The smell of sulfur and corroding minerals still hung in the air, even this far from the acidic lake. It was a putrid smell, definitely helps put off settlers in this area. That is, if you were willing to overlook the strange, and equally deadly saibabeasts that made their home for miles around. The land was lush with vegetation, large trees, easily mistaken for a veritable oasis in the vast wasteland that surrounded it. Greenery dotted the otherwise craggy landscape for a fair swath of the land here- for these were the spawning grounds. It was like wading through a mine field, one could never be truly certain if they were stepping over a slumbering saiba creature, it's clutch, or over safe terrain. That is, not without a means to detect them- such as a scouter. Granted, it was far from perfect, as Vennel could easily tell you: lower power levels don't always get picked up until it's too late, but at least you can avoid patches of slumbering subterranean saiba beasts.
Vennel tapped her scouter once more, it beeped as it scanned the immediate vicinity, illuminating a number of underground hostiles. She took a mental note and avoided the area, at least for now. Might be worth knowing in the future, she reasoned. They weren't individually strong, but there was a good number of them and their combined power could pose a danger. Ordinarily she might be willing to wake them up for a fight, but she was specifically looking for food to bring back to camp that she and Vocado had set up nearby. They needed some rest after the excitement back in the ruined citadel, what with the armored tuffle that put up such a good fight. "I hope the rest of the tuffles are as entertaining to fight," she mused to herself as she kept her eyes pealed for readings large enough to be worth her time. Her logic was based on the idea that bigger meant stronger, so a larger power should in theory equate to a larger beast. It'd certainly save time if she bagged one beast than having to bag several smaller ones.
Vocado never said the trip they were taking would be easy, but it certainly had it's fair share of excitement. It certainly beat just traipsing through the wilds aimlessly looking for something worth reporting. Maybe when she came back to the capital as some sort of war hero, she'd see about getting a transfer to work with Vocado some more. He was good in a fight, and he didn't die, which was a great sign that working together might be beneficial, what with most of her team mates meeting their ends when working with her and all.
At any rate, she wasn't going to get anywhere with her mind drifting like this. Her stomach was growling and food was greatly needed, so she set out to find herself some dinner. And besides, she was out here in a dangerous land- danger lurked around every corner, who knows what might happen?
