BACKGROUND:
Life was once glory for Courne, life was once conquest. That was until the war reached its standstill at the disappearance of the king; the spark that ignited rebellion in the kingdom. The capital was in turmoil due to political conflict, while the planet remained ravaged by the war that threatened to tear it apart. To escape what Courne believed would become a continued conflict they would inevitably lose, his son would arrange several favors to acquire a pair of space pods. They arrived on Earth, where over the course of several years, the son would marry to an earthling, and Courne would become bitter over his retirement. Eventually a child was born, a little girl by the name of Cauri. Courne wouldn’t show the girl much love however, finding her unworthy of his line due to her half-saiyan heritage. Cauri grew up trying to be the tough kid in her social group, so as a means to fit in more with the human kids. She did her best to hide her saiyan heritage, even denouncing it at home, because it reminded her of her crazy grandfather. Every day at home she would listen to the drunken fights between her father and Courne over not living the life of a saiyan, ridiculing him over his choices to marry a human girl, and not embracing the life of a warrior.
Instead, he had earned his fortune through the development of boxing ring equipment, training apparel and sparring gear for upcoming fighters. Courne was bitter about anything that represented humanity’s weaknesses and short-comings, and he was never shy about letting anyone know his opinions on it either. Whether it was watching sports on the television at home, or out in public among the family, he was always brash, unfiltered, and downright rude to Earthlings. Cauri was always rather obeisant where her mother’s needs were concerned, which aside from chores around the house, and errands into town, unfortunately tended to whatever her blind grandfather required. She grew close with a few of the neighbors whom also attended her school, and the pair of Lia and Arbol became her home away from home.
One evening during a full moon, Cauri’s curiosity would get the better of her, and after wandering outside to play, would transform into a rampaging Oozaru at the sight of the full moon. Courne would do his best to subdue the beast, but would injure a knee in the process of taking down Cauri with several applications to certain pressure points. He didn’t show it so openly, but the old saiyan was very proud of his granddaughter after that evening. To prevent it from happening again, Cauri’s mother enforced a stricter curfew and set of rules to help the girl remain obeisant. It would happen twice more throughout the years, the final time some few months after Cauri’s fifteenth birthday. Though even with friends to escape to, the shadow of her grandfather’s presence persisted every day when she returned. When the rumor of a great beast lurking within the wastes would reach some local watering hole in the city for up-and-coming fighters, some of these fighters felt brave enough to investigate the rumors, and wished to test their luck against the local legend.
At that time Courne was in need of more frequent trips to the doctor, which thanks to her reluctant father, the job fell to Cauri to drag the grump to his appointments. During these trips Cauri would begrudgingly grow closer to the old fart, and learn a ton about his time on these other worlds called Plant and Sadala. He excessively raved about the decline of a dying empire, destruction of their home world, their war with what could only be described as demons, and how Courne escaped with her father during their last days on Plant. Cauri thought Courne was still crazy, hardly believing much of his stories about his adventures, passing them off as nothing more than the ramblings of an old man. The combat stories were the only things she found remotely interesting, and the more time passed during the hours they spent together, the more intrigued Cauri became about what wisdom Courne held from his time in crisis response.
A curious turn of events found Cauri out in the canyons, looking for a special herb that would help heal a sickness she believed Courne had fallen under. In truth he was just succumbing to old age and a lifetime of battle, nearing eighty-nine years, yet he had been doing his best to hide it from the family. There in the canyons Cauri would chance upon the myth hunters on their camping trip, and her clumsiness would get her caught in the middle of eavesdropping on one of their conversations. They were planning to hold her for ransom, that was until the full moon crept out from behind the clouds. The girl would change and the fighters were soon forced to battle for their lives, until Courne would arrive to intervene. The old martial artist would give the thugs the chance to leave with their lives, but rather than accept his help they would turn on him, all while they were all trying to flee the rampaging Oozaru. The lengthy debacle would fatally wound Courne, leaving the fate of the thugs in the hands of his transformed granddaughter. Courne would die later that evening with a smile on his face, knowing Cauri had finished off those bastards like a true saiyan.
Cauri took out her frustrations on other bullies at school who picked on aliens, by establishing herself as an alpha bully of sorts, projecting a tough girl persona with backing claims of being an alien herself. Despite how much of a hypocrite she felt in contrast to how she was around her family and closest friends, Cauri owned the reputation to instill fear and a sense of pre-caution in the villains of the school. This behavior would gleam Cauri a considerable amount of fighting experience on playgrounds, at sporting events, and even a pep rally one year that resulted in a two-week suspension from campus. Despite trying several times to pick on the uncool kids themselves to prove her point, they still revered her above the other “villains” of the then senior class. Even though she proved to be one of the biggest trouble makers in the graduating group, Cauri still finished with a GPA suitable to get into a decent enough school. The only issue was, she never found an interest in any particular study, and so decided not to go. The appeal of the World Martial Arts Tournmanet on television would win her over, as did the idea of becoming strong enough to one day compete in it.
The death of her grandfather would take a toll on Cauri, whom did everything in her power to prevent herself from transforming into that beast ever again. After spreading Courne’s ashes in the gardens of the family villa, and over the plateaus near their home, Cauri would set out on a pilgrimage to train herself to control the transformation. For six years she would wander the wilds to endure, and acclimate her body to the harshest elements the planet would have to offer. With enough effort and self-discipline, she would eventually develop the ability to channel the power of the Oozaru, yet retain her humanoid form as she took on a Wrathful transformation for the first time. It was difficult to properly trigger and control, but she felt she was on the right path to properly harnessing the strength of the beast. With it she could attempt to right some wrongs in the world, and maybe spare someone else from a fate much like that of Courne.
Cauri would return home to those familiar canyons some months after, intent to use her new creation to better life around the area. She traveled to Taola to reconnect with what friends remained, then sought out information on any gangs or raiders that were causing any of the people trouble. Setting out once more to seek out the troublemakers, Cauri would decide to try her luck with West City.
