[PTab=Thread Timeline]
ARC I: Fending for Yourself After stealing a sacred blade from Otherworld, Fend arrives in the mortal world. She must learn the ways of the people she wishes to be a part of, and how to face the dangers that threaten her new way of life quickly. With Otherworld's forces hot on her heels, Fend must find her place on her new home as she makes new friends, enemies, and begins to unravel the mysteries of Palibur and her own purpose... But some fun distractions couldn't hurt too much, could they? |
{Spoiler}{Spoiler}
LIGHT AND DARK "First day in the mortal world, hell yeah! I met a cool dude named Erebos in the woods today. We did some fightin' and explorin' and I think we're friends now? Is this what being friends is like??" PARTICIPANTS: Fend's first encounter in the mortal world is with a strange shadowmancing demon named Erebos. While most Shinjin would snap at the sight of a Demon Realm denizen, the two of them hit off with their shared taste for swordfighting, trickery, and shenanigans. And what better way is there to get to know a fellow fighter than to spar? |
"Korin Tower is kinda dump still, no way I'm stayin' there yet. I found a nice spot to set up camp in Mount Paozu, but who the FUCK called over a dragon and a werewolf?!?... The human dude was pretty cool, though." PARTICIPANTS: Fend looks for a place to stay, and settles down in a small cove in Mount Paozu. However, an impromptu housewarming party comes to her door in the form of a demonic dragon, leading Fend and her new allies to combat the beast... Nobody told her that one of them was an actual werewolf, though. |
A GOD TO A NONBELIEVER "NEWS FLASH: Shinjin are still the WORST AAAAGHGHhh!!!... It was pretty fun to clown on that Darastras dude, though. Good to know I haven't lost my touch at teasin' the high and mighty types, heh." PARTICIPANTS: While she has left Otherworld behind, Fend can't escape an encounter with another one of her kind. She duels Darastras, a corrupted Shinjin on a crusade to end all mortal life. Unfortunately for him, Fend likes her mortal brethren, doesn't like Shinjin, and is willing to throw hands. |
"I will admit. There is one, singular, okay enough person from Otherworld now... Meister's, uh, split personality thing weirds me out still, but it's cathartic to hear that someone else knows the Shinjin are all bullshit." PARTICIPANTS: While watching over a humble village at night, Fend has another chance encounter with a denizen of Otherworld in the form of Meister. While suspicious at first, Fend quickly finds that they have a lot in common in regards to their disdain for Otherworld's order... And she learns that she has to work on her disguise, too. |
"OKAY SO ACTUAL CHILDREN ARE FIGHTING CRIME NOW??? WHO LET THIS LITTLE KID OUT HERE?! If anyone lays a finger on Lu I'll kill them and then myself. Is this what being protective feels like?" PARTICIPANTS: Fend is camping out in the woodlands of Mount Paozu when she meets... a fan of hers? Lu, a young rabbit zoanthrope with a surprising proficiency in magic, quickly connects with the masked Shinjin. Fend is just happy to have someone else to talk to, even if she is concerned that someone as young and innocent as Lu is running around fighting crime... |
DETECTIVE WARD AND THE FIENDISH THIEF "Who the hell does this Ward bastard think he is?! I just want to enjoy my life- there's no way in hell I'm insane enough to dedicate my life and afterlife to people like him." PARTICIPANTS: Fend's second encounter with a Shinjin is no more pleasant than her first. Ward outs the masked swordfighter as the Shinjin thief that stole Palibur. All of the bitterness and resentment Fend has for her kind bubbles out as she erupts at the embodiment of everything she hates about the order of Otherworld. |
"I made another friend!! Another real friend!!! I joined the Budokai, and my first fight was SUPER GOOD against this guy named Pracross. We arrived, we vibed, and we survived. We agreed to rematch sometime, too!" PARTICIPANTS: Fend signs up for the Tenkaichi Budokai- a global martial arts tournament promising the most thrilling of fights. Fend's first bout with the speedy saiyan, Pracross, certainly delivers. She quickly finds friendship with her foe as they fight for glory, as well as a new rivalry... But that's not to say the saiyan is planning on letting Fend waltz to the next round. |
"It's good to see Erebos is still a person that exists and we get along good still! Resting in the lounge rooms, just talking to people like me... God, I love this place. I'm never going back home." PARTICIPANTS: Following her fight with Pracross, Fend and her newfound friend take a break in the backrooms of the Budokai Grounds. Other fellow fighters, both new and familiar, join the two of them to discuss the state of the tournament and what's to come. Fend even has a chance to catch up with Erebos and greet her next opponent... |
"I feel bad for Erbia, his last fight was kinda 'eh.' I get why the timer exists but it's kinda cringe too. I'm sure as hell gonna make it up to him though with our fight! Power levels are bullshit." PARTICIPANTS: Fend's second fight, while against a weaker fighter, is none the less thrilling for the spry Shinjin. She promises her foe, Erbia the Heran mercenary, a thrilling fight to make up for the bounty hunter's prior fight that timed out. But can she uphold her promise, and advance to the next round...? |
"Okay, so, today was weird as hell. Palibur did shit. I felt it move on its own... It dragged me to this other Shinjin. But I'm surprised to say Phakk's like me. I... want to talk to another Shinjin again sometime? This... This is new." PARTICIPANTS: Fend takes a well-deserved rest from her fights in the Budokai to head downtown. However, Palibur begins to stir as it senses an old, malicious foe nearby... But all Fend can see is a fellow outcast Shinjin that also likes to speedrun and dress up. She chats with Phakk and goes out for a bite to eat with her new friend. Surely Palibur is just getting worked up over nothing. |
"Welp, I'm about to head into the ring. I'm fighting Azoth, this guy's been talked about like a horror movie monster among the other contestants. I don't know if I can beat him, but I'm gonna fuckin' try. Erebos is expecting me in the finals!" PARTICIPANTS: Fend faces her greatest challenge yet as she brawls against the later-to-be Emperor of Arcose, Azoth. The mighty Arcosian holds back against Fend, much to the Shinjin's disdain at first... Regardless, she refuses to go down without a fight, and plans to give Azoth his first workout in a long time, even if she doesn't advance to the next round. |
"HhghGHHH I'm still in pain from Azoth... But I can't just sit around, so I looked at those creepy ruins above the tower fianlly, and WOWEE YOULL NEVER GUESS, ANOTHER SHINJIN WAS THERE!... Oh, there was a cool demon guy too, though." PARTICIPANTS: After her loss at the Budokai, Fend retreats back to Korin Tower to treat her wounds, rest, and reflect on her ventures so far. She finally wills the courage to explore the ruined structure looming above the tower, but unfotunately, she isn't the only one with that idea. Fend encounters another Shinjin familiar with Palibur's theft, and a young demon hybrid that wish to solve the mysteries of the Lookout as well. |
"OH GOD WHAT THE FUCK DID I JUST DO. I told that guy I was Korin's student but Korin is FUCKING DEAD! And he was a nice dude!... At least he seemed to get something out of my, uh, teaching though. Thankfully I think this is just a one-time thing." PARTICIPANTS: Fend finds an uninvited guest at Korin Tower's peak- one who is aware of the rumors of the tower's past. She's unable to work up the will to disappoint Terryn with the terrible truth, and poses as the master of the tower and agrees to give him some training for the day. Surely this is just a one-off venture she won't have to worry about later... |
"Who is Tiamat? Who let her here? Why does she get to do all the things I wanted to apparently but also has the OK from the other Shinjin. She's persistant about me and Palibur also. I-I just... HHhHHHHhhHH...." PARTICIPANTS: Fend's exploration of the Timeless Lookout's remains continue as she looks for more information about Palibur's past. Tiamat, the same Kai she encountered at the Lookout before, also joins the exploration... But the masked shinjin really wishes she'd stop being so persistent about learning just who Fend really is. |
"Wow, things have happened while I was recovering. I don't know shit about politics, but president stuff is a thing and I met one of the candidates. His name was Dairy, I think? Seemed like an alright guy." PARTICIPANTS: Fully recovered from her injuries when fighting Azoth, Fend heads out to the city to celebrate. Things have changed in her absence as Earth prepares for its next elections, and Fend has the chance to meet and greet with one of the candidates, Derry. He seems like an alright guy- nothing suspicious at all... |
ARC II: To be Mortal When Fend fumbles her way into posing as a guardian of Korin Tower and taking on two students, she finds that she has something real to fight for and protect. She encounters much stronger and more malicious foes, and quickly realizes that she's gotten herself into much more than she's bargained for. Determined to persist, Fend must find what it means to be a Guardian to instruct her students, keep her secrets, and discover why Palibur chose her as its wielder before the world moves on without her. |
{Spoiler}{Spoiler}
MARTIAL ARTS 101 "I... I'm going to super hell for this. Remember that Terryn guy? He came back! WITH ANOTHER WHOLE DUDE! A-and now I agreed to teach them both how to be protectors of Earth like a dumbass!!... I'm going to try to uphold that promise, though." PARTICIPANTS: Remember that time Fend posed as the dead Korin's student and agreed to teach Terryn for a bit? Fend experiences regret when she finds the human returning for more, and with a friend this time none the less. While she's still unable to will herself to cough up the truth, Fend dedicates herself to taking this teaching thing a bit more seriously and begins to connect with her two new students. |
"OKAY, FALSE ALARM. The ogre who was climbing up the tower was chill. He has a cool dragon buddy and is looking for more dragon buddies. More Lookout exploration's good by me also, but that place still gives me the heebie jeebies." PARTICIPANTS: Visitors to Korin Tower have been concerningly common lately. While Fend is skeptical of a young Ogre, a species from Otherworld, scaling the tower, the kid claims to be looking for a dragon camping out somewhere high above Korin Tower's peak. Fend agrees to escort Daruma through the Timeless Lookout, hoping to help the ogre and his dragon in their quest and find some more answers to her own questions in its ruined halls... |
CHUGA CHUGA WOOHOOOOO "So about the big, scary, pink monster Terryn and Shoga said they fought that one time? Yeah, I've fought 'im too now. What an asshole, that guy. There's better ways to make money than being an assassin, I'm sure." PARTICIPANTS: Fend takes a well-deserved break to relax and explore the snowy north of Earth, but stumbles upon a strange, scary, pink demon assassin wreaking havoc on a passing train. Like any self-respecting vigilante, Fend steps in to stop the fiend, but soon discovers that she's already familiar with this powerful new opponent... |
"I'm recording this message at three in the morning. Some asshole who has beef with Palibur woke me up to complain... Bright side, I think I know more about the ol' sword from him, but he's also a lying bastard soooo... Ughhh, I think I'm gonna go back to bed now." PARTICIPANTS: Fend's restful slumber is rudely disturbed by a manipulative Oni who detected Palibur's light. She quickly discovers that this odd stranger is already acquainted with the blade that defeated him thousands of years ago. Kamae recounts Fend his tale- though the masked Shinjin wants to learn more about Palibur, can she weave the truth out of the many lies her sword's enemy has thrown at her? |
"Finally, I get to explore the Lookout without Tiamat! Tysco's super cool- I didn't know he was a Monster Fables fan too!... Oh, right, we also both have some magical mysteries of our own to solve, but we were busy being goofs most of the time today." PARTICIPANTS: Fend explores further into the Lookout in search of answers to both its own and Palibur's mysteries, now with a friend! She and Tysco explore further into its depths, goof around, and get to know each other better. But while some answers may deep within the Timeless Lookout's crumbling walls, Fend soon discovers she only has more questions rather than answers... |
HEIST LESSONS "Stopped another funky bank robbery today. I think that puts my total of robberies stopped up to 69 now, haha nice. There was a kid leading it, though?? I can't stab a child! I tried to talk things out instead, so that was cool I guess." PARTICIPANTS: Fend's usual vigilante crimestopping routine continues. She puts a stop to a bank robbery, but is surprised to find the big bad leader of the bunch is nothing more than a teenager... An obscenely powerful teenager, but a child nonetheless. She tries to diffuse the situation, and is presented with the choice of either trying to detain the kid or listening to her gut and letting her go... |
"...That's blood. That is a lot of blood. Hells, is that someone screaming?! I know I was forced to watch shit like this in Otherworld, b-but being here? It's... Oh, the smell, gods, the smell. How many dead are here...? I have to go in. Whoever did this will pay." PARTICIPANTS: Fend stumbles upon a horrific sight. A massacre, with bodies piled in the hundreds, and Shinjin preaching Otherworld's ways and claiming all of mortalkind is evil is the killer. Enraged, she combats the murderer. Even as Kowlin tries to talk and lie his way out of the situation, Fend does not listen and awakens a power in herself and Palibur that she didn't know existed to take him down. |
"Alright.. S-so... Whhhhere the fuck am I? M-my arm, it's burnt to hell... I remember that armored Shinjin bastard, Palibur glowing, and then a lot of light... G-gods, this hurts. Is a-anyone out there...?" PARTICIPANTS: While she had awoken the power to unleash a devastating attack upon the villainous Kowlin, the massive attack she unleashed took a toll on Fend herself as well. Burnt to a crisp by Palibur's burning light, Fend manages to flee the scene and collapse at a nearby oasis... Before she can bleed out, though, familiar faces come to the fallen Shinjin's aid. |
"Today I got mugged by a child!... Actually, the whole thing was really fucked up. The kid was manipulated into thinking I was evil by an evil bastard. Fuckin' rude. Still, I feel bad for her and her friend... I want to help." PARTICIPANTS: Fend retreats to Taola Village to recover from her fight with Kowlin, and decides to stick around and help out around the quaint little town in the meantime. A dog walk turns sour, however, when a young Majin confronts Palibur's wielder and demands her to hand over the blade. Fend quickly discovers there's more to this situation at a first glance, though, and finds a whole new reason to hate the demon Kamae. |
TAOLA IN NEED "Damn, this poor town's been through a lot more than I expected lately. I met up with Terryn again, but he was beaten to a pulp! I'll fuck up whoever did that... The locals of this place are pretty nice, though." PARTICIPANTS: Fend's last day in Taola Village is an eventful one. She stumbles upon a member of the village who'd returned to find the town recovering from the many attacks in the past few days, and Fend is happy to help the Earthing and fill him in on what happened. She meets up with Terryn again as well, but finds that her student has also been through the wringer lately. |
"Kamae is an asshole. The sky is also blue. The dude's not just an evil liar, though, he's a grade-A creep. He's obsessed with Palibur! Does this guy not know what hobbies are?! Like, damn." PARTICIPANTS: While staying at an inn at Taola village, Fend's rest is once again rudely interrupted by Kamae. She prepares for a fight despite her injuries, but is surprised and later disturbed to find the fiend wants to help her recover... If only so he and only he can destroy her and her sword later. Fend's willingness to accept the demon's word and his aid after learning what he did to Liari, though, is lacking. |
DAY OFF "Alright, so maybe I'm not as epic of a gamer as I thought if people like that goggles-guy are running around... As I record this, I'm on my fifteenth attempt to beat him. I'm gonna get first place at least once or so help me god!" PARTICIPANTS: Exhausted from the trials and tribulations of the past few weeks, Fend takes some time to herself. She runs amok in an arcade at Central City, but meets her match in the form of a strange gray gamer who puts an end to her winning streak in a shoot-'em up. Fend vows to defeat the monochromatic menace, and finds a new friend in the process. |
DUSTING OFF THOSE OLD DANCIN' SHOES "Hell yeah, Pracross isn't dead! Good to know he's still existing and vibing in good spirits. He hasn't forgotten that he owes me a rematch, too, so we're gonna do that REAL soon!... But first, snacks." PARTICIPANTS: A surprise guest calls Fend over. Pracross returns from his interstellar travels, and his rival is ecstatic to find out that he hadn't just forgotten about her. The two of them catch up and catch hands, making due on their shared promise for a rematch while also mulling over the troubling events of recent days, and what to do about it. |
A WALK IN THE DARK "Shoga's teachings have been coming along surprisingly well! We took a day off today- I think we both needed it, haha. I didn't expect him to decide to use our free time to explore the big spooky Lookout, though..." PARTICIPANTS: Fend and Shoga take a well-deserved break from their training, though the latter has the bright idea of heading up to explore the Lookout above. His mentor obliges and escorts her student through its twisting corridors, and takes the time to get to know Shoga better and finally start divulging some information about herself as well. |
MAKING IT HARD ON YOURSELF "More visitors stopped by Korin Tower today. Jackie's cool and good, I'm relieved I won't have to figure out this whole teacher thing on my own now... There was also this weird cyborg girl. She seemed alright too." PARTICIPANTS: Yet another guest climbs up to the pinnacle of Korin Tower, and for once Fend is prepared this time. She meets not another student, but another wannabe martial arts teacher in the form of Jackie, and decides to ally with the Earthling to both train would-be defenders of Earth... And soon enough, they're greeted by a would-be defender of Earth to test that theory upon. |
ENTRY DENIED "Tiamat is now officially not the worst Shinjin to be in the Lookout! This weird, freakishly tall Shinjin was prowling about inside. The Lookout didn't like her, Palibur didn't like her, so I didn't like her." PARTICIPANTS: Fend is ushered by Palibur to head back to the Lookout when the blade detects a dark presence skulking around in its sacred halls. Fend confronts yet another Shinjin from otherworld, and heeds her blade's warning and handles the intruder with caution and a healthy amount of distrust. Just what has brought another one of her kind to the Lookout, though...? |
FIELD TRIP "Damn, I've been on Earth for exactly five hundred and seventy-seven days now, and I've enjoyed almost every one of them. Lots of my pals are heading to train with me today- I can't wait! What can go wrong?" PARTICIPANTS: A day of relaxation, training, and spending time with a bunch of her new friends turns sour when Palibur begins to stir like it never has before. Fend is given a terrifying vision by the blade, warning her of a danger to come, and its command to head to the source of the corruption it is sworn to annihilate- Planet Namek. However, she didn't account for all of her friends tagging along with her onto the expedition... |

TRAITS |
Fend can heal her allies with her magical abilities. She can generate a heal valued at 75% of her PL for 3 KP, 150% of her PL for 6 KP. This interacts exclusively with her base PL, and heals based on her target's base PL. She can choose to heal herself instead of an ally, once per thread regardless of level used. The self heal generates a heal valued at 50% of her PL for 3KP or 100% of her PL for 6KP. |
Once per month, Fend may travel instantaneously from one planet to another with up to 5 others. This also provides a free 50% evasive defense technique, useable once per thread, though it cannot have its power boosted in any way. She can also post freely in the Otherworld boards even if you are not dead. |
Fend has the Spectral Wrath trait. Once per thread, you may add +10% to a standard technique. This refreshes once at 100%, and again at 200% damage taken. Healing cannot refresh the effect again. |
AVENGER: Once per thread, upon the defeat of an ally, Fend regains all her momentum. For her next three posts, all momentum effects are boosted as follows:
Power Boost - Additional +10% Power
Transformation Boost - Gain an additional +x1 per 150k base PL. Caps at +x3.
Ki Boost - Subtract an additional -1 KP from cost.
If a minion is defeated and their base PL is not within 50% of Fend's base PL, Avenger is not triggered. Guardians are exempt from this.
SELF-SACRIFICE: Fend may activate any one of her Standard Techniques using her life force. This will render it free of cost, but will instantly knock her out, or wound her in Action Threads. This cannot be used on the same turn she would normally be knocked out from damage.

TRANSFORMATIONS |
> REBEL STANCE (x4): Fend uses her ki to forcefully draw out a bit of Palibur's latent power, increasing her strength and causing a white, wispy aura to persist around her body. Her eyes also turn white when this form is in use. This form usually takes considerable effort to activate, but it is easier for Fend to slip into when facing off against an extremely powerful or evil opponent.
