BACKGROUND:‘I don’t want to die.’ Gemus wept mournfully to his mother, as though any action she might take could save them from the planet being torn apart. As though any word she may have spoken might have soothed him. As if, her love could protect him from the reality they had found themselves.
Sadala was falling apart, the planet had suffered in recent years, it had reached the end of its life cycle and was doomed to fall apart, taking any who hadn’t left in time. But Gemus’s mother had secured a spot on one of the last ships that would take them off the planet.
It was a long journey as the ark ship tried to find suitable locations to settle. Each one had been tried even for a short while before some fatal flaw was discovered, the rain was acidic, the vegetables mutated to attack etc. Over and over each possible home was denied to the Saiyans before they found Plant. It was occupied but that was no real problem for the Kingdom to reform, the war called on all Saiyans of age to fight. His mother took a role on the ship whilst he was dragged to the frontlines, he had of course trained as is only right for a young Saiyan.
He took to the battlefield well, clearing the area for what would become the new Vegeta Region, it wasn’t long until he was on a mission with the King himself, the King of Old, some called him, for he was the last remnants of the line that ruled Sadala. The King was a formidable warrior, if not reckless, he often charged ahead of safety to show his bravery, and on one fateful occasion, he had gone too far into battle against the mechanised Tuffles, surrounded and almost impossible to reach, Gemus broke his way through the lines just in time to stop a blade that intended to strike at the King’s back, Gemus’ armour stopped the majority of the blow just above his heart, where he was punctured deeply, but he survived.
Brought before the King whilst barely recovered from the ordeal he knelt before him as he was granted the title of Royal guard and granted the title and family name of Ironheart, forsaking his mother’s family of low birth for this new title. Not that he had much choice or the wherewithal to understand the situation in its entirety. He spent the remaining years of the war attending to the King, growing close to him and learning a great deal from him. He was a good King, but brash and brutally honest, which often led to him needing to defend his throne. Gemus of course could not intercede, but a few occasions occurred where fools would try to interfere or worse finish off the King post duel.
As the invasion pushed more towards the Tuffle heartlands they became more fevered in their defense, more determined and much more dangerous. Eventually resulting in the Destron attacks across the planet that called the war to a halt. For the safety of both races. It was in one of these attacks Gemus lost his now-estranged mother, she had been demoted to the role of a medic, an insult to her combat prowess but she took to it well. She had ignored the warnings of the bombs incoming and had strived to save the Saiyans in the drop zones. She never made it back after the explosions were seen exploding in the ruined city.
Gemus took this time to retire, it was not his place to fight chemicals or be a peacetime warrior, wilting away with age and disuse. He found a suitable match amongst the nobility and married her, together they raised their children. Sparge and Kohl, Sparge was from her previous marriage to a fine warrior that perished in the Destron strikes.
Sparge is a fine young man that took to Gemus’ side and tried to learn everything he could from his Step-Father, however, he perhaps was too patient, too hesitant, very trapped in his own ideals and sometimes needed reminded that rules and regulations often come second in a battle, even a sanctioned one. It often appeared that he would be trying to remember moves from a textbook than trusting his memory or instinct. Gemus knew he could get him to trust in these in time, but for now, teaching him more would garner the most strength.
Kohl on the other hand they adopted together, he was somewhat of a prodigy, mastering techniques quickly and being able to manipulate significant amounts of Ki from a young age led him to be bullheaded, arrogant and aggressive. Looking to solve as many problems with violence as create them. He often checked out of his new Father’s lessons unless they were about combat, fighting or his time during the war. He respected Gemus’ leadership and wisdom and he in turn was respected for his honesty and fire.
Alas, their mother passed away recently from natural causes and Gemus left searching for purpose, with two powerful sons has decided they shall approach King Taori and request to be his new Royal Guard. If not to pass the time more productively, to give his children purpose before he too passes.
