CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
APPEARANCE: A slender, emaciated figure with greyish-green skin that seems almost fused directly to the bone underneath. Retemed looks as if a morsel of food has never graced their lips. On some parts of their body their appear to be opened wounds, similar to those caused by malnutrition. The clothes he wears are ripped and torn, seemingly put together from old sacks or whatever the Shinjin could scrounge together even despite his abilities to materialise objects.
Over his eyes he wears a blindfold and in his hand he clasps a long staff upon which sits a scale that seems to hang in the balance to a supernatural degree, never shifting one way or the other unless Retemed himself wills it.
His left foot is a metal prosthetic. Upon his back are large mothlike wings.
BACKGROUND:
Retemed was a Shinjin born of the the same tree eons ago. One of the four tasked to govern the souls of those passed. One of the four who grew obsessed with the lives of the mortal races beneath them. Retemed's brothers grew a love for different aspects of the mortal cycle of existence. Violence, Gain, Death. All things that put them at odds with their fellow Shinjin. Retemed of course grew similarly opposed to the other Shinjin, but his focus dwelled more on the suffering of Mortals. Those who lacked what they needed just to survive opposed against those who selfishly gathered all they wished. Those who perished from Famine or those who Feasted and grew strong. How far a Mortal would go just to survive. Retemed began to believe the truest way to judge a mortal's worthiness for the gift of existence was to take everything for them, and see if they thrived or perished.
This keen interest soon grew to obsession as it had for his brothers. He had no interest in what happened once a Mortal ceased to exist. Nor did he care what happened when they took all they coveted. Their petty squabblings and conflicts similarly held no interest for me. His interest was on the passion of a mortal, the will to survive that dwelled in every individual even if they denied it. The desperate struggle to crawl back from rock bottom once everything was taken from them. Their desperate flailing. It was of great entertainment to the Shinjin.
Despite his general grim yet calm demeanour. Retemed despises boredom, and as different mortal civilisations began to advance and grow beyond the need to worry about basic necessities. He worried that his entertainment would soon diminish as it seemed all life was destined to one day solve the issues of basic needs and thrive. This prospect shook Retemed to his core, and as such he refused to remain merely an observer.
Taking the scales of fate into his own hands he set about manipulating the environments of mortals. One society was prospering from fertile grounds? A plague of locusts would devour their crops. Another figured out perfect farming techniques? A wildfire would rage and make sure nothing grew again. Early hunters figured out a perfect balance of nature and how to cultivate it. He would poison their minds and drive them to hunt beyond their needs until there was nothing else left.
He soon took on the moniker "The Black Judge" as he saw himself worthy of deciding who would thrive and who would suffer at his leisure. Yet soon his role as this grim arbiter of fate was to end. Like his brothers, Shinjin society took umbrance with their meddlings in mortal society and sought to imprison them.
Fearing destruction or worse, a life of eternal boredom. Retemed fled to the deepest, darkest pits of Hell, hiding away in the Bramble Woods in the hopes of escaping detection. It helped him temporarily, and he was the last of his brothers to be captured. Yet captured he was eventually. Moments before his imprisonment he cast his scales into the abyss, cascading them out into deep space. In this action he spoke a prophecy, that when the black sand outweighed the white, the universe would free him from his prison.
Millenia later, through various galactic turmoil. War, Conquest and endless death. All that was left was what came after. Famine, Drought...Suffering. And in a forgotten planet deep within the cosmos. Not so long ago now. The last grain of black sand joined the scales and tipped them. His prophecy had come true. The hope that he had poured all his remaining power into. And soon like his brothers he had broken free to walk the galaxy once again. The last of the Horsemen to be re-awakened.
Weak and as far as he knows, alone. He dwells within the Brambles of Hell, waiting to take up his mantle once again.
