It was finally time! Chomei paced eagerly as the dawn sun rose steadily to the east, shining dimly through screen doors which led into his mighty establishment. He’d been a pest to these villagers the past few weeks, having gotten up much earlier than even they. But now… the ceaseless days and nights of hammering and sawing had come to a close. It’d been a difficult thing, and if not for his previous job, he doubted he’d have had the connections to gather up all the nessecary material. He needed a lot to build a frame sturdy enough to withstand a few beginners using the Dragon Style.
The sun shone more bright, and he finally opened the doors, an eager grin plastered broadly across his face. He strode onto the deck, over to a signpost he’d rammed into the ground. There, he hung a green banner which flapped proudly in the wind. On it was one word… Open. He stared at it proudly. Finally, finished…
He stood there for a while before heading back inside. A sense of accomplishment filled him; A feeling that he’d done something momentous. Another thread woven into his life’s tapestry. Maybe now he could right and properly move on—Maybe make something out of his strange life. He’d build a legacy that Yome could be proud of.
…Now, we wait, He said silently, eagerly. Some of the younger villagers had known that he was nearly done—They checked on him often, their parents sending them with gifts every little while. Maybe they’d be his first students? He wondered. Back when he’d first arrived out here, he’d discovered a strange sentient dinosaur which terrorized the people. He’d sorted that out pretty quickly, and the folks seemed grateful to him.
He sat there, waiting. And as the sun moved towards the afternoon sky, he waited. He exercised to pass the time, testing his dojos structure. It seemed able to withstand his limited movements… And still, he waited. Evening came, and night followed… and wait, he did. It became quickly apparent to him that he might be waiting a long time.
The next day he went out early, not wanting to sit around. He helped a farmer carry his crops into the village square—Moved on to Lady Teef’s Inn and gathered a mountain of firewood for her (and the rest of the village). An old man was fishing all on his lonesome by the great lake, and so Chomei lept in and dropped a handful of fish into his lap. They didn't seem to appreciate that... Days passed, people passed, congratulated him even! But no one seemed interested...
Yet… it was all he could do. He would go practice his forms, help out where he could, and wait. Surely… someone would show up soon?
