No way to change it? Really? A style entirely set in stone sounded funny to Xiaolan who was used to the versatility of the Way of the Void that was created to be a swiss army knife able to tackle the direst of predicaments, but maybe Chomei's whole style was centered around the explosive release of brute strength? If it was the case, then the Dragon Master's reticence toward the transformation of his techniques into something new would have made more sense to the kitsune.
"He's fast..." Xiaolan thought to himself, finding Chomei's reaction speed admirable. Well, the kitsune did herald his attack quite audibly before carrying it out but, still, most folk would have been caught flat-footed by the combination of lightning fast finger strikes delivered from a dead angle thanks to some portal magic. Not only that, but something definitely changed about Chomei. Was it his power or he just started to get serious? Xiaolan could honestly not tell. He would find out soon enough, however.
Xiaolan's impetus was grinded to a halt against Chomei's body, almost as if his soft, pliable skin turned into an immovable boulder. Whatever strikes didn't nail his body were caught with the flat of his hand in a quasi-dismissive manner; Xiaolan furrowed his brow, knowing well that his opponent had changed. Realizing that this was no funny sparring session anymore, the mirth that was visible throughout the kitsune's body faded away to be replaced with a lingering feeling of apprehension.
"Grrrr..." Xiaolan's body felt incredibly stiff due to the newfound wave of stress sweeping across his nerve endings. Was Xiaolan afraid of his opponent? Not quite, but he was definitely wary of whatever Chomei had in store for him.
Speaking of the devil, Chomei charged his opponent, weaving together a flurry of blows that Xiaolan deflected with sweeping motions from his forearms while trying to duck whenever he could afford it. His endeavor to preserve his physical integrity was partially successful; Chomei's strikes were faster AND heavier than a few seconds ago, resulting in a few glancing hits peeling off stripes of changpao fabric and loose tufts of white fur. If this kept going, the fox was definitely going to get a few cuts. In an attempt to get out of harm's way, Xiaolan suddenly dashed forward to vault himself over Chomei by jumping up and smacking his head with a two-handed palm thrust.
