Items: Guiding Candle (Used to make this thread)

Meditation had always been a part of Ollo's life, from the moment he was born and even now as he would rest in one of the few Mazoku villages which were kind enough to take him in. After a long day he had planned to calm down with some meditation before bed to calm him down. Sitting cross legged and barefoot upon the ground, Ollo would place each pair of his arms together as he closed his eyes and began to concentrate on his breathing. The mazoku were even kind enough to provide some sort of scented candle to help enhance his experience. While it smelled rather funny, Ollo was careful not to say anything about it, not wanting to turn down their generosity. Instead he tried his best to ignore the stench focusing in and out on his breathing.

Maybe there was something strange inside the candle because it felt as if his world was changing. Strange sounds began to invade his ears, unlike anything he had ever heard before. The scent slowly began to fade, replaced with something a little bit more pleasant to his relief and now a cool breeze was beginning to strike his skin, a strange sensation considering he was at the Scar where it was typically much warmer than the rest of Namek. Still he tried his best to focus on his breathing, hoping that all of them would fade eventually when-

"Hey!"

His eyes shot open at the sound of the voice where a strange cloud like figure was looking down at him. What? Where was he? As his eyes frantically scanned his surroundings he was somewhere indescribable. Giant buildings, far different from what he was used to on Namek, surrounded him. Technology unlike anything he had ever seen were swarming around, with the sky a strange pink color unlike anything he had ever seen. What? Where was he? Just a short while ago he was at a room within a village and now he was here?

"How long are you gonna just sit here, we're walking."

The cloud figure in front of him clearly sounded annoyed, wearing alien clothes that he had never seen before. Despite the fact that the cloud had no physical form, it almost looked as if he had his hands on his hips. "I'm I'm I'm sorry," Ollo stuttered, scrambling to his feet as he began to run away. Everywhere he looked it all seemed the same. Alien buildings, strange surroundings, and most of all cloud people. Where was he and how did he get here?

Dying was a bizarre thing. The concept of persistence after death both traumatic and peaceful, continuation into life after life, CHANGED people. Some for the worst and some for the better, but it was a sole inarguable truth that it happened. Heck, it had even happened to Amara herself. Worries about the battle, her mission, and her strength had all faded into a haze of acceptance that she was gone. She was dead, and there was no way for her to come back, even if she wanted to. She wasn't wholly devoid of feeling or reminiscences of her past life, of course. As visitors from the living realms briefed her of previous events, flashes of sadness and satisfaction came and went.

Most of her time was spent in the vast empty meadows of Heaven tuning her equipment. That or the depths of Hell where it was tested against eager and willing warriors from all creed and origin. Hell was not so much a penitentiary for the wicked as much as it was a correctional facility that housed ALL walks of life not deemed quite heroic enough. The vilest of villains would end up interred alongside average everyday people down there. It was a perplexing, jumbled system, and Amara had no clue how it benefited anyone, but given that it had been in operation since the beginning of time, they must be doing something right. All that being said it wasn't too surprising to see impatient or rude shades in Heaven.

They had acted well in life and were given rein to act as they pleased in their afterlife so long as it didn't stray from the rules. It didn't make it any less weird that Amara had to sidestep a fleeing six-armed fleshy child in a panic. While the hybrid could, as everyone else, choose to stay formless she opted to keep her original appearance. It was a tad bit ghostly and the halo betrayed her own dead status, but Amara found it much more pleasant than staying as a formless ghost. She'd reach an arm out to block Ollo gently, a glint of curiosity in her eyes. "You look like you just stumbled unto the wrong city street. Is there something the matter?"

It was difficult to see how the other denizens were reacting when many of them didn't have a face or a form to display any body language. Still, Ollo swore he could feel eyes on his back as he ran through the streets, trying to figure out where he was. Everything was unfamiliar, overwhelming and he felt as if he was about to fall over. Perhaps he was dreaming, but never had Ollo had a dream this vivid and full of so many strange looking places and people. Where was he and how would he get out of this madness?

It wasn't long before an arm stopped him. Wait an arm? As his eyes trailed up the limb, he soon came face to face with a young alien (human, saiyan or tuffle? honestly he couldn't keep up with all these species) woman with a strange disc above her head. Still, it was a breath of fresh air in what appeared to be a sea of cloud people. "Please help me," Ollo shouted, his tone a little louder than it should have been. All six of his hands clasp together in a begging position, his eyes beginning to wander, unable to even know how to act in a situation like this. "I wanna go back. I don't know where I am right now?" Well, he didn't particularly know whether this stranger could even help him in a position like this, but compared to everything there was a small source of familiarity seeing someone with a physical body over a cloud-like form. With how much his head was swarming, he didn't even notice how the woman's form may have been slightly ethereal and completely neglected to even think about the yellow disc above her head.

Pointing at where he was just a few minutes ago, Ollo continued to give his end of the story. "I was meditating and then I woke up there. I don't know how I got here!" He really was trying not to cry, but he had never thought it was possible to feel this homesick in such a short frame of time. At a certain point to confirm his suspicions, Ollo would even pinch himself in hopes that he would wake up, although he was soon once again forced to confront the fact that this was just a living nightmare.

"Oh boy," Amara blinked as Ollo's panic was turned in her direction. "Well I can't say that-" He kept blubbering, the spirit finding it a bit hard to keep up with it all. She was never good with kids in the first place and here was a fleshy one that looked human but obviously wasn't and they were all in a tizzy about something. "It might help to know where you wanna even go back to! The universe is a pretty big place and most folks end up one way or another so it's-"

Blarg. There he went, AGAIN. Something about meditation and whatnot? "You seemed to have stumbled into Otherworld on accident, my guy. Though most people I've seen like you know full well what those candles will do when used." Her phantom nose wrinkled, unsure of what exactly to tell him. "They always just kind of fade away eventually though? The time a living person can actually spend here is really restricted unless you're a Shinjin. ...Or a DEMON but they don't like to talk about that particular loophole in Hell often." Surely this kid would have at least a faint idea of what he was getting into? Sure actually GOING to Otherworld was a trip and a half, but he knew it could happen right?

Despite his panic, the woman seemed kept together enough after he blurted out his predicament... not that he had any other person to turn to otherwise. She had begun to offer some advice, before his words finally settled in where Ollo learned finally where he was: the Otherworld. "I dunno where that is, but I just wanna go home." Once again, tears were threatening to spill out of his eyes. There were so many people that he wanted right now, but despite his efforts to try and contact them with his telepathy it all appeared to be impossible. There was something that rang a bell with what the woman said though.

A candle.

That was right! As he began to meditate, the people of the village gave him a scented candle to help put him in a zen state. He didn't really feel like it worked seeing as the scent was more irritating rather than relaxing. "Candle? What did the candle do to me?" He asked, trying to keep his composure together even though it felt like he was about to burst into tears at any moment. There were a few words that he managed to catch that he could recognize, such as shinjin, however there was something that confused him about it's usage. "I thought shinjin lived in a place called the core world? Is that also this other world?" His mind went to his last encounter with those types of alien, and while the description did match up with what Ward said, what the core world looked like exactly was still a mystery.

"That's understandable," She'd repeat again, Amara completely unperturbed by Ollo's consistent blubbering. "But if you want to go home sooner we'd need to figure out when and how you got here in the first place, OK?" At least her mentioning of those bizarre candles struck a chord of some kind. She had a sneaking suspicion that whenever one was used in proximity to a recently deceased soul it created a distinct 'scent' of some kind. In Amara's case that was obviously ozone, though she hadn't met many other dead folks that had died only recently as of late. "I don't know how it works exactly since like, I haven't ever gotten to see one for myself, but from what I've seen secondhand: It essentially sends your conscious mind to Otherworld temporarily. Sometimes folks get a physical body too, sometimes they don't."

And then he asked about the Shinjin, hoo boy. "Core world is within Otherworld. I should say that Otherworld isn't exactly a planet, it's an entire alternate dimension separated from the mainline reality. Right now you're up in Heaven, the highest point of Otherworld right below the Kai's realm. I've actually been there a few times myself, but they don't really appreciate tourists, and the one Shinjin I personally met whom I told about it froze up before acting really weird about it. Something about 'finding it should be hard'. I guess that'd be true if I didn't have a guide of my own to help, but still!" Off topic. The boy wasn't here to chat about that stuff obviously, so Amara refocused herself: "Anyway. You can either ride out the candle time as they're ALWAYS temporary, or you can try and... concentrate your conscious back to your actual body?"

Although he had tried to pay attention to her explanation, he couldn't understand much of what she was saying, at the very least until she had mentioned one specific location. Heaven?! Ollo had heard of this mystical place before, a realm where the dead reside before they became one with Porunga but if he was here that could only mean one thing. Instantly all his arms began to probe his body, trying to make sure that he was still alive. From what he could tell so far, his body was very real and not ghostly like the others. Well, he wasn't a cloud like the others so that was relieving, but did that mean this woman in front of him was also alive if she had a body too. "Are you also from the normal world? Is that why you aren't a cloud?" At the very least, he could be somewhat relieved at the fact that he was not the only person to go on this journey, however he would feel much more comforted if he met someone that also had accidently found their way here.

It appeared that there were only two ways to return home and considering how much his mind was racing, he had highly doubt he would be able to concentrate long enough to return to his body. Shaking his head, Ollo simply stated what he thought, "I don't think I can do that. I feel too funny to try to go back to his body. How long do I have to be here if I can't go home like that?" His fingers were crossed that it would only be a few hours worst case scenario, especially when he could not risk staying here for even more than a day.

"Well..." Most of the cloud souls are just those who didn't bother forming a body, ethereal or not. "Yeah I guess I am. Not exactly but close enough that it shouldn't really matter." It was a lie but honestly Amara had no wish to further calm the kid if her saying 'no' would send him into another fit of hysterics. "I'm just a well-adjusted visitor to Otherworld. You see it isn't that hard to get here once you know how!" Though with how horrid of a first impression this seemed to be, Amara had her doubts that Ollo would find his way back anytime soon. "With all that said and done it shouldn't be too hard to just wait out your timer naturally."

Meditation seemed out of the picture, though it wasn't like she expected it to work at all in the first place with how jumbled up Ollo was. "Well most peeps I talked to don't last for more than a couple hours at most before their fake souls start getting forcibly dragged back to the real world again. Something about Otherworld automatically filtering out intrusions and whatnot. So we could find something cool to pass the time instead! Do you wanna come with me to a street restaurant? It's a personal fav of mine. You sit outside on stools and they have EVERY food or drink imaginable. Also, it's all magic so even you should be able to gain some saturation from it."

Ok good. That made him feel much better knowing that he wasn't the only person here that was alive. From her explanation, she was a frequent traveler here, meaning that she knew the ins and out of this place well enough (or at least that was what he thought). It didn't seem like a bad place in the slightest, but it was quite unnerving being in a place where a lot of people were dead. Still, seeing as Ollo couldn't return back so soon, he just had to take the time to adjust the best way he could. "Ok, then." He said, trying to find some way to at least alleviate some of his nerves. He could handle a few hours, especially when it was night time anyways. He was about to go to bed afterwards so it shouldn't be too bad.

The woman offered to take him to a restaurant, the word ringing a vague bell in his mind. It was only after she had mentioned food and drinks when he finally understood what she was talking about. He nodded slowly, "I've never eaten anything other than vegetables before though. Or drank anything that isn't water or nasty medicine." His face wrinkled up at the mention of that foul connation. He could practically taste it on the tip of the tongue. However, if she really meant every food and drink imaginable... Did that mean he could try the fabled pancakes? If that was the case, he was getting quite excited now.

As he readied to travel to his new location, another thought popped into his head. "Oh, I forgot. I'm Ollo." He said, holding out one of his hands, the human one, for a handshake. "Thank you for helping me out, miss."

"You've lived on veggies and dihydrogen monoxide your entire life?" Damn what a sad existence. Then again old Amara essentially survived on little more than MREs and the occasional bit of ice cream - the latter of which happened only because of strangers turning friends that specifically offered to get the treat together. "Well worry not! All the food here is magical and stuff. You can try everything from soda to a cheeseburger. No actual meat or vegetables anywhere to be seen, simply simulacrums of it." There wasn't really a sense of time in Otherworld either for most of the denizens, meaning that food establishments served all sorts of menu items all the time. The only cases where restaurants closed were due to damage or renovation with new magical stuff.

"Nice to meet ya Ollie," She took the top hand with a firm grip, to Ollo it'd feel very physical despite the true nature of Amara's current form. "Most people call me Amara. That's because it's my name. So you can call me that too! And don't worry about it. I somehow doubt we'll be seeing much of each other anytime soon so this is the least I can do." It wouldn't take long for Amara to lead them to an open-sided street restaurant, the woman hopping up on a stool and gesturing for him to do the same. "Just tell the red or blue Ogres what you want when they come over. Or ask for a menu. That's pretty rare but they do still keep em around."

"Dihydro-what?" This woman was pretty funny, saying plenty of strange words that he didn't understand. Still, Ollo tried to take them all at face value, taking in what he did understand and going through with it. Well, at the very least they were all magic so it would probably taste a bit better. Still, that didn't stop a grimace to come over his face at the mention of meat. "I don't eat meat, real or fake. I'd feel bad." Still, at the very least if what Amara said was true, he could definitely order plenty of other things that didn't contain that foul ingredient. Still, he was a bit interested in what a "soda" and "cheeseburger" were whatever it was. Maybe he could truly learn what eating good food was like.

Ollo didn't think twice about taking the handshake, giving her a firm shake in response. With that, the two would head towards the restaurant, taking a seat right next to the woman as he leered over the countertop to see if he could figure out what these ogre people were currently doing. Although she did suggest him to take a menu if he didn't know what he wanted, Ollo shook his head at the offer. "I think I know what I want. I want pancakes please! Can I also get some water too?" He said, giving the servers a big grin. The red ogre behind the counter merely nodded before they got back to their work, although their blue counterpart stared at him for a bit longer, probably confused by his strange appearance. As they got to his order, Ollo looked at Amara, curious to see what she would order herself.

"'Tis the fancy way of saying water, broken down by the atomic bonds that actually make water 'water'." It was also a really fun way to mess with people who thought it was the name of some chemical that was put into absolutely everything. "Though I don't blame you for not knowing that. No offense intended, but by your mannerisms and general dress code hard science is one of the last things that would come tumbling from that mouth of yours." Ollo did make a weird face about the passing comment of meat, Amara shrugging: "That's fine, they got every vegetarian option you could ever wish for too. Getting to experience some of the Heaven smorgasbords a bit earlier than normal!"

Ah, it seemed the boy was in a breakfast mood. "Pancakes are cool. Though water with it? You should spice it up, especially if you're going full breakfast mode with it. Up to you but I'd recommend some apple or orange juice, those are classics. Though porpl berry juice is good too, only found out about it after coming here." A beefy red-skinned ogre complete with smudged apron paused their work, beelining to Amara was offered the Oni a smile. "Hi Gama! Could I get a chocolate whole bagel with cinnamon cream cheese, slather style, and a tall glass of orange juice to go with it?" The man nodded, grunting as he moved swiftly back into the kitchen interior.

Oh, so that was one of the science things. Maybe learning more about that craft was a bit more important than he initially thought. Silently, Ollo would make a mental note to ask Flamel for more scrolls that would teach him about science for the next time he would meet with these science folk. For now he was more interested in the fact that he could finally meat, and thankfully there were vegetarian options, which he assumed meant there was no meat. "Are pancakes veggie thingy?" He asked, realizing that he never even thought about whether the meal he ordered in the first place contained any flesh. After all, aside from the general sensation of the pancake that Pankaa described to him, he didn't actually know whether or not it contained flesh.

Amara also seemed rather skeptical at his drink option, suggesting other things to go along with his pancakes. Well, it wasn't as if he really knew what other liquids could be consumed aside for alcohol. Even then, the adults told Ollo not to try it until he was older, which he dutifully agreed. It appeared that the juice was made with some berries, making at least consumable for him at the very least. "Uhhh, I'll have some of that porple berry thing then." He wasn't particularly sure what it was, but he trusted her judgement. After all, she was the master of all this place. "You seem to eat here a lot if you know so much." Ollo commented. "How long do you come to this other world place?"

"Vegetarian? Yeah. They're made from batter which has stuff like flour and sugar. They aren't VEGAN because it contains animal byproducts like egg or butter but that isn't the same as actually eating meat so you're in the clear there." Like if the main sticking point for Namekian maybe people was the whole flesh-eating and killing circle of life part, empty eggs and refined milk should be excluded from it. "Oh right! It'll also contain a slice of butter atop of the stack which melts over the rest of it, that's pretty good. And generally, you get different kinds of syrup. Maple is the most common given that it's the Earth choice for Earth food, but foreign syrups exist that also go along with em' too."

"I come here pretty often. It's actually where I spend most of my time!" And by most she meant all. "Mostly cuz-" They were interrupted by the arrival of the dishes, a stack of four fluffy drizzled pancakes awaiting Ollo alongside a tall glass of some clear purple liquid and silverware. Amara's choice was a hearty sliced bagel slathered in cream cheese with an equally large drink. The Tuffle took a moment to grab a bite and a sip before turning back to her companion: "How is it? Everything you ever hoped it'd be or what?"

Although most of the ingredients seemed safe at first, there was one ingredient that caught his attention. "Eggs?! You mean like namekians that haven't hatched yet?" He exclaimed, clearly surprised. Immediately, Ollo felt a little sick at the thought of eating the unborn. What were the diets of all these aliens to include eating the flesh of living beings and their unborn children? While milk and butter didn't seem too bad so far, he was quite disturbed at the inclusion of the eggs, his face turning slightly green at the thought. Well, what Amara said was that the food was magically made so it wouldn't be that bad for now, right? Although the thought of eggs still made him feel a bit uneased, he would silently make a note not to consume pancakes in the future unless they were made without that foul ingredients.

Despite the fact that Ollo had never eaten much aside from vegetables before, the moment the fluffy dish was placed in front of him the aroma entranced him. For a moment he forgot about his qualms about pancakes as his mouth began to water at the stacks of pancakes. "Wow, is it always this big?" He marveled, already reaching out his hand to grab at one of these discs before he stopped himself. Right, Pankaa said to use a fork to eat this, right? Through process of elimination, Ollo was able to pick out the fork after a brief moment, recognizing one of the silverware as a dull knife.

Poking at a pancake, he was amazed at how soft it was and without even thinking he would take a bite out of the disc. Instantly he was taken aback with how soft and sweet it was.
