"Khaah! Haah! Haaah...!!"

Virus clutched his chest tightly, back slamming into the rocky wall of a cliff-face. The adrenaline coursing through his body was finally petering out, along with the last bits of energy he had used to escape from Hatchi City.

To think he now possessed the strength to survive a direct encounter with the likes of Queen Rosemary. Not just her, but that Saiyan child had the strength to match the Queen directly. Virus' hands shivered as he looked down at them; He felt so weak, but knowing the limits he had just surpassed...

Virus couldn't feel more ecstatic!

"Finally...! Finally!"

A breathy, hollow laugh escaped his maw. Virus had surpassed his former self and finally evolved into an even more perfect, complete fighter. That momentary surge of power was unlike anything he'd ever imagined...And now, that strength was his. It was his!

That said, Virus still had little idea what it exactly was that this newfound power did. Asides from an astronomical increase in physicality, there was...Something else, to it. Something he knew that if he could master, he'd become nigh-unbeatable.

Virus' cold, chitinous hand dropped to his side as he reared his head, allowing it to crash into the stone. He continued to breath raggedly; The ascension had taken a real toll on his energy levels, and it'd take a good while for them to resupply entirely.

At least he had managed to make it into these Destron-filled crags of death and rot. Surely, no one would be able to follow him here. Right?

It was extremely hard to track down the elusive bug-like creature, even with assistance from his scouter the entire way. While the main combatants were distracted among their rage-fueled brawls and addled brains Gray had shot off after the retreating Virus as soon as he could. Why? He wasn't sure. His brain knew it wasn't an order to finish off any attackers on Tuffle territory, only to simply repel them. Yet at the same time, it wasn't an order to NOT pursue them. And Virus was a curious being, perhaps a gateway to learning more about himself in some sort of twisted way.

Perhaps the sight of Destron infested lands would deter any pursuers from this point on, but Gray could simply... stop breathing. It was like if you had a habit of tapping your finger and decided to suddenly stop. Uncomfortable and unusual but by no means debilitating. The sheer power Virus exuded during the latter part of the battle SHOULD have warded Gray away from following. His empowered shots with a high-caliber rifle stung the bug but did little more - and that was before his strength jumped even more. It was very well possible he could die here. But maybe he wanted that?

Silently descending into the deathly gasses with his left arm navigating the rappel rope, Gray held a high-powered handgun close to his side. Soon enough he came to the outcrop above where Virus was squirreled away, detaching his rope and landing silently to the side of his... prey? "Bug."

With seemingly no one around, Virus finally felt it safe enough to let his guard down and allow himself a moment of rest. His hands pressed against the cold stone behind him, Virus looked up towards the smog and miasma that drifted towards the clouds above, panting raggedly.

The Bio-Weapon had little idea what this 'Destron' truly was, only that it was an extremely potent toxic gas that was used during the Saiyan-Tuffle war. How foolish of them to discontinue such an effective weapon; They'd win this war in the blink of an eye, had they just dropped a bomb filled with the stuff on Sadala.

Virus supposed that that was the exact reason they were doomed to go extinct, though. A species that wasn't prepared to go to any length to ensure survival, wasn't worth surviving.

Lucky for Virus, his Arcosian genes allowed him to survive in the harshest climates, including the choking pressure that was the blackness of space. Some toxic gas wasn't going to do anything to harm him.

...Although, Virus thought he was the only one this accounted for. He was wrong.

A single word alarmed his senses beyond anything else; The moment his pursuer's voice reached his ears, Virus let out a shrill yelp as his entire body jerked upwards!

"GHAAH!"

Survival instincts kicking in, Virus immediately flexed his claws and pointed them towards the masked assassin, teeth gritting against one-another. His energy weakly sputtered from his body; It was obvious that Virus lacked his usual strength.

"Take one more step and I'll...!-"

Virus' limbs began to shake as he struggled to finish his sentence, needing to inhale sharply to catch his breath. His arms sagged to his sides, slamming dully against the stone behind him. Panting loudly, Virus chuckled to himself inwardly, knowing very well that he truly did lack the strength to do anything. How ironic; Was this his end?

"...Come to finish me off? Khaa-haa...Very well..."

Virus is too exhausted to defend himself!

Gray didn't expect Virus to be so weak. It was true that he had sustained massive damage during the incident in Hatchi City, but was it such to the point that even a biologically constructed machine of war would find its' proverbial cogs jammed? It was almost sad to see him struggle so violently only to slump back, defeated. Yet Gray made no move to raise his weapon or even approach another step closer. He simply stood and watched, unsure of how to tackle the situation. Had he come to finish the creature off? "No." If that had been the case it'd have been done by now. Whether Gray wanted to or not. That was just how these things operate.

"You are engineered," He noted, already talking more to a previous enemy than he ever had to his 'allies' within the snakes. "Your power great. You have freedom. How?" That was the crux of the situation wasn't it? Gray didn't WANT to kill but he also didn't necessarily feel an objective aversion to it aside from knowing that it was considered wrong. If this Virus had some secret to unlocking the power that he could one day use to break free from his own chains... he'd take it.

Virus was genuinely surprised to hear the 'no' come from his stalker's mouth. How curious, then what was his purpose with Virus, in that case?

"Why have you come here?"

He shot the masked assassin a harsh, side-eyed glare. A strange notion came from the man; Virus was engineered. Why yes, he was, but why did that matter to him? Virus' head cocked to the side, as he uttered a curious chitter.

Yet as the mention of Virus' freedom loosened itself from Gray's mouth, the pieces started to fall together within his mind. "Ah," Virus grinned. Now it made sense.

"Not entirely organic yourself, are you, friend?"

The Bio-Weapon chuckled weakly. That explained the mysterious, cloaked appearance. He was probably some sort of hideous monstrosity behind that mask, just like Virus. Poor thing, created and controlled for some sort of purpose.

"I'm afraid I don't have the answers you're seeking. I was never under control; My creators are long, long dead." Virus paused, then hummed aloud. "Unless..."

A brief silence hung in the air. While indeed, Virus was free from the start, that probably wasn't always the case. He must've had some sort of 'control' function embedded in his brain somewhere. Tanga must've removed it when he was transferred to CURE's laboratory.

Virus found his curiosity piqued. Maybe he could offer some useful information to this poor, unfortunate victim of bio-engineering

"...Who is it that created you?"

"I look abnormal. Not by much." Gray would holster his drawn weapon, sharply tugging down his facemask to reveal a quite human-looking appearance below. Aside from the lack of a nose and the deathly gray pigment he was 'normal'. Or at least as normal as normal could be. After a few seconds, he'd bring the covering back up with a grunt. "I do not like being looked at." Was he human? By genetic definition, yes. His resilience and regenerative powers came from reverse-engineered genomes found in Namekians and Majins, not injected straight unto the template. That was the point, after all, to reach the next potent stage of mass human evolution. Destron crept along his arms, body, legs, and mouth. Yet it was clear from the stillness of Gray's body that he hadn't drawn a breath since arrival, even after speaking.

"Never...?" It was something of a foreign concept to Gray. His kind (in a broader sense) were all specifically created for a purpose. And that was usually violence on behalf of a malicious entity, hence the need for insurance via control implants. It was frustrating to hear that Virus had no easy explanation for his conundrum. Yes, the bug could be lying, Gray wouldn't put it past the thing. Surely though it'd hold malice for any sort of organization that attempted to wrangle control though. That sort of thing doesn't get willingly swept under the rug, and Virus hardly seemed the sort to play long-winded games.

A question was posed. Gray thought for a few moments before answering: "Now they are called Ascension. That is likely not their only name. Experiments into bio-weapons are their specialty. Humanoid and otherwise." Gray would draw his knife, rolling up his sleeve carefully before stabbing the blade deep into his arm. When withdrawn the wound stitched itself within seconds, leaving no trace of any injury behind. "Resilience and adaptability. That and control is what they did."
