A TASTE OF FREEDOM

The journey to Arcose had not gone nearly as intended. Cato had already nearly crashed her space-pod into one of the most important buildings in the capital, and the journey itself had fried several important systems on the pod, including its atmospheric sensors. Luckily, word of mouth traveled easily on Arcose. Although she had been met with some suspicion as an off-worlder, these were a people well used to gossip. The political machinations and subterfuge that ran rampant through the capital assured that. From that, she was able to glean that the Ice Pit was perhaps one of the most peculiar, and yet tempting, locales on the entire planet.
A maximum security prison housing the most dangerous criminals Arcose had ever known. At least, that was the reputation.
Cato waited until the moon hung high in the sky, but she shielded herself from the enervating waves it generated. She knew she might have need of her untamed transformation before the night was out, but she had no intention of using it if she didn't have to. She left her pod far from her, along with an open transmission signal in the hopes that any military tracking would assume she was inside her pod, listening to the radio or accessing a network. She had no idea how close an eye these Arcosians kept on visitors, but she hadn't come all this way to accidentally provoke a conflict between a planet she had barely begun to call home, and a powerful alien empire.
All the same, she couldn't pass up the chance to hear what secrets these criminals might have had. She knew some had to be Saiyans, they were far too ubiquitous in the galaxy's most dangerous pirate gangs. Saiyans left alone, she knew, had a habit for killing each-other. Saiyans locked in a prison, however--there might just be someone in there old enough to tell her what she wanted to know. It was a long-shot, but Cato had learned long ago that when you're rolling low odds -- an extra roll or two can't hurt. Unless she was killed.
She drew in a deep breath and launched herself into the open cavern that led to the Ice Pit, the cold air freezing at the exposed skin along her legs and arms as she went. She was more than used to extreme temperatures, and a dim aura of purple ki began to spark around her, providing some warmth. But there was an offensive cold about this place that even she found difficult to manage. By the time she saw the first watch-tower before the entry to the prison, she took action.
A bolt of yellow ki shot through the viewport of the tower, knocking the feeble guard that had been assigned to that night's duty clean out. She landed inside, and began fumbling with the controls. It might be safer to kill her way through here, but she had no desire to do more damage than she needed. Besides, the Arcosians would need their fighting force intact to recapture whatever dangerous prisoners escaped as a result of her antics. She searched through dozens of consoles and terminals, until at least finding just the right one -- she slammed down on a bright, green button, and the entrance to the prison began to creak open.
The terminal flared a message across the screen, requesting her identification for an unscheduled entry. She responded by putting her fist through the terminal, and sirens blared into the cold night. Everyone would know something was happening now, but she had the element of surprise. She burst out from beyond the tower and raced into the prison itself, using her raw speed to blow past a series of responding guards. She was headed right for the prison cells, and nothing would stop her.
