The increasing frequency of Norio's projects taking her into the field could be directly linked to the distressing extent to which her two newest understudies were ramping up the belligerent rivalry that very definitely had nothing to do with any unspoken attraction between the two of them. Norio had never before met any two people that just needed to kiss and get it over and done with. Alas, until that day arrived, Norio was left to escape the ongoing romcom by any means necessary. Kaidon was perfectly capable of holding the fort until she returned. Heck, her partner was on the edge of his seat waiting for the next exciting development.
Thinking of him, a fond smile crossed Norio's face. Wonderful, sentimental man.
A shrill beep from the device in her hand startled her from her thoughts, and Norio took a moment to recentre herself before checking on the readings. She hadn't come out to the bluffs to daydream about office relations.
One of the natural disasters that had ravaged the planet Sadala was volcanic eruptions. To prevent and perhaps even reverse that devastation, saiyan science first needed to understand it, and in lieu of a foolhardy expedition to an unstable planet, the geothermal vents of Plant were the best available option for research.
Hence, here Norio was, out in a valley in the middle of nowhere. Surrounding her was a haze of steam from the numerous vents dotted around the area, each of them pushing up out of the ground like insect burrows. Heat rose from a nearby pool, though the lurid colour dissuaded any thoughts of taking a dip. Nestled deep within the bluffs, the location was almost like one big hole, the valley floor ringed entirely by an overhanging rock face. Without flying, the area was difficult to access, though not insurmountable, if one did not mind the hike.
Her device pinged peevishly at her. Norio frowned at it, adjusting a knob to placate it. She was getting some useful readings on the temperature and the topography of the underground system, but the instrument was capricious and demanded constant tuning.
It didn't matter. She'd endure far worse than temperamental equipment, to reach her goals.
