Tarine hadn’t imagined he’d have spent the day trundling down the backroads of a seemingly endless expanse of farmland but here he was.
Very, very lost.
He was confused, he’d been following the map, he should have been in East City by now right? Right? Apparently not, otherwise he’d be seeing a lot more than fields, trees and the occasional farmhouse. It was boredom incarnate and if not for the rumbling of his hoverbike’s engine to keep him company, there was a very real chance he could have fallen asleep at the controls.
The monotony was broken by a loud thump coming from the engine. Concerned, Tarine looked towards the dash for a sign of what caused the fault. Before he could spot anything out of the ordinary however, a violent, shudder rocked the machine, prompting Tarine to instinctively hug the controls out of the fear he’d be launched off. The engine was now producing a worryingly loud rattling noise, as one of the jets was beginning to sputter out, causing the vehicle to dip to one side. Frantically, with one hand keeping a tight grip on the handlebars, the other was attempting to flip switches in the vain hope his engine troubles would miraculously disappear. He didn’t have high hopes, and the next shudder was one too many for his liking. So as soon as Tarine felt the hoverbike making another dip towards the ground, he sprung into action, his ki swelled as he kicked against the frame and launched himself into the air. The vehicle continued on, sputtering, and with no one at the controls, veering off to the side. Predictably, with the issues it was presenting, the engine quickly gave out and it dropped to the ground with a crash, where it’s previous momentum caused it to skid and tumble forward, only narrowly missing a tree, instead making its resting place in a ditch marking the divide between the road and the fields beyond.
While at least he wasn’t the victim of an unfortunate roadside accident, flinging himself into the air wasn’t the smartest of moves either, especially since he had yet to master any air-based ki abilities other than jumping and flailing helplessly when he remembered falling was a terrifying experience. The way up was fine, though seeing the ground rush towards him a little too quickly ended up sparking to life that little part of his brain that saw it as a death sentence... so what could have been a solid landing on two feet turned into a wild swinging of limbs that ended with him letting out a grunt as he landed on his front.
Quickly shaking away the disorientation, Tarine began to pick himself back up, briefly pausing as he caught a glimpse of where his bike ended up. Soaking in the scene, it dawned on him what just happened and his eyes went wide, he scrambled to his feet, running forward in a panic as he needed to assess the damage.
“Sh- crap, no come on, don’t do this, don’t do this to me-”
He hurried his way to the ditch, looking down he could see while the bike hadn’t exactly been mangled, there were more than a few nasty dents and scratches that signified it probably wouldn’t be in a rideable condition any time soon. A feeling of dread began to set in- not only had his vehicle just decided to trash itself, he was now stranded with no clue of where he’d ended up... he could walk, but where? There wasn’t anything resembling civilisation as far as the eye could see.
He sighed and began pacing around the wreck distraught. Eventually he decided that wasn’t going to solve any of his problems, and he slumped against a tree defeated. If he was lucky, maybe someone would happen across the mess he’d got himself into- otherwise, maybe he could use the time to clear his head and come up with something more effective than hoping for a miracle to save him.
