BACKGROUND:
History:
The creation happened many a year ago; a pair of heirs were spawned to a powerful prince, which once held reign over vast territory across the Demon Realm. The empire’s strength was among the few feared in the reaches of Hell, and where whispers might have reached in the mortal realm.
The youngest daughter, Laurel, spent many of her earliest years alongside her sister in dedicated training for service to their father and lord. The kingdom scoured the realms for efficient instructors in the arts of killing and subterfuge, training the heirs to become among the most feared assassins at the demon lord’s disposal. They were often used as tools of war against the few clans which threatened their power and territory. As the girls were dispatched into a variety of theatres across the realms, their horizons in both interest and skill would broaden with every battle, every victory, and every defeat. Their missions prioritized uncovering new means to turn the tide in their long-standing war, to ensure their father might rise to become the next Demon King.
The younger heir took a keener interest in the mortal planes, whose interest fell in the advancement of its various races and the secrets left behind in their wake. Though try as she might to prove her worth, Laurel was ever destined to live in the shadow of a favored sister, always doubted and underestimated at every turn. Despite never receiving the respect and adoration from their father, it only drove Laurel further to prove herself worthy of it. Her time away in the mortal worlds left her enamored with their struggles and triumphs, finding an intrigue in how beings on these planets carried on.
An operation on an uncharted planet would lead Laurel to discover ruins which came to hold a deep fascination with the demon. She would order her soldiers to seek out and capture numerous scholars in the nearby star systems, who could decipher the ancient texts inscribed within them. The teams would uncover a legend pertaining to a pool, believed by these ancients to bestow those whom bathed in its waters the gift of immortality, or an absurd amount of power. Believing it a possible asset to helping her clan win the war, Laurel would return home with her findings to present to her sire. The countless evidence and research were passed over, deemed by her sister as nothing worthy of their father’s time, before most of it would be destroyed.
Deciding to uncover the truth as to why her sister wished Laurel’s findings remain hidden, the youngest sibling would take to shadowing the eldest’s movements. It was during these nights of reconnaissance that she would discover an alliance between her sister, and one of their father’s greatest rivals - both aiming to pit two of the oldest, most powerful families against each other in a war that would raze the known paradigm of the realm. How they were to accomplish this or the ultimate purpose in doing so, remained unknown, and thus did Laurel set out to find the pool in the legends before they could put their plans into motion. Unaware to the younger sister, she was tailed by agents of the enemy as a means to uncover the pool’s location.
The excursion would lead them to an island, where they began to discover traces of evidence alluring to the legends. The trek across the massive isle brought them into frequent encounters and fights with a rival expedition team. During one such fight Laurel was introduced to Lord Reign; an arcosian obsessed with the occult and arcane intent to claim the mythic power for his own. The pool is revealed to have been tapped by an arrogant shinjin many centuries prior to their arrival, sparking a desperation to return home in the demon princess. Reign and the opposition are eventually eliminated at the penance of those most loyal to the Heiress, leaving few to return to their domain – not to revel in glory that now seemed undeserving, but to witness the downfall to one of the most powerful kingdoms in Hell.
The fight to resist those that would seek to alter the paradigm was brutal. Those who did not resist the regime change were either cast out entirely, imprisoned in the dark fortress Pandaemonium as Laurel, or worse, bound to arcane items via their souls. The Heiress would endure nearly a century in darkness, before the shifting powers in the mortal realm would inevitably send repercussions their direction. It remains uncertain to this day exactly who the enigma that saved her from Pandaemonium was, though they are forever in the demon’s gratitude. Laurel would return home to confront her sister over the fate of their lands and their father, who was revealed to have been among those banished. The two would duel, before Laurel’s hand is forced to deliver a lethal stroke. Deeming herself unworthy to claim what was now rightfully her own, the last daughter would seal the gates to their home, setting out to scour the mortal realm of what traces might remain of her father.
