Their previous conversation had left her with much to think about. He had a point, the doctor had made her position quite clear on the matter, and the young woman wasn't worried about a sudden change of heart either. Yet, that wasn't enough to make her worries vanish, far from it. Although she could come across as quite naïve– and sometimes was!– she was well aware how dishonest greed could make people, whether it be Earth or even her own homeworld. And there was no telling to what length one could do in the pursuit of money. Sure, she wasn't so cynical she'd expect her colleague to act in such a terrible way, yet, the though was there, still lingering. Making itself known just enough to be cause for concern.
Perhaps she would be well advised to go talk to the Dr. Kelp about it, let her know her feelings in no uncertain way, but also try not to paint said colleague in too an unfavorable light. Yes, now that was a sound plan. Right?
Mindlessly switching between a handful of channels, Meringue couldn't settle on one program ; it was after all the peak hour for lowbrow entertainment, just after diner. And to no one's surprise, showrunners knew exactly how to milk it for all that it was worth. It was funny to think about how different it was from home, where televised content was much more focused on education and well, let's be honest, propaganda. Sure, they also had some forms of entertainment, but at the end of the day, pointless distraction were strongly frowned up, no matter what–once again, propaganda took care of getting the point across.
It had been quite the culture shock the first time she took interest in Earthling television and movie culture, not expecting that amount of... self-indulgence? She had come to learn that not everything had to exist for the sake of a greater purpose, and that sometimes, a piece of media or information had value simply by virtue of existing. An idea she had taken to heart at that time, easing her mind just enough to help her feeling more comfortable about her presence here, even if only for a time.
And even with her eyes closed, Wryce's sudden appearance was quite hard to miss, as the weight on the sofa shifted and a mass of wet hair fell on her shoulder–drawing a miffed yelp from the alien. « Noooo don't— » Pushing him away slightly, with an amused chuckle this time, she was quick to retaliate. « Well, you were taking your sweet time in the shower, I figured I could an idea of what's available. » Now settling back on the couch more comfortably, her tail still curled on her lap, she grabbed the remote once more, observing him from the corner of her eye. « I forgot, actually. But now that you're talking about it, you could rectify that, hm? » Cheeky for sure, and the bright smile she added wasn't helping her case. « We have quite the selection tonight. A cooking show that's definitely not rigged, two dating shows where everyone is hiding something and even, huh. An hairstyling competition with more drama than gossiping old ladies could handle. » All of these sounded dreadful to say the least, and that was exactly what made her so fascinated about them.
« I'll be honest, I don't really want to see more food right now, so I'll pass the cooking one. » A brief pause, her eyebrows raised in askance. « What's your pick? » Oh how she burdened him with such herculean tasks! First the barbecue, then the popcorn, and now the choice of tv show? Poor, poor Wryce, really.
« Do you think they make martial arts reality shows? How would that even work? » Just like that, her mind had already wandered miles away, the question begging for an answer right now and then. Or in five minutes, as she had finally decided to be a good girlfriend, and take some responsibilities off of his shoulders. « I'll let you think about that, and what we're going to watch, and I'll take care of the popcorn, alright? » With a smile sweet as ever, she made a beeline to the kitchen, humming a tune she heard in a commercial previously.
Finding the corn kernels was rather easy, since she had the foresight to put it in an easy to reach place. The popcorn machine, on the other hand, took a few minutes of her cursing under her breath, forced to shuffle through her still growing collection of small kitchen appliances, her current new obsession. But could anyone really blame her for buying three different ice shaver when they were shaped like cute animals? No one, unless they were heartless.
Still, coming out of that ordeal with resounding success, she quickly set up everything, before going back to the living room. « So, do you feel like sweet or savory popcorn tonight? » The most important inquiry, really. And don't be fooled, Meringue had not forgotten about the matter of the martial arts show, and was absolutely set on getting an answer from him, whatever it would be.
« Oh yeah. Do you think we could get lunch together tomorrow? It has been a while. » Well, she did almost forgot that. Better late than never, or something like that, right?ooc: yeet
