. How can they do that when their own government is actively working against them? That was when the young Saiyan had a lightbulb moment. She was never registered as a ki user. When the Accords were passed, her mother actively decided to avoid having to do that to keep up the ruse that Gira was a normal human. It was simpler that way. But it made Gira’s plan much easier. Since she was practically invisible in the system, she could be a hero and save people without repercussions… so long as she didn’t get caught.
That would be where Kaci would come in. She had shown an avid interest in technology in her own teenage years, especially capsule technology. With her brains and Gira’s designs, they would create for her a suit to hide her identity. With her appearance now secret, all that was left was to come up with a name; a Saiyan girl who fights crime and upholds justice. A Great beacon of hope to inspire the people of West City to stand up against crime and brutality. She shall be known as, “The Great Saiyagirl.”
