CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
APPEARANCE -
BACKGROUND: Marrow Caliber was born the half-breed child of a passionate but ultimately loveless affair between a Saiyan soldier and a regular human woman. The courtship was not intended to end with a child, and contact had already been long lost at this point, so the mother - albeit sadly - placed no fault at the feet of her former lover. Aside from the multicolored tail and high battle power, a young Marrow didn't look much the part of a Saiyan, inheriting her mother's odd hair hues and fairer complexion. There was much abnormal about Marrow, and while her mother initially chalked it up to Saiyan influence, certain events stuck out.
The babe never cried after being born, or even AT ALL following that, and only exceedingly rarely would laugh or smile. Developing quickly as many Saiyan children did, this unnerving quiet behavior carried over into the girl's developmental years. That wasn't to say she was stoic or ignored her mother but rather was far more reserved and emotionless than the average late toddler. There was a protective, possessive love that Marrow felt for her mother - along with an obligation to listen to her instructions as that is what a mother was for - but it never quite hit the same region of unconditional affection that most young children would have for their parents.
Attempts at socializing via the medium of a pet were lukewarm. While Marrow took excellent care of the two-tone rabbit Hops, and often enjoyed petting and playing with the animal, she often neglected primary care early on unless given explicit instructions or explanations as to WHY a rabbit would need such things. In the girl's words, she cared for Hops because SHE enjoyed petting and playing with him, and would often show signs of discontent if the animal was in a bad or uncooperative mood.
Early schooling with other children wasn't much better. Marrow made no attempts to gain new friends, and her standoffish personality drove many away. The few that initially teased her for the multicolored hair or her alien heritage quickly scattered after small acts of violence were threatened or performed. While this meant a simple (worrying) upbringing in near isolation, this sort of behavior was appreciated by the more developed and callous groups of High School. Above simple bullying or clicks, Marrow (mainly unintentionally) fell in with the more severe ruffians of her age. Her mother's concerns over her social life and potential dangers were dismissed or simply misunderstood. While the hybrid DID listen to her mother, the half-suggestion half-commands in which she suggested that this could be bad simply didn't make sense.
At this point, her personality had developed into slightly more of an outgoing and approachable one, though Marrow still projected the air of a confident and no-bullshit thug. Incidents with the impromptu gang started small - mean-spirited pranks, TPing, and illegal smoking. When the time came for an actual shakedown of a rival group, an empty threat-slash-suggestion by one of her 'friends' that they'd fight over a paltry amount of cash, Marrow was the first the swing and the only one to walk out without a scratch. Fighting, pain, a challenge - usually all things that a Saiyan would presumably crave and a Human would shirk from, but Marrow was neither. She didn't attack because she wanted to or felt the pressing need, but because she was indirectly asked to. The action was as thoughtless and about as memorable as breathing to her.
A reputation as a stoic, violent, prime fighter quickly saw Marrow ascend up the impromptu hierarchy to the top. While most kids only worked a part-time job (indeed, she did too, at a cinnamon roll shop), Marrow made a small fortune from petty crime and intimidation. Money was valuable, money bought her things she liked, and if crimes would net her the most, that was what she'd do. Around her second year, at age sixteen, a break-in happened while Marrow was away at school. The girl returned home to a broken house and bloodied mother, and even the sight of that stirred nothing in her heart beyond a distant thought that she'd need to clean it later. The newly christened orphan 'fled' (wandered off) on her own accord, naturally falling in with even more criminal activity to scrape by in the heat-ridden slums of her home.
It was by pure chance that Eris, a rotten fruit lesser Kai with a knack for violence, stumbled into Marci at this time. The Shinjin offered money, training, and most important of all: guidance. Intrigued, the hybrid accepted the proposed offer and was quickly put to the test, Eris wishing to see just how far this new mortal would go. Needless to say, Marrow's apathetic willingness to participate in mundane societal expectations and, on a dime, bloody another person without blinking an eye caught even the chaos-loving Shinjin off guard. Still, this was a prime opportunity for Eris - someone she could cultivate and raise into the perfect force of destruction that the universe was so sorely lacking! A year has passed since their initial meeting, and it will soon be time for Marrow to partake in more SERIOUS tests of faith...
