“I have to find him… I just have to… they’ll kill me if I don’t… probably turn me into one of those things… I have to find him… have to…”
Dr. Bee shook as he walked through the frigid land of ice, his eyes glued to the monitor of his device that beeped every so often.
It was night, freezing cold and very dark. The moon lit the area pretty well as it was far from any town or civilized congregation. Worry was in the air, a thick cut of it that hung over Dr. Bee like a cloud. There wasn’t much else to do, he had been at this for weeks now and only recently did he receive a slight signal.
“How did he even get all the way up here… we’re so far away…”
Bee tripped over some frozen rocks but picked up his device and continued.
“Stupid… stupid… what if you broke it! Huh?! What then?! I gotta find him so I can get outta here!”
Bee stopped and cried out loud, the device fell to the ground once more into a pile of snow as he threw his arms to his side.
Dr. Bee had pretty much given up, his toes were frozen, so was his nose, and the yellow arctic coat he wore was not as insulated as advertised, he would definitely be returning and getting his coupon back. Dr. Bee fell to his knees and crawled towards the device which looked to be broken. He pushed himself forward with his big ice mitts and when he held the device once more he could see his fate was sealed.
The screen was cracked, the antennae far from gone and all six of the batteries also had fallen out and gone missing. As he reached into his pocket to pull out the reserve batteries he saw his pocket had a giant hole in it. He looked back towards the path he came and saw the batteries along with his snacks sitting on the icy ground. He walked over to them and just as he approached the ice started to crack.
The ice he and the batteries and snacks rested upon started to shift, he was tossed to the ground and everything else fell into the depths of the icy earth below. Then the rumble began, then the shaking of the earth itself, then the continuous cracking of the icy plane.
“Wha.. what is this?! This is all my fault… I should have minded my business… I should’ve…”
Dr. Bee shoved his face into his hands with guilt and desperation.
Ant burst through the ice face first and landed his beak against the crushed bits as he stuck just partially out of the frozen ground. He could sense Dr. Bee, he knew him well. Bee had saved him, his energy was friendly and so Ant opened its jaws and from it one of his tongues stretched out to approach. As Dr. Bee opened his eyes and moved them from behind his giant mitts, he saw the snake-like appendage rubbing up against his snow boots. His first response was to soil himself but he was too dehydrated, instead he passed out. As he fell to the ground his signal flare was triggered and shot out and up into the sky sending a huge blast that would indicate help was needed.
