AGE: 24
GENDER: Female (She/Her)

[DARK DEPARTURE] - CORE
Once per month, Orla may travel instantaneously from one planet to another with up to 5 others. This also provides a free 50% evasive defense technique, useable once per thread, and it cannot have its power boosted in any way. Orla can also post freely in the Otherworld boards even if she is not dead.
[OTHERWORLD TRAINING] - OPTIONAL
Orla may use multiple Offensive techniques in a single post, to a maximum of three. This is usable once per thread, and will only work with Standard Techniques.
GENERAL TRAITS:
[VAMPIRIC]
Once per thread, Orla may designate a Standard Attack as ‘Vampiric.’ If this attack deals any damage, she may recover 1 KP from its use. If it was free or she recovers the KP in another manner, this has no effect.
[IMPOSSIBLE RECOVERY]
If Orla is defeated by taking Critical Damage in an Action Thread, she can choose to be dealt a Wound and continue the fight with whatever HP she has remaining. If defeated again, she will be dealt an additional Wound. In a non-AT thread, this allows her to resist Critical Damage once, and she does not sustain a wound.

BACKGROUND:
Our tale begins on a night of terror, a night of portents most macabre, a night of devils and destiny. Werewolves screamed in the Bramble Woods, the dead moaned and turned in their shallow graves, and over all the stygian gloom presided the monstrosity of stone and mortar and magic that was Castle Eisenwald, limned in a deathly pall by the ghoulish halflight of a full moon. Crimson rain beat upon the bat-haunted rooftops and turrets like fingers drumming on a coffin lid. Eerie figures scuttled worriedly across courtyards grown wild with thorns and carrion flowers. Hushed whispers echoed down wynds and hallways where the wretched and the damned had kept tryst for eons untold. Suddenly every voice fell silent, as if all the world of darkness were holding its breath expectantly.Then a cry rent the night, a thin, keening shriek that climbed higher and higher until it seemed Hell itself trembled to hear it. All the assembled creatures of the night fled from that cry, spilling from the castle's gate on crooked foot and crooked wing to seek refuge in the darkest, coldest corners of the underworld. For on that night a new heir was born to the unholy dynasty of von Eisenwald, an heir who would someday take up the ancestral oath of the Necroknights, striding forth from the eternal dusk with the black sword Erebos in hand to tread the obsidian thrones of Hell's lords under her booted feet...
Imagine a Gregorian choir chanting ominously in the background as you read these words, perhaps accompanied by a slightly overwrought chord progression on a church organ. A lone wolf may even howl off in the distance. Only once, of course, maybe twice at a push. Any more than that would be gauche, even for grand guignol.Imagine also the drop of a title card, the letters splashing across the screen in technicolor red - Orla the Vampire, possibly. Perhaps Vampire is spelled with a 'y', if you're feeling adventurous. A satisfyingly clichéd soundbite of scraping metal accompanies the appearance of a crimson sword as it slides across the screen, foregrounding the title. Blade and title then fade into black and the outline of a figure slowly comes into view, crimson eyes glinting predatorily in a shadowed face...
But ah, hark! How the record scratches!
In point of fact and in perfect honesty, Orla's story doesn't start quite like that. But, in our defense, we only muddled up a few of the details. For example, while Orla was born in her ancestral home, it was actually a nice little semi-detached house that her grandfather had bought when real estate prices in Limbo Town were still relatively reasonable. Also, while the moon was technically full at the time, Orla was born precisely at 11:54 AM HST (Hell Standard Time). No werewolves were on duty or being treated at the Duchess Gemory Maternity Ward, and none were harmed during the making of this backstory.Orla did cry, admittedly, as is the way of all infants when they are unceremoniously ushered into the world, though nobody other than her parents and the ogre nurses paid much heed at the time. Her high-pitched wailing, while distressing, could hardly be called an omen, though one might argue it was a presentiment of the inevitable moment when she would realise she had been burdened with the surname 'Varney'.
Also, it did rain blood that morning. But that was largely due to a malfunction in the Blood Fountain, which happened about half an hour later and only lasted five minutes.
Genevieve and Wilhelmina Varney were as conventional and mild-mannered a couple as you might wish to meet, barring the fact they were both vampires. They both had stable jobs in the Otherworld's administration system, enjoyed movie nights and annual trips to a chalet in the Ashen Mountains, and were generally set to provide a happy, loving, colourful home for their little bundle of joy. As such, they were rather non-plussed when Orla asked to have her room painted black when she was six.As she grew into adolescence, Orla became even more prone to flights of macabre fancy. She consumed literature and media that seemed to exclusively feature tortured anti-heroes wandering darkened worlds to fight terrible monsters - but none more terrible, as Orla was prone to dramatically exclaim, than the monsters within themselves. Genevieve and Wilhelmina would nod along thoughtfully, then ask Orla if she wanted pumpkin spice in her ethically sourced blood smoothie.
Orla's mothers encouraged her interests and creativity while gently trying to instill some practical sense in her, with questionable success. They graciously didn't make an issue of it when Orla started dressing like an assassin in a fantasy roleplaying game and introducing herself as 'Orla von Eisenwald', but when Orla proudly announced her plans of becoming a wandering paladin of darkness during a meeting with her high school's career advisor, Genevieve and Wilhelmina had to put their collective foot down. They firmly insisted that their daughter get a college degree before she went gallivanting off into the underworld, just in case the whole 'dark avenger, hunter of evil' deal didn't work out. A thoroughly disgruntled Orla enrolled at King Yemma Community College, emerging four years later with a hard-earned degree in accountancy and an even sharper thirst for adventure.
Two years after graduation, Orla is still bravely making a go of it. Though bounty hunting for the Ogre authorities isn't a particularly lucrative occupation, she's managed to carve out a life that, if not glamorous, is at least aesthetically pleasing to her. She gets to fight ghosts and wear black, and that's really all she ever asked for. Whenever the local newspaper prints a couple of lines about Orla capturing a rogue demon or evil soul, her mothers add the clipping to their ever-growing scrapbook and gush over the phone at her for hours.
She's actually succeeded in finding a crumbling castle in the Bramble Woods and made herself a lair there. One of these nights she's even going to get the plumbing fixed.

Power: 60%
KP Cost: 2 KP
Variants: Evasive
Standard Medium Defense || Casket Guard [Dojo Coupon Slot]
Orla gathers dark ki around herself, coalescing it into a coffin-shaped barrier. Should Casket Guard break, any bleed-through damage is reduced by 30% provided Orla's PL is within 60% of the attack's remaining PL.
Power: 50%
KP Cost: 4 KP
Variants: Shield
Utility Technique || Echolocation
Using her vampiric senses, Orla is able to 'hear' ki. She perceives ki signatures as pulsing heartbeats, and ki attacks as the sound of blood rushing through a vein. The higher a ki signature is, the louder it 'sounds' to Orla. She can sense, measure, and differentiate the ki signatures of all living beings without the Anti-Sense trait. Higher ki signatures are easier to sense and can be sensed at greater distances than lower ones. This technique is passive and does not use KP.
Utility Technique || Necrotic Aura
As an undead creature of the night, Orla has no heartbeat or any other vital sign. If she so chooses, she can even reduce her energy signature to non-existence, or as near as makes little difference. Orla is able to dam the flow of her energy, suppressing her Power Level to a minimum of 1 PL. This technique is passive and does not require KP use.
Utility Technique || Vault of Night [10k Slot]
Orla's mastery of darkness allows her to create an array of objects and constructs. She is able to shape her dark ki into her preferred weapon, a black longsword she calls Erebos, or infuse her ki into a physical item to imbue it with Erebos' properties. Orla can also use this ability to alter her clothing, though she is only able to create dark-coloured or gothic-themed garments. Larger or more complicated things will take more energy and focus to create. This technique is passive and does not require KP.
Utility Technique || Wings of Shadow ['Ki for Dummies' Guidebook Slot]
Through skillful manipulation of her ki, Orla is able to fly. The means by which she is able to do so varies based on her current form. However, if her clothing includes a cape, she can infuse it with dark ki to make it function like a set of wings.
