It was a beautiful, late October Saturday in Central City. The sun was shining bright in the sky, with only the occasional grey cloud. And, because the weather was starting to become colder, many were out and about, students, homebodies, and salarymen alike, all taking advantage of what may very well be the last ‘warm’ day of the year.
Hikari was no different, at least in this regard, being that she was a student of Orange Star Academy, out and about and enjoying the weather. In Hikari’s case, she had chosen to do so by heading to Central City’s largest park.
If Hikari was being completely honest with herself, she would have to admit that she was somewhat normal for a teenage girl. However, that wasn’t the same as saying she didn’t stand out within a crowd, something which Hikari certainly did. She was shorter than average, standing at only 59 inches, and was slim too, weighing maybe 100 pounds. Despite the fact that humans could have naturally occurring hair colors anywhere on the rainbow, there were still a few that seemed to occur much more often that others; black, brown of various shades, blonde, and ginger (Hikari refused to call it red). So that made her own naturally cyan colored locks, styled into a pair of long, loose pig tails, uncommon, though not necessarily unusual. Even the magenta streaks that had been dyed in weren’t too unusual. What might have been considered unusual, at least to Hikari’s standards, was the way she seemed to just… glow.
Oh, that wasn’t to say she was actually emitting light. That wasn’t something she could do,at least not without some serious concentration. And even then, all she could do was produce an orb the size of a baseball floating above her hand. It was a neat little trick she had learned as a child, on nights where she had nothing to do other than meditate in an attempt to forget the pressures of life…
Cyan colored locks whipped back and forth as Hikari shook her head, ridding herself of that depressing line of thought. Back to her ‘glow;’ while she didn’t emit light herself, her skin, hair, nails, and even her eyes all seemed to have a bit of a glossy shine to them. It was something which had annoyed her, once upon a time, as it made it difficult to go unnoticed by children looking for their favorite bullying target. But now? Hikari loved it, because what star doesn’t like to shine?
As a student in Orange Star Academy’s Music Program, it went without saying that Hikari possessed a skill for music. However, skill was something which could be taught to anyone. With enough work, anyone could learn a skill. Talent, on the other hand, was something that is inherently part of you. And while many of her fellow music students were indeed skilled, it was Hikari’s not-so-humble opinion that she was one of the few that were truly talented. And she was not shy about letting that opinion be known.
That was likely the reason why, despite having become fairly popular, Hikari found herself spending her Saturday alone. She did have one true friend, but unfortunately for Hikari, said friend was otherwise occupied today.
‘Oh well,’ Hikari had thought after that conversation. ‘Alicia’s grandparents are in town, so I guess that means I’ll just practice my guitar today.’ It was a bit of a let down, seeing as the duo were *supposed* to be working on some edits to their upcoming album, but after years of her early childhood being spent as a lone star in the sky, Hikari was used to finding productive ways to keep herself entertained. So, after reapplying her nail polish (because why wouldn’t she take advantage of their natural sheen to make the cyan polish she put on them pop), and putting together a casual outfit of a white tank top, open black jacket (with gold accents), a hat which matched the inside of her jacket, black skinny jeans (with some strategic tears in them), and black and orange sneakers (‘Huh, I really didn’t think I was wearing that much black…’) Hikari had grabbed her acoustic guitar, hopped into her car and flown to the park.
One internal monologue later, and she was parked near the park, and walking down the sidewalk, guitar case over her shoulder, and ready to find a good spot to play…
