That crazed smile on Terryn's face faded away in an instant.

His strike had been caught, and Terryn immediately realized the folly of his counter-attack. The Earthling had already connected the dots to the secret of Dosu's power; It was pain. The more pain the Heran received, the stronger he became. Instead of attempting to subdue the Heran with a simple choke-hold, he struck back in a panic.

...And Dosu grew even stronger as a result.

"KHh-Khaaa-AAH!" Terryn groaned out in pain, feeling his wrist twist right up to it's breaking point. His entire arm and upper body were forced to twist with the motion of his wrist, lest the joint snap to render his arm completely useless.

The Earthling's breathing hissed out through his teeth, glaring eyes flickering towards Dosu in what could only be described as an adrenaline-fueled panic. The precarious position he found himself in left Terryn completely defenseless, unable to do anything but brace himself for the fiery impact of his own technique.

It crashed into his face with reckless abandon; Blood and spit flew outward as Terryn's head jolted back with the force of the blow. The pain was nauseating, and the ever-increasing taste of blood that flooded his mouth and throat was enough to make any man throw up.

'Have to...break this hold...!'

With a violent hiss, Terryn suddenly reached out toward Dosu's hand with his free arm. In a single, quick motion, Terryn aimed to wrap his hand around Dosu's thumb and ruthlessly twist it backwards, hoping to snap the joint.

Terryn quickly backed away, hurriedly scurrying in an attempt to gain distance from the Heran. As long as he could anticipate his attacks, he could counter accordingly...!

As he backed away, Terryn desperately tried to regain control of his breathing; He felt his composure falter. Between the nauseating pain, the taste of blood, and the sheer danger of the situation, it became increasingly difficult for Terryn to focus.

Panting loudly, Terryn raised his guard, and waited...

Terryn receives the Scorch Strike in full, taking 31% damage!

He attempts to snap Dosu's thumb to break the hold, before quickly scurrying away to create distance.

The attack connected; the tides had begun to turn in his favor. The earthling must have been feeling the pressure now, meaning Dosu had to press his advantage. However, Terryn had not said his last words as he proceeded to snap the Heran’s thumb backward in a single, quick motion, forcing him to let go of his hold on his fist.

Heat of battle new PL: 55’000

Looking at the bent thumb, he did not wait very long to grab it in turn, resetting it back in place. A sharp pain ran through his entire arm for the second time, causing yet another surge of adrenaline, numbing it almost instantly. The finger had already swollen and moving it would prove to be both difficult and painful. He could still form a fist, but all actions regarding grabbing would become harder and thus, less reliable.

Heat of battle new PL: 60’000

With his entire face painted red and blood still dripping from his mouth, Dosu charged once more with renewed vigor, initiating a combination of strikes aimed at vital spots in his body, but this time adding feints into the mix. Faking out a punch to the liver, he’d stop mid-swing to kick with his leg on the opposed side of his body to the kidney of his opponent.

While an intensely painful and gut-wrenching sight, Terryn wasn't surprised in the slightest to see the Heran force his thumb back into position. His tongue clicked against the roof of his mouth as he tightened his guard further, figuring that the undeniable surge of pain likely increased his strength further.

With nothing but determination and adrenaline pushing him forth, Terryn ingrained himself into the soil once again and prepared for Dosu's onslaught. Sure enough, the speed of his movement and strikes had increased once again. With every passing second, Terryn could rely less and less on his superior speed to counter Dosu's aggression.

Terryn forced his body into an intensely low guard, allowing most of the incoming strikes to crash into his forearms to dampen the blows. While pain coursed through Terryn's arms, it was much more bearable than having to face the sharp, excrutating pain of taking the Heran's blows head-on.

Wide eyes followed the supposed liver blow as it came careening forth, only to be held back at the last possible second.

'...!' Terryn recognized the feint, and it was only a mere calculated guess that lead Terryn to instinctively throw his entire upper body backwards. A debilitating kick aimed at his kidneys flew over Terryn with only mere millimeters to waste.

Whether it was insight or pure luck...It didn't matter - Terryn had to strike back, now!

With a lively grunt, Terryn pressed the palms of his hands onto the ground below him and lifted his lower body off the ground. Transitioning onto a single palm, Terryn spun vigorously as his leg rocketed outwards. A trail of flame followed his feet as they spun toward the Heran's face.

Deep down, Terryn hoped this would put an end to Dosu's onslaught.

However... He knew it wouldn't be so simple.

Terryn only barely dodges the kick, and retaliates with a [Light]Scorch Strike! 32,000 damage incoming!

No matter how strong he would become, Terryn always remained a step ahead of him, blocking each of his attacks. Even his feint, the first one he used in the entire fight, was dodged, albeit barely by the fiery fighter. He needed to revise his strategy and although relying on his traditional martial arts proved to be a bit less effective than the raw strength he displayed, he still had many tools at his disposal.

‘Maybe I should use that…’, the Heran thought to himself. However, he would have no time to use that as his opponent was already pressing the offensive, using a deft move that allowed him to use the momentum from his fall to deliver a powerful spinning kick, flames erupting from the man as he delivered the attack.

This one, Dosu saw coming. Still, he took it head-on, the shock making him step back, forcing him to dig his heels into the ground to avoid being sent flying. At this point, he couldn’t get any bloodier. The damage, however, was very real and made his brain rattle in his skull, the pain subsiding to leave room for a wave of euphoria. Grabbing Terryn’s leg while he was still in mid-air, he turned his heel sharply to rotate his body, dragging the body of the fighter in order to slam him on the ground face first. Following in his movement, he’d drop an elbow right in the middle of the Earthling’s spine. Avoiding potential danger, he immediately stepped back, assuming a fighting stance once more.

Even though his blow impacted cleanly, Terryn hadn't the slightest moment to utilize the time his kick had given him; Frankly, there simply was no time. The sheer fact that Dosu felt no pain seemingly caused the Heran to forego any and all staggering. He was like an unstoppable force - The only way to bring him down was to break him completely.

He felt the Heran's grip tighten around his ankle, and immediately feared the worst. Before Terryn knew it, his entire body was flung towards the ground with lethal force. Terryn tried deafening the blow by catching himself with his hands, yet to no avail.

His face slammed onto the hard soil with a disgusting slam that echoed outward. Terryn's very skull bounced off of the ground as he let out a weak, muffled yelp. There wasn't the slightest doubt in Terryn's mind... Dosu had gotten even stronger - And at this point, Terryn was unsure who the stronger between them was.

'Fuck! Fuckfuckfuck!!' He screamed at himself in thought, squirming and groaning under excrutiating pain as he tried to push himself off the ground. His arms trembled, and his entire body felt weighed down. Like the weight of an entire world was pressing down onto his back - Choking, suffocating...!

...

A blood-curdling scream suddenly erupted from Terryn. Dosu's elbow came down onto his spine like a bolt of lightning, shattering the very ground under him. An ungodly painful jolt blitzed through the entirety of the Earthling's body, and for a moment, he truly thought he was going to die.

His spine was only a few pounds of pressure away from shattering completely, surely killing the Earthling. Unfortunately, Terryn was still very much alive. Concscious, even. And he felt every last second of that excrutiating, unending pain.

Terryn looked down at his trembling hands, pooled in a puddle of blood, spit and tears. He breathed heavily, somehow, someway, still able to push himself onto his knees.

'...I'm going to die here.'

For the first time, that wasn't Terryn telling himself his life was about to end due to sheer panic. No - This time, he truly believed it through and through. He had failed to defeat Dosu quickly enough, and now...He couldn't be stopped anymore. There was simply no way...!

For a moment, Terryn forgot why he was here in the first place. Why he decided to become a fighter. Why he ever decided to be something more than what he was meant to be. After all...What was the point? He was a simple Earthling, thrust into a world so, so far out of his reach...

...It was aggravating. It was infuriating. It was disheartening...

It was enough.

"I'm so sick of this responsibility..." Terryn began to snarl in a low voice, slowly but surely pulling himself upward.

"...Feeling like I have to carry this entire planet on my back. The weight of millions of people leaning on me for their safety...! It's so heavy...So goddamn heavy..."

The Earthling breathed loudly, slowly shifting his weight onto his feet as he hunched forward.

"I'm sick of it...So, so sick of it...!"

He pulled himself to his full height, blood dripping from his fingers and chin.

"I don't care anymore. I don't care what happens...All I want is to BREAK YOU."

Terryn gazed over his shoulders, staring straight at Dosu with newfound vigor. His widened eyes were filled with controlled fury, and he bared his teeth at the Heran.

He felt so light, now. Casting away his burdens, even if for just a moment, made Terryn feel like a feather. The Earthling turned to face Dosu, his neck cracking loudly as he shifted into a threatening, low stance.

"I'm gonna fly now - Try and keep up."

Releasing his restraints, the flightless bird had regained it's wings.

Ridding himself of his burdens, Terryn gains control over his power.

On the verge of death, beasts would often struggle, whimper or claw their way out of the situation. It was them following their instincts for survival. Good hunters knew not to let them suffer longer than they needed to, for there was no meaning in it. Sentient creatures had more varied reactions to the same scenario, some accepting it while others rejected it. No matter the scenario, it was never good to let a creature die from its wound. This was no merciful act on the hunter’s part, no. Excessive stress and post-mortem rigidity often made the meat harder to chew or impart a bad acidic taste to it. Carcasses also alerted nearby predators, either from the sound or the smell.

In this moment, Terryn very much looked like a beast drawing its last breath. As exhilarating as this battle was, it had to stop. Perhaps this was a lesson in humility for Dosu, who never had to fight such a strong individual before. Although he reigned over the wildlife at home, the world had many creatures that still throned above him in terms of strength. It made teachings he had previously brushed off as being useless even more valuable now.

As he approached to finish off his prey, he stopped in his tracks when he witnessed the Earthling getting back up from a fatal wound, with a strange newfound determination. There were a lot of words coming out of his mouth, a desire for carnage.

“You talk a lot. I just want to end this and be on my way.”

As the Earthling mentioned flying, Dosu became wary that he could use some unique form of magic, one generally associated with shamans or other esoteric persons. He had to be careful as well, since wounded beasts often were unpredictable. He charged in once more with a front kick to the gut, hoping to burst some organs.

OOC: Witnessing the strange power of Terryn with some weird apprehension. Then kicking the man's guts.

Terryn sucked in a calculated breath as he faced his enemy for what would be the final time. He felt light, weightless, in control. The previous tension and danger that inhibited his motions had been lost, cast away.

No thoughts, no feelings, no 'greater good', nothing. Just their battle.

Now, it was just him and Dosu. The rest of the world didn't exist anymore.

The Earthling took upon a controlled, neutral stance. With his weight evenly distributed, Terryn rose his guard and simply waited for Dosu to once again engage him with that same relentless aggression.

Dosu charged in with a fierce front kick, rammed forth with enough force to turn Terryn's intestines into mush. Yet that same dizzying force would be the Heran's downfall - As his move was hopelessly telegraphed.

"It's no use." Terryn responded calmly, reading Dosu's pattern as he ever-subtly shifted his weight onto his back-foot. "I can read your moves now."

With a snap of his forearm, and a slight change in position, Terryn swatted away the front kick whilst bringing up his own leg. Energy exploded from his heel, causing his foot to blast upward with explosive force. It was aimed straight at the Heran's chin once again - A concussive, heavy blow.

Slowly, Terryn brought his foot back down, exhaling calmly.

This was ending. Now.

Terryn counters Dosu's assault with his newly-achieved [Utility]Insight, before attacking with a [Light]Scorch Strike for 48,000 damage!

The kick would have turned his guts into mush had Terryn not deflected it. What struck the bloodied Heran with surprise was not that Terryn had dodged it -this had been done multiple times already-, it was the relative ease with which he performed the feat, something Dosu had not witnessed prior to this. Combined with his earlier words, he wondered if they were only mere boast or if he truly had that much strength up his sleeve left. His blow should’ve rendered the human paralyzed to the ground, yet he faced him with such determination and confidence. Truly a strange spectacle.

What’s more, he returned a comment Dosu had made earlier, saying he could see his attacks. ”Hmm?” was all he could say, before fiery energy propelled a kick to his chin, once again. At this point, and probably for the first time in this encounter, Dosu locked eyes with the human, this concerning the strength of his forcing him into switching for the techniques that had been ingrained in him since youth. He matched his breathing with Terryn’s, his body automatically adapting to the human’s rhythm, without ever looking away. Perfectly in sync, his expressionless face had this eerie feeling to it. And so, as the kick came towards him, he anchored his right foot into the ground, rotating his body ninety degrees. The kick only met air as the Heran dodged it, looking at his opponent’s eyes still. This weird calmness Dosu exhibited would probably remind Terryn of the own technique he had used to foresee the Heran’s attack, though subtle differences existed between the two techniques.

He, too, could see Terryn’s attack. In his state, however, fatigue was quickly piling up and for the first time in this entire fight, the blue behemoth felt the burden of his injuries. He couldn’t rely on strength alone to win. If he were to survive, he had to end it soon.

Wasting no time after his dodge, he lunged forward, delivering a quick one-two punch combo to the face and liver, hoping to create some distance. How could he force the Earthling to make a move? He remembered how he kept talking smack. Perhaps, if he could exploit that weakness?

Dosu dropped his guard as he stood in front of Terryn, arms opened as he almost welcomed him. “You won’t break anything here. You’re like a child that’s using moves he doesn’t understand. You are no hunter, much less a fighter.”

While he did not know how to properly provoke an opponent, he had hope this would trigger some sort of reaction in the human, at least one big enough to create an opening he could use.

OOC: Using [Light Defensive] Dead Calm to evade for 48 000 PL, matching the attack and evading it by just a hair! Attempting to provoke Terryn into attacking again.
