The android spoke with the cadence and attitude of someone who was a produce of their world, and accepted the fact that things are like they are, and cannot be changed. He knew this attitude, because it was Hibernal's, but also because it was incredibly widespread through Arcose, and probably the galaxy. While they hid under some form of sarcasm and a questionnable humor, they had already abandonned any fight that was worth fighting for, or rather, maybe they never had to begin with. But the fact that he mentionned in the end that he would stick with Azoth was confusing... perhaps he just wanted to see him fail himself ?
'' I've lived on Arcose you know ? I've seen the power mega corporation have over the planet. The money they move around to pay the guard so that they don't get involved near them. The politicians getting stuffed with money so they use their influence towards helping the corporations. Maybe you are right, saying that I am doomed. Maybe you know something that I don't, and that you can't explain to me in terms I'll understand. But if I have to die on this battle, I will die on it, knowing there was nothing more I could have done. ''
This was Azoth's true belief, even if he was to fail, then he would fail the best he could. But with the power behind him, and the bond forming within the Galactic Frontier, there was room for hope, some hope that the population could be inspired by a symbol of greatness. If he could achieve just that, have the population question the corporations and system in place side from the emperor, then his death would have been worth it.
'' Look, as desillusion as you might be with the world, you seem to have your reasons to participate in this struggle, and if you want to stick with me, whatever might be your reasons, I can pay you your fee as a mercenary. But you cannot go around and use dirty tactics outside of a battle. When we're fighting though, anything you can do to your opponents is fair, just don't get civilians involved.''
Of course, Azoth did not expect it to be that easy, but he was nothing if he did not try all these ''too good to be true'' opportunities. Hope was kind of his thing, so betting on it only made sense for him.
