CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
APPEARANCE:
Shoga stands five feet ten inches (or 177cm) tall, with a broad-shouldered build and lightly tanned skin. A shock of wild ginger hair sticks out in every direction from his head, violently resisting any and all attempts at grooming. His face is usually clean-shaven, with a pointed nose and intense dark eyes. His body is lean and well-built, clearly the result of years of hard training and dieting. Shoga's ki, when manifested, usually takes on a sky blue color.
Shoga's wardrobe is as straightforward as the man himself, with a limited selection of casual wear dwarfed by a closet full of martial arts uniforms, athletic wear, and protective equipment. This suits him fine; if anything he seems more at home walking around in a ratty gi or sweat-stained gym getup than normal clothes. Even when forced to dress up, it's clear that Shoga's sense of style is a bit underdeveloped.
PERSONALITY: The first thing one needs to know about Shoga is that he is a very straightforward and earnest young man. 'Tact' is a concept he has yet to fully grasp, and lying comes about as naturally to him as climbing trees does to fish. He speaks his mind freely and with conviction, and isn't afraid to be open with his emotions. Shoga's other defining qualities are his seemingly inexhaustible enthusiasm for everything that he does, and his intense stubbornness. Once he has set his mind on a goal, he pursues it relentlessly until it is reached, no matter what obstacles block his path. This can sometimes work to his detriment, as his tunnel-vision leads him to ignore other important matters outside of his current obsession. But Shoga is the kind of person that can't stand inactivity, and without a goal to work towards he quickly becomes gloomy and morose. Shoga also possesses a strong sense of justice, but hasn't quite mastered the idea of moral ambiguity. He quickly gets confused by actions he can't easily sort into either "good" or "evil."
Shoga's greatest driving motivation at this point in his life is his quest to become a great martial artist. Fighting has been his passion since he was very small, and he idolizes the father that taught him. Shoga wants, more than anything else, to become a worthy successor to his father's style of martial arts. To this end, his considerable capacity for hard work has been turned entirely towards training and testing his skills against other skilled fighters. He won't turn down a challenge from anybody, not even somebody far stronger than he, because even a crushing defeat can be an opportunity to learn something and further his training. It helps that he genuinely, deeply enjoys fighting, and a powerful opponent lights a fire in his soul like nothing else does.
BACKGROUND: Shoga was born on Papaya Island to a fairly normal couple, eighteen years ago. His mother was a doctor, working at the local hospital. His father was a former professional martial artist who had fought in the world martial arts tournament, but was forced into retirement by an injury. The two of them met while Shoga's father was recovering in the hospital, and by the time he had recovered they had fallen in love. It wasn't long after Shoga's father finished rehabilitation that they married, and Shoga was born a few short years later. They weren't rich, but Shoga's mother's job provided them enough zeni to live on, and he lacked for little growing up. Shoga's father made a point of instructing him in martial arts from a young age, training him to become the successor of the familial fighting style, the "Steel Tortoise Style." Old family records trace the origins of this style back hundreds of years, when it split off from its parent school, whose name has been lost to time. The true strength of this style is in its techniques to harden the flesh, turning the fighter's own body into both a formidable shield and a deadly weapon. Shoga took to martial arts immediately, showing good potential with Steel Tortoise's offensive techniques, though defense comes less naturally to him thanks to his hot-blooded nature. As they trained, Shoga's father also shared tales of his travels as a young martial artist, and encouraged the boy to consider setting off on a similar journey of his own, traveling the world to learn from other styles and face powerful opponents. This quickly became Shoga's driving obsession, but before he could go anywhere he had to face his first and most powerful rival: Academics.
Shoga's mother insisted that he wouldn't be going anywhere until he finished his education. The problem with this was that Shoga simply wasn't well-suited to academics, preferring action to contemplation. He had been a third-rate student even before he started missing school and getting into fights with his peers, and with the state his grades were in, graduation seemed lightyears away. His chances of getting to set out on his journey across the world seemed incredibly remote. However, Shoga isn't the kind of person to give up just because the odds seem insurmountable. He threw himself into his studies with all the vigor he put into his training, and in the course of a few months managed to totally reverse the course of his academic career, bringing his grades up just enough to graduate by the skin of his teeth. Now, with his parents' blessing, Shoga is finally able to make the journey he has been dreaming of. Packing a few things into a bag, Shoga set out to see new places, meet new people, and fight as many of them as possible. It will be a difficult road, full of hard living, intense training, and strong opponents, but he is determined to face the future with the same enthusiasm he does everything else.
COMBAT INFORMATION
TECHNIQUES:
Light Attack Technique || Spark CannonADDITIONAL NOTES: Rename "Intense Struggle" to "Boiling Blood", please.
Since Steel Tortoise doesn't traditionally include many ki-blast techniques, this one is an original move created by Shoga to fill the gap. He raises one hand, gathers his ki into a blue orb about the size of his head, and then hurls it at the enemy like a baseball. Its power is mediocre, but it is fast and easy to use.
Power: 20%
KP Cost: 1 KP
Variants: N/A
Medium Attack Technique || Burning Lance
A powerful close combat technique that hardens the fingertips and sheathes the hand in burning blue energy, allowing the user to make pinpoint spear-hand strikes with great penetrative power. It isn't unusual for Shoga to get his entire arm stuck in the boulders he uses to practice this technique.
Power: 40%
KP Cost: 4 KP
Variants: Piercing
Light Defense Technique|| Bronze Shell
The weakest of Steel Tortoise's famed defensive techniques. The user concentrates their ki into the muscles around the site of an incoming attack, hardening the flesh and reducing the damage.
Power: 20%
KP Cost: 2 KP
Variants: Shield
Medium Sparking Attack Technique || Bankoku Bikkuri Sho (Worldwide Surprise Palm)
An unusual technique that allows the user to convert their ki into electrical current, shrouding their hands with crackling lightning and firing it at an opponent. While it lacks raw destructive power, the intense pain of being electrocuted lingers even after the technique has finished, sapping the opponent's strength over time. This technique doesn't originate with the Steel Tortoise school, but has been passed down nonetheless.
Power: 70%
KP Cost: 4 KP and 4 MP
Variants: Bleed+, Fatigue
Utility Technique || Ki Sensing
Shoga's senses are incredibly sharp, and he has gained enough sensitivity to ki to be able to see, smell, and sense at a distance the ki of others. He mainly uses this ability to 'read people's auras' to gauge the strength of people he meets.
Utility Technique || Steel Tortoise Style
Representing the basic training required to utilize Steel Tortoise techniques, this technique is the basis for all the others. The user concentrates their ki into their muscles, skin, and bones, transforming soft flesh into what basically amounts to steel armor. An extremely skilled practitioner can harden their body to withstand blows, bladed weapons, and even extreme pressures like the deep ocean. Doing this does eat up a lot of energy over time though, and the more of the body you want to protect, the more energy-intensive it becomes. As such, it is best used in short bursts or localized to specific parts of the body.
Support Technique || MAX Power
You may opt to increase all techniques by 10%. This prevents you from using evasive techniques, escapes, and blocking escapes. You will be unable to gain any momentum during this effect, but the effects of Turtle School Secrets prevent the usual momentum drain. If you run out of MP while using MAX Power, you lose its effects immediately and can not gain any MP on your next turn. You may only deactivate MAX Power at the conclusion of your turn.
STARTING LOADOUT: I'll be converting all my XP into PL.
