Jackie had only thoughts on what Moire mulled over. The girl herself only had maybe a decade or so to mull over the worst aspects of herself; vengeance, no matter the cost to herself. Self-destruction for a life she had lost long ago. In her own mind, and what she'd hoped would be the case for many others, would be that no matter the length of time this took place that hurt was hurt. In her experience, spreading that misery usually came from the same point. Some wrong of the past. It's not excusing the actions of the past, especially in the case of Moire who seemed to have actually gone through with a few of these bad thoughts, but an explanation and acceptance of it.
The fact Jackie stopped herself before she went and did something drastic multiple times, she counts herself lucky. Not many had the luxury and time to sit back and force themselves to reflect.
"Sometimes it's the least I can do. I still sometimes struggle with rage and outbursts, and I used to be on that sort of vengeful path myself. I know that feeling. It's all too easy to get lost in." Jackie smiles back at Moire, maintaining a silent, admiring eye contact with her for the fleeting moment. Before a waiter came by with their choice food; Corndogs, cokes, and funnel cakes for each of them. All set upon a single large platter. Along with the usual utensils set aside with napkins and a tin of powdered sugar to coat over anything they wanted, should they have a sweet tooth even mightier than thou. Jackie leans back in her seat and shifts into a grin, watching Moire's reaction to the sudden sweet aromas.

Jackie responds to Moire laying out a portion of her internal thoughts by explaining to her that she too had experienced thoughts similar to her. Perhaps not to the same degree, especially considering the majin's rather ambitious goals in her mind, and that there was still that lingering hatred that has wedged itself into the back of her mind, but still, it was something that she could relate with the Earthling to. She felt Jackie's gaze on her, and Moire met back to her eyes, a soft smile appearing on the majin's face. For that moment, it felt as if time itself was slowing down, though for what reason Moire doesn't entirely know. She just couldn't look away, no matter what she did to try to break contact, but... Did she want to?
The waiter's arrival breaks the eye contact, and Moire looks down at the delectable food placed in front of them, the majin immediately taking in the sweet smells and aroma of the funnel cakes in particular. Now she couldn't look away from such a delicious looking treat, and Moire didn't hesitate to start tearing into it, tearing off a piece at a time and eating it up. Moire had lost track of her surroundings as all of her focus was on the food in front of her, not caring how she looked as she took more and more, though staying just conscious enough to make sure that Jackie had her own fair share of the meal as she silently devoured her food.
Jackie wasn't sure what she was feeling when Moire stared back into her. The gaze of the majin was somewhat alien; much unlike her bright whites, the magic being had an unusual sclera. Yet, it was all the same a window into the soul. A darker, more ancient soul. It was far enough to be unsettling to most. But the kami could see past surface appearances, and something there hooked into her as they traded this eye contact. A different kind of burning. It was something she didn't feel for most, and it got her questioning a LOT that this was happening for Moire.
Was she right to assume this had some ulterior motive?
"Ahh, thank you!" The waiter would break apart the two's little foray into unknown territory and dish out a helpful serving of their food; There was plenty of Jackie to have while not impeding the insatiable hunger Moire seemed to have for the sweets. The Earthling had no such need to devour her food. Just smiling and watching Moire while picking out her own pieces of funnel cake and corndog. The place wasn't exactly high class anyways. Manners be damned, Saiyans probably still had a bigger, messier appetite anyways. None of this bothered Jackie. She could tell the majin was liking the food without needing to ask.
"You ever try picking up a hobby? Maybe something relaxing, to get your mind off the bad of your past?" She mindlessly asked after she tore into her corndog. Careful to remain clean with a handful of napkins. "See, when I'm trying to not die from worrying about Earth or training, I like turning on a videogame. I know, nerd stuff, but something like tht really does help take your mind off things. It helps controlling yourself when your mind isn't left to think about it constantly."

Despite trying to shake these sorts of thoughts out of her mind, Moire couldn't get the image of Jackie's eyes out of her head. She didn't know if that was just another effect of the Earthling's ability to speak into her mind, but... This was different, somehow. She didn't know what this was, but... Perhaps soon she'll be able to find out for herself. For now, however, Moire's true focus was on the food that had been delivered to the two, food that Moire was more than looking forward to devouring. The Earthlings can look at her all they like, they've been able to since she was a majin and stuck out plenty already, she didn't care.
as she stained her mouth with bits and crumbs and such, she looks back up to Jackie as she poses a question to the majin, stopping in the middle of devouring another piece of the funnel cake that had been brought to them. "Well... I have always been very interested in the magical arts. I'm a bit curious to see if there is any such knowledge that someone, or more specifically, something, can really provide. Plus, despite my time being short on this planet... The wilds are quite a sight to behold." Moire pauses for a moment, chewing more on her funnel cake before her brow raises a bit. "... What's a videogame?"

Jackie has SOME faint recollection of being told she liked studying magic, but it was never confirmed just how much she liked indulging in the art. In that way, Jackie probably wasn't that different. She also picked up scraps of magic, techniques, and the like between lookout ruins she could find and the ruins of her old village temple. Jackie could understand that part. And what she should have been expecting was the majin having ZERO clue what a video game was.
"Wait, you never?... Right, eh. Have you ever watched a movie? Or anything like that? Just, sitting down and viewing someone's art, in a way. Instead, you like... directly interact with it and influence what it does. The whole idea is a bit hard to explain if you've seen nothing like it." She struggled to articulate this on her own, waving a corndog around like it was going to fix her sense of direction at all. She'd hesitate a moment, and just take another bite of it as she thought. Waiting until she finished half the dog before washing it down with a drink and chuckling.
"Think I'll just have to show you sometime. If you are curious, that is. Wouldn't wanna assume anything just by offering to go out and share more of the world with ya." It was something she settled on as being rather inoffensive. And gave the pair perhaps a way to bridge beyond lunches.

Jackie seemed rather surprised that Moire hadn't heard of video games, as if they were these common things to have around wherever one went. She went on about being rather interactive, moreso than these 'movies' that she refers to, something that Moire didn't know of either, only raising even further confusion within the majin. She's seen a place called a movie theater, but she didn't know what that entailed, nor what a movie actually was. "... I'm... Not quite sure what a movie is. I think I've seen things called movie theaters in my travels, but... I never bothered to investigate." Following the corndog around didn't exactly help with her understanding of the subject, either.
Jackie then offers to show Moire what exactly a video game even is, and potentially what a movie is as well. Moire finishes off more and more of the food on the table before focusing back in on the Earthling, nodding at her offering. "I suppose it isn't too bad of an idea. If I plan on staying here for some time, then perhaps I should learn more about what this world is all about, especially since all of this talk about videogames and movies seems to have quite the importance in this world. My knowledge on this planet's culture has been rather... surface level for the longest time. Even before arriving, I only look at it far from a lens, never personally interacting with the inhabitants. It's a far different experience being here in the flesh than just watching."
The Majin pushes the rest of her dishes forward, done with the meal as she leans back into her seat, taking one of the napkins nearby and cleaning her dirty mouth up. "Jackie, I must thank you again for this meal you've provided. I would offer compensation, but I'm afraid the only currency I could offer..." The majin snaps her fingers, and a stack of zeni suddenly appears in her hand. "... Is counterfeit, really."
"It's... worse than I thought!" Jackie let out an exaggerated gasp at the news that Moire just hasn't experienced a movie either. Or tried. Too nervous about being seen in public as she was, it only made sense, but this was disheartening to hear. Even the strangest of creatures partook in media from time to time from their own planets or realms. She finishes her corndog and just points at the window outside. It was aimed at nothing in particular, but it probably just meant they were 'going out' if their next words tied to it.
"Please, I don't need your material stuff. Real or not. I just wanna make sure ya know about us and our home, and well, movies are part of that! As is martial arts, spiritualism... A lot of things. A lot of us don't partake in all of that, either, it's more... broad. There are many different way to live here on Earth." She clears her throat, jabbing her finger at the outside again. "We're going to see a movie too, it's decided. Nothing you can say will get you out of it either, girl. So enjoy your meal."
It was a funny little demand she wore a smirk with, setting whatever scraps she had aside and watching Moire for a long moment, wondering how much she ate or if she wanted more. All the same, she already knew exactly what they should watch too; That new King Oozaru film.

Moire's ignorance on the subject of movies and videogames only seems to make Jackie more and more concerned about the majin's lack of knowledge for earthling culture. She follows Jackie's finger out towards the window, not entirely sure what it was that she was pointing at until the earthling speaks up, mentioning that she has no need of anything in regards to the counterfeit zeni or anything along those lines, being satisfied enough with instead sharing these earthly experiences with the majin. Moire could have almost anything she wants in the snap of her fingers, anything that Jackie could want, but... It was clear that nothing material would be as gratifying to Jackie as taking the majin out and showing off her culture and spiritualism.
The money soon evaporates into a small puff of purple smoke as the earthling mentions that the two of them are going to head on over to a movie theater, determined to show her movies. This fiery passion that she felt radiating from Jackie, this excitement to show everything to her, it was all so... bizzarre for Moire, but she didn't entirely mind that. The majin was quick to clean up the rest of their meals, and soon stood up from her seat, moving away from the table and replying, "You seem rather enthusiastic about all of this, Jackie. I believe I won't really fully understand until I witness what these movies can show. By all means, take me there."
Jackie didn't want to leave the majin hanging. Finishing up whatever was left on her plate and picking up the remains of their plates, she smirks and drops them off at the appropriate trash bins. The kind you dump the remains in and leave the trays to be picked up. Jackie preferred giving her all in everything she did, including enjoying life. Be it games or otherwise, it was just... something she grew into after coming to terms with herself. It was a path she felt she earned after reconciling her family's demise with her position as Kami and the last of her people.
"Of course. It's just a short hop and a skip away. Come on." Jackie goes to clean their hands off and sanitize them with a simple bottle of the stuff, procured from some apparent pocket dimension between her chest, before swiping for the majin's hand again. What started as a simple day out to eat would soon turn into Jackie showing the majin around to movies, shopping in the city malls, the whole nine yards for what remained of the afternoon. By the time either of them would realize they spent nearly half a day together, it was dark outside. The full moon greeting them outside one of many little trinket shops found near the central market.
Eventually, it'd come time to turn in... Jackie still wasn't sure how to feel about losing track of time like that with the majin. Being this caught off, she stiffens at the realization as she looked to the moon. The moody lights around them now filling the streets.
"Ahhh... Crap, I didn't think I'd be taking your whole day." She made it sound like a bad thing, a little frown to herself shot up to the skies. "You're not mad, are ya?"

With the table cleaned up and their trash all taken care if, it was time for the two of them to head on out and for Moire to see what exactly is all of the fuss about these movies. Jackie promises to the majin that it's a short distance away from the spot they're at, and after pulling out some sort of sanitizer from seemingly nowhere, cleans off both her hands as well as Moire's. The majin rubs her hands with the sanitizer, keeping it nice and clean before heading right on out with Jackie, the two going to see the movies. At least, that's how this all started, but afterwards, it was very clear to both of them that there was far more to explore for the remainder of the day.
It was the movies at first, then it was shopping at the mall, followed by exploring the city and spotting all sorts of various different attractions. Moire stood with Jackie through it all, not bothering to take her leave at all as they spent the rest of the day with each other. Even the majin barely noticed the time flying past them as they walk out on the streets. Moire herself was staring right up at the moon, the light shining down on her body as Jackie asks if the majin was mad about wasting all of this time. One of her eyes looks right at Jackie, silently watching before she replies, "Mad? Is there a particular reason for why I would be mad? If anything, shouldn't you be the one mad?"
Moire turns to face Jackie once more, giving a soft smile back before continuing, "I'm well over two hundred years old now, and I have many a millennia ahead of my life. Time is... Well, it holds little relevance to me. But yours is far more limited, more precious, and yet you used it because I was too ignorant on human culture. So... No, I'm not mad. Not at all, Jackie, and I have a feeling you aren't either."
It took a day. A day with her, Moire, to get her to understand at least something about the experience and time spent. As 'little' as it may seem to someone as long lived, the majin was already recognizing that it was Jackie whose life was short. Every hour worth the world. It might not have been clear to the majin herself yet that easing her into this all would have her turn out like this, but hearing the words... Jackie looks down, back at Moire, with a smile. Completely washing away any sense of guilt she might have had stringing her along for all of this.
"You're right... I didn't really regret any part of today. In fact, I had a little fun with it. I don't get to go out and hang with anyone all too often, makes those precious hours worth it. You get that already." It was a bit cheesy, as the two were walking hand in hand. She couldn't even comprehend the underlying subtext there with a majin of all things. WAS she being too nice with the woman?
"All of our lives, regardless of age and time spent, matter. They are all precious. The least I could do is make sure you enjoy it while learnin'. Did I... soften ya up to Earth? Or was this boring?"
Post by Majin Moire on Mar 9, 2024 11:34:08 GMT -5
The two once again look at each other, Jackie's smile a bit wider than Moire's as she expresses her relief, telling her how she had a bit of fun hanging around with somebody as relatively ancient as Moire. The majin can't exactly imagine Jackie of all people coming across that many other earthlings who haven't heard of movies and such, so this was quite the unique opportunity for her. The two continue to walk, Jackie and Moire still holding onto each other's hands, the majin completely forgetting about how strange it felt at first.
Jackie then asked Moire if she managed to soften the majin up to Earth at all. For this, Moire had to ponder for quite a bit, looking back in time, back to when she still lived in the Land of the Kais, looking at what she was able to see from back then, her initial landing on Earth, the alleys she always hid in, and now, her most recent experience with Jackie. "You've helped me see the good that this planet has to offer for individuals like myself. For some time I've only been able to linger in the dark and dank recesses of the planet, only interacting with equally deplorable beings, but now I see there's more to it. For that, Jackie, I have to thank you once more. I... May still need some time to adjust to these feelings, but... Thank you."
Jackie wasn't there to push anything past letting the woman experience. It was what she was apparently missing, and she was taking to it better than Jackie could honestly hope for with most foreign life. Even some aliens knew at least the basics of Earth. or had similar enough deals on their own planets to conversely 'get' the experience without being there firsthand. Jackie nods and gives the busy night streets another look before eyes focused to the skies.
"That's fine. Totally fine. I can't pretend to understand acclimating to a whole culture.-" Only kind of true. She was once a kid who had to do just that. But it was hardly relevant. "With any luck, you'll wanna come out and enjoy things like the food and movies on your own time. Or with whoever. Live how you want and all. Each one of us tries to get by doing that." That was the big part there. Every little person, no matter how weak or frail, was another experience being lived. She walked mindlessly with Moire for a little while longer before realizing the time once again.
"I can leave ya to it then! Or did you need me to take ya to one of my stakeouts nearby? I could use a bit of break myself..."
Post by Majin Moire on Mar 11, 2024 17:27:58 GMT -5
Jackie was understanding enough, knowing that to get used to an entire culture would take up some time, and if anything, this was only one of many to be found on Earth. The people of the tribes out in the wilderness operated quite differently from those here in the city, and Moire didn't even know if people acted similarly in other cities. It'll take time, but time is something she has plenty of, and it seems like Jackie wouldn't mind spending some of her limited time with the majin. It felt... Comforting, hearing that.
Then the earthling offered to take Moire over towards one of her stakeouts closeby. It was an offer she was quite hesitant on taking with Jackie before, back when she was quite fearful of Jackie's power, and her ability to just wipe Moire out right then and there if she stepped too far out of line. Now, however, there wasn't any sort of debate in her mind. She could put some faith into Jackie, especially since she put faith into the majin herself. "Your stakeout? I certainly wouldn't completely mind going to one of them. How far is the nearest one from the city, if I may ask?"
"Of course. Beats trying to find a place yourself, right?" Jackie could only assume, nodding and gesturing with a flippant hand in the air, towards the skies. "And, ehh, it's somewhere out there. Low profile and the like. Shouldn't be but a couple minutes by air." What she meant by 'low profile' and 'somewhere' was a tiny bit factitious. It would be a few moments, since the sun was set and twilight was over the city already. For them? They could get back under the sun in minutes if they pushed it. Instantly if kami willed it.
Yeah, it was the lookout. She had been working on it after all, it should be presentable enough. She turns and grabs the hand she was holding with both of them as she suddenly stopped on the sidewalk. Looking at Moire with a grin.
"Just hold on a moment. Trust me." If all went accordingly, Moire would feel warmth wrap around the pair, just before a sudden light from above poured down on them. A pillar made from Jackie's own affinity for the sun engulfs the pair for a split moment, flooding both of their vision with white and orange for just a moment. Neither would feel the motion of shifting from place to place, as it was more an instantaneous act of placing them within arm's reach of the temple set atop the lookout, halfway reconstructed at this point.
If she was unused to this teleportation, it was only then that Moire would maybe get thrown off. A sense of equilibrium in their ears shaken for a second.
"... Here!" The inside of the temple was more complete than out, and it was quick work to show living quarters. What happened past that was up to them.
