The people themselves should have the rights. Saiba had put it perfectly, and yet, it struck a chord within Celerous. Because didn't the people have the right to know that they were safe? Is that not what the government's accords accomplished: ensuring that the people of the world knew who could potentially harm them? It was like repeat offenders having a public criminal record, free for all to access. Yet, at the same time, people who had done nothing were going to end up tracked over something as simple as having a higher battle power. Their privacy may as well have been nonexistent, because they'd be on the government's list for the rest of their lives.
Like he'd said earlier, Celerous didn't have the right answer to this moral dilemma. But he did believe that the punishment should come after the crime. That you were innocent until proven guilty. Putting a collar around someone before they did anything wrong with their power... it seemed wrong.
"His name was Kamae. Kamae Ghoun," Celerous said quietly, as he looked out at the blue sky, "oddly enough he was a pleasant enough fellow, once we got past our philosophical disagreement. I even had lunch with him. But... he doesn't exactly hold a sanctity for life, and his experiments seem like they should be conducted in secure environment, not where someone could accidentally walk into them. If I were a regular Earthling, I'd have died."
Demon or not, god or not, a scientist had a responsibility to society: to conduct their experiments for the betterment of the people. And to conduct them responsibly, and safely. Intelligent though Kamae was, he had utterly failed in those aspects. The only reason Celerous was still upright was because, like Saiba said, he was strong. Well, at least compared to most people. There were others out there that made him look like a toddler just learning to walk. Others who were capable of so much that it made him shiver, just thinking about it.
Dammit. He was really starting to agree with the necessity of the accords.
"I don't know. It seems hypocritical of me to want to report someone, when I don't want to sign the accords myself." Celerous sighed, "No, I'll do it. The more I think about it, the more I understand why the accords exist. Even if I don't like the breach of privacy... the idea of someone like Kamae running around, without anyone knowing, scares the hell out of me."
