Megis seemed ready to take the money but Alva called out asking if he was worked with Derry. Which got Megis make it clear he was not going to take a bribe. “I ain’t trying to bribe you buddy. If I wanted to Bribe you i’d give you a larger sack of cash. And to answer your question, no I ain’t working with Derry. I happen to agree with a lot of policies. I’ve already told you some of my story. I came from nothing on Plant. And when I came to Earth things were so much better. More peaceful, people actually worked together. And alot of that was built before Derry but I think alot of his decision are going to help keep things good. That what I want. If the planet stays strong and healthy, then why not Megis? I was unsure at first i’ll admit but he got some good ideas. Idk if there better then Derry, but more competition the better.”
He had his own reasons for doing this. No, he didn’t think Megis had a good chance of winning. But if Megis did win then hopefully he’d not see Saiba-Ban as a foe. He liked to keep his own business moving. But there was a larger reason. It was his back pocket assurance. He had his own theroies that Derry was not the best for Earth. With the whole moon thing. And after what happened with Kamae? He was not sure he trusted all that. And he also knew that if he wanted to escape Derry grasp and stay on Earth? Derry couldn’t be president. So he was keeping all his cards open. “But hey, if you don’t trust me that fine.” he’d offer to take the money back. The gesture was what was important anyway. If he didn’t want the money, he could always hand it back.

Alva's own raised suspicions of the Saibaman prompted Megis to become suspicious as well, forcing a response out of the Saibaman. Alva sat with her arms crossed and her cash still on her lap as she listened to the well-dressed alien speak, and though he denied being a direct associate of Derry's, Alva couldn't say she was completely convinced. Besides, some of the stuff he was saying didn't add up.
"So, you're saying stuff was actually better when you came here first, before Derry became the planet's big cheese?" Alva asked him, stifling a snort. It certainly seemed to be an underlying implication of Saiba-Ban's little speech. "Well, if that's true, all the more reason to support the big pink guy, here!" Alva jabbed her thumb in the Majin's direction and forced as genuine a grin as she could muster. If she was going to be paid this kind of money to support his campaign all the time, she was going to upsell this big pink lug at every opportunity she could. Alva was absolutely not above selling herself out for large amounts of money.
But still, Megis was going to need money to get his campaign off the ground - and to keep paying Alva - so when Saiba-Ban offered to take the donation back if Megis was uncomfortable with it, she felt she ought to intervene in the interest of both herself and Megis. "Either way, if you say you're not necessarily a huge proponent of Derry's, then I think there's no harm in Megis taking a little campaign donation from you, right, Mr. Future President?" Alva looked up at Megis expectantly, with the idle hope that the Majin would end up deciding to accept this generous donation after all.

Mister Steel: Chomei's estate is vast, and marriage into the family can only benefit Marimba with access to cattle, pasture land, and much grain to feed his armies.
