Pursuit of Knowledge

Kamae had been truly fixed on his reading, so much so he didn't notice when someone had approached. The demon's eyes looking up from his book as he heard a voice and he was met with a curious sight. A strange creature who appeared to be completely pink, her hair was curls of her own flesh and her eyes were a deep blue in a sea of black. Her attire befitted her appearance, appearing cute and matching her in more ways than one. She also seemed to possess a tail, which curled towards the end as well.

It was then that he became aware of more than just the girl, his eyes widening as he saw other creatures roaming around the table. They appeared to look like treats given animal form and walking about. His eyes held their surprise but for a moment before returning to the strange girl, her question returning to him as he calmed down from the initial shock.

"Er, this?"

Kamae asked, placing his thumb in the middle to keep his pack and nearly closing the book. He rotated it over to reveal the cover thats cover read "Election Laws and Regulations" on it. Its black cover making the front letters stand out to easily read. He would show her the cover a moment, giving her time to read it before returning the book to an open state.

"As for the food I don't rightly know. I am new here as well and... given my condition I cannot taste anyways."

Kamae stated, though he did gesture to his coffee sitting on the table. Its steam slowly rising from the white cup given the chill in the air thanks to the rain.

"But their coffee seems nice."

Kamae couldn't taste, feel or smell anything, he was a spirit that roamed after all. Without a physical body to possess, Kamae could not get the sensation from food or feel anything truthfully. Aye he could touch something and KNOW he was touching it given the pressure applied. But without true skin, and flesh, he could never truly experience it. His free hand went to the cups handle and took a drink from it.

"Why not sit, enjoy the view with me miss...?"

Kamae asked, nodding toward the empty chair across from him. He held a friendly smile, one he had been practicing for a while now. In truth he was rolling inside, hating being friendly with people. But he needed to learn to do so if he was going to win the hearts of people. To put on a smile that was as genuine as a real one, and he was getting quite proficient at that. Lying was his best weapon after all...

"Names Loki. A pleasure."

Kamae stated, conjuring up a book mark before setting his book down onto the table and pulling his bag that had been sitting close to the chair under the table to keep it safe. He would tip his hat to the girl, as he waited patiently for a response. The crack of thunder in the distance told the story that the rain wasn't planning to stop any time soon.

Kamae looked to the girl as she spoke, her cheerful nature making the encounter much easier to get along with. She was talkative which was a change of pace from the usual individuals who found taunting more fun. He simply smiled at her words of apology, not offended nor did he make a gesture to say as such. He was surprised that she would apologize for something she did not know, but then again Kamae supposed that was what they refer to as "being nice" or "polite" here.

"Its alright, No need to apologize for something you have no way of knowing."

Kamae stated,  as he crossed his legs and one hand on the table while the other in his lap. He took to examining her closely as she sat, observing her closely. Holes in the arms, no nose and the ears were not normal to any species. His study in Biology having come in handy on this world, he knew that her species did not develop here... wherever that may have been. If anything, he would wager she was a magical species, one created as she didn't follow the normal laws of science as far as he could tell on appearance alone... that and she had literal treats as pets or were the pets treats? A conundrum for later.

"Yes, I will agree that the rain is quite nice. I enjoy it for the noise it makes, and the sounds often times help sooth me when I am feeling frustrated. Surprising given its just water falling from the sky, but when viewed so simply I guess it sounds less interesting."

Kamae would keep his eyes half lidded, head still turned to the outskirts of the cafe while he looked at the girl from the corner of his eye. Her question should have surprised him, but her interest in his book prepared him for the question a head.

"I am studying to join the presidential election. I know it is a long ways off, but studying beforehand and having the knowledge ready when the time comes is always handy... I plan to run for office. I'd like to make a difference to this world, leave my mark and possibly help the people of this world."

His words were true, if their meaning was vague. He did want to leave his mark, but that mark was anything but good. He left the sentence hang, for only a brief moment before smiling happily.

"I've never run for a presidency before... I am quite nervous actually haha... I know that it is the people's vote and being at the mercy of others can be... quite frightening."

Kamae looked back to the girl full on then, his hand that was sitting on the table reaching for his coffee once more to take a drink. He kept his eyes on the table as he did so however, thinking of the future.

"What of you miss? You said your name was Patrona yes? What do you plan for the future?"

Kamae asked, deciding to move the topic from just his self. Conversation was best suited if both parties were involved after all. Kamae also could catch glances of the little creatures that were poking their heads out occasionally, or perhaps it was one. He had not seen them fully yet, and one looked to be anxious to go out into the rain. He placed a hand to his chin in thought then, as he considered that. A being who looked like it was made of food, but it wished to go into the rain where moisture would normally ruin food... So they must be able to withstand moisture... perhaps they were living beings like she was... More questions for later.

Kamae listened with full attention, his eyes watching her as she spoke of the rain, telling of how it was better to be prepared and such. She then spoke her species name, a majin. His mind making sure to remember their appearance and the name as best he could. She then made it known she could see his curiosity in her companions to which the demon simply gave a short chuckle before nodding slowly. How could one not be interested in things such as this? They were creatures he had never seen before, nor did they fall into any classification of any known creature besides dinosaurs... but their shape was all that was the same.

"Well.. yes and I apologize for my glances. I was a study of Xenology back in the day, studying biology and various other branches of science that involved animals, people and such. They defy almost all classifications when identifying a species, their quite fascinating. But don't worry I am not some crazed scientist who wants to... er... harm them is the polite way I'll phrase it. They are quite extraordinary."

Kamae stated taking another sip from his coffee as he glanced down at them.

"In Taxonomy, the way we classify a species, this individuals would almost seem... impossible. May I ask where you found them? And what does their diet consist of? I imagine they don't eat sweets given their... erm appearances."

Kamae was now full looking at them, eyeing their appearance form his seat but deciding that staring was rude, returned his gaze to Miss Patrona. While he had a bunch of questions, he didn't want to bombard her with them all at once. Truth be told he was interested in her as well, her species seeming to be completely foreign to him. But he wasn't going to give in to the desire to probe a young lady in a café about what she was. He had at least that amount of self control.

Kamae's attention was now gotten completely when she explained that not only were they naturally born, she had found them in her chicken enclosure. This meant that they had origins beyond this girl, and she was able to glimpse in visions of their mother. This made Kamae's eyes widen in absolute surprise, that they were natural born and that they were not created threw almost everything he knew about natural animals out the window... 

"I see... Remarkable!"

Kamae's praise was not fake, nor was it over exaggerated. He leaned forward slightly, tilting this way and that to look at them as they fit in her lap. This creatures truly were a marvel of science, and he smiled at their appearances. They certainly gave off a cute appearance, and it could have fooled Kamae into believing they were not a threat. A normal creature may find them less frightening and even approach out of curiosity but this mutation must be recent. 

"..."

Kamae continued to glance over the two in her lap and he began to hypothesize the creatures were not a long standing species. They must have been a recent adaptation given that through generations that adaptation would not always work on prey.... OR they had other traits that allowed them to pull prey in besides just appearances. Many theories were going through his mind, but his hypothesis would have to wait. His coffee was getting cold and so he went back to it for a sip.

"I believe they are a recent adaptation to their environment given that they seem unique. Perhaps something changed in their natural environments to give rise to this new strain of mutations... and Mutations I mean in the politest way possible."

Kamae would say tipping his hat in response, not wishing to offend the young ladies pets or herself by saying they were mutants. Some people didn't like that term, as he had come to realize over his travels. Many different views and opinions clashing over years after all.

"Truly marvelous. I believe they might well be the first species that has shocked me so... and I've seen Jelly fish that could mimic humanoid behaviors to open doors... Those are terrifying when you live in a sea base."

Kamae stated with a wink, drinking the final bits of his coffee before setting the cup down once more. He would gesture to the lone waitress as she was sweeping. Receiving a nod, she quickly came over before taking his cup only to be stopped and gesturing for her to take Miss Patrona's order.

"If you don't mind, put whatever she orders on my bill... Miss Patrona order whatever you will."

Kamae stated as he placed his hands in his lap, half lidden eyes looking over her pets. He dared not touch them, as he didn't know anything about them or let alone if they even liked people. He was also a demonic ghost who didn't possess a body, it was highly likely they would react adversely to him given he possessed no scent physically. Animals were want to act aggressively against something they could not comprehend or determine what it was.

Kamae waited patiently as the woman spoke, his eyes looking to the drowned straight outside. Water puddles having formed and tiny streams traveling along the road. The demon's golden eyes disappearing as he closed them, basking in the glow of the sounds of the rain. He was listening to Patrona as well, taking her words in as she said things in response to him. He was simply enjoying the moment, yet his smile faded slightly as he felt someone looking at him. The demon opening his eyes to look directly into the tiny animals eyes...

Its crimson eyes matching his yellow serpent ones, yet he maintained his smile as he did so. Yet he felt... slightly insulted by this dinosaur to dare look at him in such a way. But he could see intelligence behind those eyes, a cleverness concealed by an appearance meant to disarm. The two would exchange their looks as the girl spoke before she got Kamae's attention with a question. His eyes snapping back to her with a brighter smile and a simple nod.

"Of course miss Patrona. I don't mind at all!"

Kamae had money to pay for it easily, and frankly he was enjoying the ability to stretch his mind a bit. He had not gotten to use his old methods of Taxonomy in a long long time. To just be able to scratch that surface was fun on its own personal enjoyment. The demon waited patiently for the girl to bring back his cup after taking the order to the counter. She would set the cup down and Kamae unintentionally brushed his hand against hers. The waitress pausing a moment before blushing and pulling her hand back. Kamae was shocked as well but did not return the gesture. His eyes looking at the waitress with his ever plastered on friendly smile when looking to others.

After the waitress moved back to the counter, Kamae would take a sip from his coffee before returning his eyes back to Patrona and her curious little dinosaur.

"It would seem that one..."

Kamae stated, gesturing to the red eyed one with a nod from his head.

"Is quite intelligent... I can't be certain he understands us... or if he simply does not like me... possibly not trust... maybe both."

Kamae chuckled as he said that, enjoying the thought while he took a sip from his coffee then. As he did so, a car pulled around the corner flying at high speeds down the road. Kamae not looking at it as the car approached, and as it passed a massive wave of water could come crashing towards them. This was quickly dealt with as the demon lifted his hand, snapping his fingers which caused the water to hit an invisible wall. The water splashing against this invisible barrier to protect the group from getting water mostly. The air was still damp, but nothing that would effect them drastically.

The deed done, Kamae lowered his arm and returned his gaze out to the road.

"That was close..."

Thankfully the Sankishin was here else his suit would have gotten wet, and he wouldn't like having to dry it out later.

Kamae simply smiled as he nodded in the response to her thanks, not wanting to over complicate the kindness he had given... A sickening thought, but one that was necessary to maintain his façade. Kamae's eyes returned to his coffee, taking time to drink from it as the girl explained the age of the eldest one and if he remembered correctly... it was either Kolachi or Torta... He was going to guess it was Kolachi, but he was just stabbing wildly in the dark there.

"I see... Interesting. So there are more of them? Must be quite the handful raising them."

Kamae stated taking a sip of his tea but he could feel the Waitress' eyes on him. The demon's eyes looking at her only for the waitress to turn away in shame. The demon's then returning to his drink as he felt his blood churn, anger in his chest. He would be sure to pluck her eyes from her head later... But for now he was content to let this pitiful human cast glances at him. Such insolence, to look upon him with her lowly eyes. A god deserved to be bowed to... not stared at.

Patrona's words on what he had done made Kamae snap back to reality then, surprise as he came back from his dark thoughts. She was surprised by his ability to stop the water with a barrier.

"Oh, that? Well its a bit hard to explain... Might I ask you a strange question. But can you sense energy?"

Kamae asked, as he could sense that she was much stronger than the human's of this world. If she wanted too, she could do a lot of damage to the city. Her pets were also quite strong when compared to the average human.

"I must warn you however, what you see might be... erm... strange."

Kamae wanted to see if she could sense the Sankishin which was invisible around him. After all, its aura was simply not thick enough for the naked eye when not in use due to light passing through it. However, if Patrona could sense ki, and began to do so, the Sankishin would be slightly visible. Like a cloak of energy surrounding Kamae protectively, a suit of armor ever vigilant and ready. Yet its demonic nature would be revealed, letting Patrona know he was indeed not human. He had been playing this little game for a while with her, but now it was time to see what she thought should the truth be slightly revealed. If she tried to sense Kamae's energy, she would only sense the Sankishin's... After all, Kamae didn't have life energy due to him being a ghost and dead... Well, not exactly.
