Baq was a woman prone to happy little accidents, but Kabe was easily in the top percentile. Even if they had only played for a short while many years ago, which almost cost the shinjin the tip of one ear, plenty of good came from it! After all, not long after Kabe was blessed with a bottomless stomach and enough hunger to burst it (this was an exceptionally useful and absolutely intended mutation), Duria stopped being brought up as often in Heaven. Or, like, ever... The little whelp had done it, thought Baq as she weaved purpose behind one spontaneous moment of whimsy, he had turned a world smothered by Shinjin interference into a place of constant change and natural evolution! This she was certain, as it proved her greatness. And so, with this victory kept secret for fear of having this curfew-break lengthen her sentence, Baq let bloat her ego quietly. 'Ah, little Kabe,' she would sometimes think, in the already rare times she thought of individuals rather than species (or herself), 'my HERALD and PROPHET! Once I'm done with this WRETCHED Realm I shall make myself known to you.'
And done she was, with the sentence and Heaven and everyone in the godly bureaucracy, her destination was the Mortal Realm and here she had been for the past almost-a-week. The funnest almost-a-week she had had in centuries! Things quickly turned hectic, of course, and gone transplanetary, but Baq remembered (just hours ago) that her theophanization on Arcose wasn't random. Besides turning rats bioluminescent, which was admitedly more random than purposeful, she needed to have 'the talk' with Kabe.
Gone were the Ages when shinjin actually used mortals as HERALDS and PROPHETS, perhaps Baq had forgotten what little she had read on it, and maybe such a tactic was at odds with her desire to see mortals free and live in blissful chaos but... she also needed someone... to commune with? A soul beneath hers, yes, but that she could nevertheless cryptically open up to and, at times, not always, so as not to ruin the effect, be opened up to and that way bestow her very particular brand of wisdom. Hence her throwing such loaded terms as HERALD and PROPHET. Shinjins just weren't drawn to friendships.

Kabe's track wasn't hard to follow, or perhaps Baq was just lucky: the tip of her ear tingled when she walked in certain directions. She let herself be guided deep into a strange corner of Kuriza, a whole block of brand-new spiral buildings made in cement and steel that reached for the sky, all empty, looming over streets of cobbled marble arranged in complicated patterns, also empty. A still-shiny gold plaque on a disproportionally worked pillar bore the smug expression of an Arcosian noble, someone had snuffed cigarette butts in his eyes. Baq reached up and popped the ends in her mouth.
