The truth behind Amara's words did hit Azoth hard on that first part. She had lived through non-stop war for all her life, how could he understand her view of the world? These were the kind of people he would deal with most of the time if he wanted to fix Arcose's reputation, people who were wronged by way and endured troubled times. Amara would have to be some sort of 'test run', to see if it could work with someone who did not have a grudge with the arcosians directly. The fact that the solutions Azoth presented were not going to be easy felt obvious to him, nothing was gonna be easy, it is just what his path demanded, and he did not expect any single part of it to not take its toll.
'' While I cannot imagine what life you must have led, I respect the person you have become through it. I do not ask you to believe in me, just give me a chance to earn it. By walking the high road, refusing my people's way of doing things in the previous reigns of Arcosian Empires, I chose difficulty. I fully expect to fail at some point, but I'll be damned if I am ever left alive and abandon my ideal. ''
Then, Amara struck a cord. Was she said was true, Azoth might have been putting his own objectives in the way of Plant's well-being. Although he reassured himself that, while he was there for a reason, he was still doing the right thing, and partially at least, for the right reasons. Like he once said to Cheri, he would help on Plant, whether or not he actually got the throne of Arcose.
'' You are correct. I may have put the redemption of my people a little too high on my priorities. I do not need to be the figurehead of the solution, but I do wish to be seen as someone who helped. I will trust you on how to deal with the Saiyans, and I hope you will trust me with bringing you and my Tuffle allies together. For discussion of course, so that you can trade ideas on how to stop that war. If I can provide a neutral ground for both parties to feel safe, then it will be my role.''
A little humility, Azoth welcomed it as an example of him still needing to learn a lot. While he had been saying he knew it, maybe he did not grasp fully the fact that he would need to hear others out more... this would be his first step.
Their handshake was firm, much unlike business arcosian handshake, who tended to be... questionable. Confirming that she had trouble putting faith in his movement confirmed what Azoth was thinking, but it did not weaken his resolve to prove to her that he could do well if given the right opportunity. The arcosian nodded politely to everything she said.
'' The final shot is not mine to call either, it will be the choice of your people and the Tuffle to either chose conflict or peace. Like I said before, I will go with your plan for the Saiyan, I will attempt to convince the Tuffles through Cheri and Yangcong... and when the time comes, I hope everyone can sit at the same table, on neutral ground, and come out to a conclusion. ''
He had a soft chuckle when she said he wanted to keep her close, but not too much.
'' Hey, if you actually want to join, there is still space on the Freezing Horizon. We can always use the help and company. Other than that, I will be needing a representative of the Vegeteans of Plant that I can trust and that can contact me directly with the need of their people, depending on how things go, and your desire, you could be that person.''
Azoth did expect to be right about the Saiyan's nobility. He, however, did not expect it to be so clear-cut. The fact that it was not the reason for her exile and hiding her identity did disappoint him however, finding the lost heir in exile of a great kingdom sounded like a good story he would have appreciated being a part of.
'' Pardon my prying, I do tend to be a little inquisitive sometimes. I guess even if it rolls away, the fruit never truly falls too far from the tree.''
After all, it is a known fact that Arcosians like to gossip and use the information to further their goal... and even if Azoth's goals were noble, that was still the case for him.
