Tempest

The konatsian couldn’t help but sigh inwardly over how events before tonight played out. There had been a potential set of leads that might have given a solid lead to the whereabouts of Garance’s new operations, the most promising of course would have led Cam into conflict with another old adversary. Which had led her here tonight. It wasn’t by any means how she envisioned a return home, if she could still muster the words to call it that. Though the efforts of Cynthia and Sage had uncovered traces of a poison which led to and old friend, Doctor Trevelyn; a psychopath known to their group for his past history of experimenting on ki users, turning them into abominations to glean further insight into the manifestations of power.

It was of little surprise the notions discussed between the OW unit and Zuqetta came across as unnerving, if only for how it stirred up old memories surrounding this madman. Was the bot potentially working for the enemy? Was this some new tool created to more effectively gauge and plan against the many players in Dharatan? It wouldn’t have been too farfetched to believe the orb was created by the Doctor, that this Wallace Wonder was just another alias to be used and discarded. Earth? She never heard of the place; it was all sounding a bit suspicious. Though despite how she was beginning to feel over this, Camellia would reserve her judgement until she could be certain.

The rain pelted the awning of the small arlian ethnic restaurant as Cam passed underneath, paying no mind to the customers which eyeballed their little group from beyond the bay windows. A pawn shop, watchmaker’s office, and a boarded-up store would fill out the rest of the path, before the blond would make to pause, glance back to their little makeshift fellowship. ”Over here.” Camellia offered a nod to a darkened alleyway betwixt the buildings, before vanishing into the shadows herself. A turn around the same corner would reveal the konatsian entering a code into the door lock on a rather weathered looking hovervan, the name Sage’s Emporium faded into the paint on the side.

A beep would chime, before Cam would step around to the rear, opening the doors wide. The backend would be revealed filled with a plethora of tech and gadgetry, enough so that even a versed Tuffle might be inclined to a slow, impressed whistle. While it was no lab by any means, there would potentially be enough items presently available from Sage’s reserves to offer a variety of opportunities to someone with an inkling of how to use them.

A portable computer of some variety with an abundance of observation and short-range communication equipment, as well as several devices that looked to be used for scanning minerals, or finding hardwire lines buried under them. It was rundown, filled with crushed energy drink cans and fast-food wrappers, and an old “new hovercar” scented tree dangling from the rear-view. The damned thing looked ripped from a graphic novel the kids elsewhere might have been reading, for all the questionable weaponry that would lie at rest under an eschewed blanket. One might even swear a rocket launcher was somehow tucked under there.

”Mind the safety belts. There are none.”

Camellia would turn passed Zuqetta and the Wonderbot, giving a nod to Lilith towards cab.

”You’re up front with me. Let’s go.”

The konatsian would pause to the other girl’s comment over what a safehouse might be, blinking several times, before she would shoot her a smile out of amusement. The drive for the most part had gone uneventful before they neared the bridge, Camellia unaware to exactly what her other passengers were up to in the back, but she decided not to give it much thought. It had been a long string of nights, and they were beginning to wear against her as she sat in this seat. It was easy to give them all the benefit of the doubt with Lilith’s reaction to the cityscape, which in that moment Camellia could have sworn it might have been another night, another time. The innocence in those seconds reminded her so much of a night now so long ago, and how it had changed so drastically.

Little did any of them know, this one would be no different.



It was quick, a blur of motion in the rearview.

Cam barely caught it before it was gone. Another car? No. The rain made it hard to tell, and too soon did Lilith draw her attention back to the moment at hand. My wha-? Seconds ticked, the konatsian would glance to the shinjin, then out the window. Only a few more ticked by, enough to ascertain the face, the speed, and an ultimatum. Another bolt in the sky, a flash of teeth in a smile. ”No,” replied Cam in a whisper, barely enough of a breath for anyone to hear. The squall outside the van would burst through the open doors, Cam would wrench a glance back against the storm, Zuqetta vanishing into the rain after the bot.

”Hey!” The konatsian would yell after them; a honk from a neighboring vehicle would force her to jerk the wheel from the further lane. The crash of boots on the roof, and OW-1's voice in a close proximity filled her ears. Cam returned her focus to the enigma, coming to find the bot keeping equal time between them, its inquiry of the runner’s ki already in progress.

”Can’t this wait!?” she called urgently to the droid, before being urged to speed up at the saiyan’s behest. The konatsian’s foot hit the accelerator, while she would try to reach out to grab the curious machine as the van surged forward. The rain made the first attempt a failure, a swipe to the air, nothing more. Zuqetta took her shot, forcing the driver to relinquish her hand. ”Where did you find that!?” she called after the girl on the roof. The blond was forced to take her eyes off the road, the van swerving into the speedster’s lane abruptly in the motion, bringing the cab of the vehicle around OW-1 and dangerously close to Striker all at once. Unfortunately, this would put the orb into Cam’s line of sight. A bright pair of lights would flash ahead, a loud continuous horn from a truck.

”C-can’t see, Owl!” cried Camellia in a panic, moving to push the bot into the bench seat in front of Lilith. Another jerk of the wheel away from the fauxbian would cause weapons under the blanket, including those belonging to the driver, to become dislodged and begin to teeter toward the back of the open van. They would miss the oncoming vehicle by a few feet, the driver side mirror being taken off with a violent crunch and a shower of sparks.
