Reigun stood in the countryside in front of eight targets on hay bales, her hair sandy brown cut short. Even though it was short, the breeze tried to blow it about. Reigun wore a sleeless leather jacket. The air was alive with the sweet scent of tropical flowers combined with the smell of air just before a lightning storm filled the air. It was also alive with a slight electrical feel. A spear apparently made of electricity glowing, occasionally shedding a spark bouncing harmlessly along the ground, leaned against a tree doing no harm to it. Reigun had a ball of electricity in her palm. She threw it at one of the target and did that seven more times, each target vaporized by the blast. All the while, she hummed a happy tune that had been in her head all day. She then sat on a stump and took out a sandwich and started eating. As she ate, she thought back recent events. (i'm going on the assumption that reigun's activities were simply unknown, time passed normally of course. This note should not be counted toward word count). Battles that tested the bredth and width of Reigun's abilities, new and old alike. She had been given her new nicknames: Thunderstorm and The Calm Before the storm. These were just a few of the things she'd been through of late. She was glad when she was able to take a respite to relax and hone her skills. Her days of wanderlust had returned, to go where the winds might take her and do what her heart desired.

Eventually, Kyten would need to get back to his goal. There was only so long that he could distract himself with idle wandering before he had to work towards finding the doctor's killer. While a few more months might not matter in the grand scheme of the world, it was still probably a good idea to meet with the president at some point. Before, there was the excuse that the president was away somewhere, fighting in a tournament, which brought with it some questions. That wasn't relevant now though, since he had returned by now. At least, Kyten had heard he had. He would need to check.
Regardless, he'd chosen to visit someplace far more plain, a simple countryside. There wasn't much of note, not to him anyway, but it was oddly pleasant in its own way. While it wasn't a place he would want to stay for long, for a brief stop, there was nothing wrong with it.
Of course, he managed to single out something of interest in such a relatively uninteresting place. The sounds of thunder didn't quite match up with the quiet of his surroundings. It was out of place enough that he noticed it from afar, even when he wasn't particularly looking for anything. So he flew in search of the source, soon finding a girl eating a sandwich. With little better to do at the moment, he approached.
"Hey there."
He announced this from a somewhat safe distance for them both, the odd smile present as it always was. Mostly it was a precaution in case she got scared; people tended not to notice the diminutive creation as he approached, and sometimes they reacted scared or threatened in response. Kyten didn't want that, and he figured that maybe things would work out better if he announced his presence. It wasn't likely that the girl would react violently if surprised, but it was possible. The hum of insectile wings accompanied him as he landed on the grass. There was the odd smell of burnt hay, though maybe that was his imagination.
"Hey there." Reigun looked over toward the source of the source of the voice... and saw a big bug. She was never one to look down on someone because of how they looked, not after where she'd been and what she'd seen! Sure, the trip offworld she had planned fell through, but she wasn't upset. There was no way to predict which way the wind would blow. It was the quality of character that she cared about!
Reigun thought she was short at 5 feet, but she was a foot taller than this creature! not that such things mattered... or that she was self conscious. It was just that she was used to looking up at friends and opponents alike, so this suprised her.
She smiled widely, "Hello! Want a sandwich? Tuna or Chicken?" The truth was she had brought extras for whoever came along. She grabbed a thermos she had and took a drink. She frowned. This was too cold. An electric spark came into being on the tip of her finger and she held it under the thermos for a few moments then took another drink, "Perfect! Oh...want a soda?"
She paused, perhaps it was time to return to training, but she had a guest!
Kyten's head tilted to the side as she offered him sandwiches and soda; it was the first time anyone had thought to provide him food, and was unsure of his own answer. According to the computers from the lab, he should be able to survive indefinitely without sustenance. There was no need for the creation to consume except to grow stronger, and his hands worked better than his mouth on his typical targets. Dinosaurs were a bit too big for him to eat the traditional way, not without breaking them apart first. Draining their energy was far more efficient.
Of course, he couldn't complain about the friendly greeting. And it would probably be rude to refuse. After a few seconds of thinking about this, he answered. "Can I try it? The chicken sandwich, I mean." There was no fakery in the smile here, but maybe a little awkwardness came through in the voice as he asked. If nothing else, he was curious about actually tasting something beyond the air. That provided some sensation, but he had to imagine that eating something would be a different experience from that. He couldn't say without trying.
The spark of electricity to warm her drink container was a surprise. Maybe she was somewhat robotic, but it was likely just a weird use of ki. Kyten didn't actually know too much about ki. He observed the girl with curiosity, his head remaining tilted at a slight angle. There was no harm in simply asking, probably. "How do you do that? I don't think I've seen someone use lightning before."
Reigun had made her offer of a sandwich and a soda on a fairly hot day. The air smelled faintly of Ozone still though it was being replaced with the smells of the afternoon...flowers and tropical fruit. Reigun echoed the newcomer's thoughts, "I don't know if you need to eat, but food is good for more than just sustainance ye know? Soda can be really good, too, on a hot day. It just tastes better somehow when it's hot out."
"Can I try it? The chicken sandwich, I mean."
She tossed the newcomer a chicken sandwich without thinking about it too much. "I am always glad to meet a new friend. I can never sit still, so it can be hard. When I leave my friends, I just hope to see them again."
"How do you do that? I don't think I've seen someone use lightning before."
"I don't really know. I think I was born with it. I tried teaching it, but what they ended up doing was with regular ki. The power awakened a year ago. I think it was with me before that, nurturing me...like a mother. I never met my parents. The first memory I had was at an ophanage before Mr. Lyton adopted me. But that has nothing to do with my powers, they just are. That is what matters."
The heat wasn't something that really impacted Kyten. As with the cold of previous days, the temperature was noticeable but not uncomfortable to him.
The lack of fingers didn't stop him from catching the sandwich, with the flung food caught between the two sets of claws. The catch was far from graceful, as the claws somewhat punctured and tore the bread as the food was snatched out of the air, but the point was that he caught it. It wouldn't survive long enough for the damage to matter anyway.
"I'm glad to meet a new friend too!" A simple nod was given as she failed to actually answer the electricity's origin. If she didn't know, then there wasn't anything that Kyten could do about that. It wasn't too important anyway. He should probably try the sandwich rather than worry about an odd power.
Cautiously, he turned the sandwich over in his claws. He briefly considered how he should eat it before tilting his head back and opening his mouth wide. Maybe a little too wide, as any semblance of a jaw seemed to unhinge before he threw the sandwich in. If it wasn't clear from the open-mouthed smile he held, Kyten completely lacked teeth with which to chew. Such an anatomic absence didn't stop him from tasting the sandwich or separating the pieces of poultry from the bread, as he still had a tongue to accomplish both tasks. He had no reference for the taste of anything but air and thus had no reference to describe said tastes. He knew that he preferred the taste of the meat over that of the bread, though. It probably wasn't anything to go out of his way for, but it tasted good.
Once he was done tasting, he practically swallowed the food whole. It was still unlikely to strengthen him, but there was certainly no harm in the ingestion. He looked back at the girl, his smile the same as before.
"I'm glad to meet a new friend too!" Rei smiled. She much prefered making friends to enemies...friends that cared... about those weaker than themselves and would defend their friends and family furvently...friends that were strong. That last wasn't a requirement but she liked a little friendly sport when she could get it. Leanoing against a tree, the spear glowed its assent.
Reigun could't help but laugh as Kyten tried to eat the sandwich. He was trying to figure out how to approach it until he just opened his mouth insanely wide and dropped it in, swallowing it whole. Rei couldn't understand how he could taste it that way, but her fears were assuaged when he made a slight sound of pleasure Rei was sure he didn't even know he made.
Reigun smiled, "My name is Rei. Some folks call me Reigun. I've heard I'm a folk hero to some. I've heard of such nicknames as Thunderstorm and The calm before the storm. But really I'm no hero. I'm just a girl trying to manage her own life. I can't even think of any deeds to warrant such a claim. I do apologize for talking so much. I'm sure you didn't need my life story!"
Sentia's PL: 13,000 Cele's PL: 5,000 (Ki Suppression) WC: 489It was a lovely day on Earth, as it always seemed to be when a certain pink-ish Kai was roaming the planet. She stretched lazily, looking out across the lush and eye-catching tropics. If she had to pick a favourite, it'd probably be this exotic slice of the world. Behind her trailed a runty little Saiyan with a swishing tail, a slight frown plastered plainly on his face.
"I don't see what taking you on a tour of the world exactly accomplishes for me personally. I've put up with a lot of weird training ideas since we met but at this point, it feels like you're just doing whatever." He spoke bluntly, a sour expression the entire time as he whined. His pink-haired accomplice let out an obviously fake giggle, laced with derision. She ruffled his hair mockingly.
"The main thing is experience, silly. We're trying to meet new people, get up to some hijinks. Learn. We can't blitz past the roses, you must stop and smell them! Unless you want to get trounced by some barbarians again...?"
Their conversations often devolved like this, into mindless back and forth. But after mentioning smell, Sentia paused for a moment and briefly meditated. Her eyes closed and posture relaxed, she inhaled. Not only that, she felt a power-level that was higher than her own. The smell of burnt hay and the prospect of a powerful being. She took off without a word, cutting her apprentice off in the middle of a sentence and flying in the direction of the unknown person which was only a stone's throw away. Cele grumbled to himself before taking off after her quickly.
They landed a bit away from the scene, Sentia hiding behind a tree and merely watching. After all, that's what Shinjin do best. The divine watched with intrigue as what appeared to be a regular Earthling spoke with something far stranger. She had seen and read about many species back in Otherworld, but this wasn't any of the ones she knew. And more than that, she couldn't sense the faintest energy from it even though it stood right before her! Puzzled, she continued to watch. Loudly though, the teenage Saiyan began mouthing off at her despite her incessant 'shush'ing.
"Stop flying away from me all of a sudden! Are you trying to ditch-" The sweater-clad youth went silent as he noticed the two strangers ahead. His hands swiftly became clammy and he stuttered before trailing off his sentence. He was like a deer caught in headlights, just staring at Reigun and Kyten awkwardly. The older woman tutted and strode out from hiding now they'd accidentally made commotion. She put her hands together in a gesture of apology.
"Very sorry to eavesdrop on you! It was an accident, swear. But since we're here, it's very lovely to meet you both. I'm Sentia. The child is Cele. I do hope this conversation has room for two more."
In truth, Kyten wasn't sure he had encountered anyone who could properly qualify as a friend. There were those he had friendly encounters with plenty of people, of course, but he wasn't sure he'd made any actual friends. Though, he didn't really know what it meant to be a friend in the first place. He knew it was good to have friends, though. He should probably try to befriend people rather than only talk to them. It was something he should think about.
"Oh, it's fine! I haven't been awake long enough to do anything important, so I don't have any titles like you do. I'm just Kyten." The smile remained as he answered, his voice revealing no apprehension about either her rambling or his relative anonymity. If Kyten had done anything significant, he might have objected to being unknown. Though maybe not, it might make doing things easier for him if he stayed unknown. It wasn't something he'd ever had to think about.
Kyten chose not to elaborate on his own story yet, and he'd probably drop some details. It probably wasn't a good idea to talk about his primary mission to everyone he met, now that he'd had time to think about the situation more. Reigun didn't seem like the person who should get involved in that, anyway. She seemed nice, probably too nice for that kind of thing.
The antennae atop Kyten's head lightly twitched in the air as the two newcomers grew closer, and he suddenly realized that there were others here. His head snapped in the direction of the newcomers, large eyes looking back at the two seemingly human figures as the large smile remained. The tail on the sweatered boy did not go unnoticed by him, but his Saiyan nature didn't particularly matter to Kyten. It simply meant that the boy was likely more powerful than the average human. Similarly, the pink girl didn't stand out in any obvious way. Maybe she was a little tall, but most humans were taller than him. He probably wasn't the best judge of height.
"It's okay! I don't mind, anyway." A clawed hand idly waved at nothing in particular, before the buglike creation turned back to face Reigun. "I'm assuming that's fine with you too?"
"Very sorry to eavesdrop on you! It was an accident, swear. But since we're here, it's very lovely to meet you both. I'm Sentia. The child is Cele. I do hope this conversation has room for two more."
"Don't sweat it." Sentia. Cele. Rei decided she liked how they felt on her tongue and sounded in her ears. "Do you two want sandwiches and soda? I have plenty." pats her cooler. "My Name's Rei by the way."
"Oh, it's fine! I haven't been awake long enough to do anything important, so I don't have any titles like you do. I'm just Kyten."
"I hope when you do something important, we're still friends. You're an interesting little bug...or big bug. Oops. I really do hope you don't mind that I called you a bug. I meant it in a good way!"
The talk of friends made her think of Nasu. She hadn't seen him since that day at the beach. She hoped he was ok. A moment later, her thoughts went to Lulu, a sobering thing to think of, to say the least. She refused to let her thoughts dwell on it, especially around new friends!
She finally added, "I'm just a circus performer turned martial artist. Those titles are mostly the result of being in the right place at the right time!"
Sentia did a small curtsy as the others introduced themselves. She wore a perpetually sweet smile, her eyes constantly closed as her face was stuck in one emotion: faux joy. In contrast, the young boy next to her was yanking on the end of his own tail out of anxiety, his eyes constantly switching between Rei and Kyten. The pink Shinjin gave a small pat to the back of the boy as she opened her mouth to begin addressing them.
"A martial artist? How lovely, you could say that I and the boy are too.. though a bit loosely. Cele is almost certainly one, after all, he's a proud Saiyan! I love a good fight myself, but I have to keep up appearances and all.~ How about you, Kyten? You certainly don't look like any species I know of, so are you hiding some insane combat capabilities?" She gave a giggle at the end, as if she was merely playing, but her question came from a place of burning curiosity. What WAS it? She didn't want to cause trouble by being too forward with her intrigue, but the creature befuddled her.. especially since she couldn't sense it. Cele's feet shuffled awkwardly as he placed himself closer to the Earthling, clearly a bit dubious about Kyten himself.
"Um.. nice to meet you, Rei. I'll have a sandwich if you don't mind. And you said you're a circus performer..? That's kinda interesting.. I didn't expect someone so normal looking to work in a place like that. I thought it was all clowns and outcasts. Anyway, it's cool that you're doing important stuff already.. you seem young. I haven't done anything interesting yet.. except maybe meet her." He rubbed the back of his head before gesturing generally in Sentia's direction, caring not for tact unlike his mentor. His tail swished about before wrapping around his waist, tucking underneath his sweater as to stop himself from playing with it anymore in his nervousness.
Sentia watched him carefully, making sure he didn't say anything too offensive, but her focus was mainly on the two new people. This Rei who claimed to be considered a hero was so strong, and this strange Kyten was a bundle of mysteries! She decided to break the ice by revealing a bit about herself first in the hopes of coming across more sociable.
"For the record, despite my frankly beautiful appearance, I'm no mortal! Yes, indeed, I hail from Otherworld. That makes me sort of special in a way, but don't think too highly of me. I'm as normal as you lot. I'm actually here in your mortal realms on a super secret mission.~ Isn't that exciting?" Of course, the mission wasn't actually a secret.. it stood a few paces away from Rei. Her mission was actually very vague and simple, but she was hoping by making it sound more interesting she could perhaps goad more info from the two strangers. She was almost aggressive in her information gathering tactics, her pointed ears wiggling as she awaited any replies that might serve useful in her understanding of Earth. WC: 518 Total: 1007
"I don't mind. You can call me what you like. And I hope we'll be able to stay friends if I do something important, too!" The creation's smile didn't waver as he replied to Reigun, and why would it? The computers at the lab compared aspects of Kyten's body to the small arthropods of Earth, and they told him some aspects of his design were based on such life. It was never an insult, simply a statement of fact that he had insectile features. Part of it may have been connected to his Namekian DNA, but he had little knowledge of Namekians besides a few descriptions and pictures. As usual, the exact details weren't given to him, and they probably weren't too important in the first place. He was not the scientist his creator was.
Sentia's question was a little intriguing. Were the strange often strong? "I can fight if that's what you're asking. I haven't fought anyone too strong myself. I've mostly taken down some dinosaurs." Though large red eyes glanced towards the Saiyan, their blank nature failed to betray emotion beyond his endless smile. Kyten didn't think much of the boy getting closer to Reigun rather than himself, focused on answering the pink girl's questions. "As for my appearance, I was made this way, so I doubt there would be anyone who looks like me. I'm the only one the doctor made, as far as I know."
The woman's proclaimed lack of mortality sounded important, though Kyten had no idea how important it really was. He had no reference for anything like that, and Sentia seemed to dismiss the importance of that fact immediately. Now that he looked closer, he could notice the pointed ears poking out of the long hair, so was that the norm for whatever species she was? He knew of Herans and Konatsians from the computer's pictures, and they had pointy ears too. However, their skin was far bluer and paler than the woman, respectively. He had encountered neither Herans nor Konatsians in person, but from what he knew, she was something else. And her home of another world was so vague as to mean nothing. Not unless it was really called 'Other world', but he still hadn't been told of such a place. It did leave him curious, though. "I'm sorry, but I don't know about your other world. I know about a lot of things, but not about any place called 'Other World'. What's it like? Is it important?"
Kyten was also curious about her mission, but it was best to take this one subject at a time. There was no need to rush here.
"Um.. nice to meet you, Rei. I haven't done anything interesting yet.. except maybe meet her."
Reigun tossed the kid a sandwich, "It's kind of a sad story how I ended up in the circus. Incidentally, its connected to how I realized my powers... but trust me, you don't want to hear about all of that."
"For the record, despite my frankly beautiful appearance, I'm no mortal! Yes, indeed, I hail from Otherworld. That makes me sort of special in a way, but don't think too highly of me. I'm as normal as you lot. I'm actually here in your mortal realms on a super secret mission.~ Isn't that exciting?"
Rei's childishness shined through again as her eyes lit up, "Ooh, are you an angel? Like Cele's guardian angel? Is your super secret mission to protect him from like some gangster types trying to hurt him? If so you can count me in! Oh, that is unless there is a written test involved..."
When Reigun said "count me in!" She couldn't help but get excited but in doing so, she unwittingly invoked her power. The sky darkened slightly and the air smelled like right before a lightning storm. Very reminiscent of just before Kyten found her. Lightning lit up her eyes and sparks danced on her fingers.
Just then Reigun realized what was happening and the sky brightened, the smell in the air began to dissipate as the electricity disappeared from her eyes. The electricity on her fingers lept to the spear leaning against a nearby tree. Its glow brightened a bit and that electricity too was gone. After a few moments, the spear's light dimmed as if its hunger were satiated.
"I am so very sorry about that. I seldom get excited enough to lose control of my powers like that. Even during battle, I keep strict control. I...can't explain it!" She bowed to Sentia, then to Cele and Kyten. "Please accept my apology!"
The kai was interested to find that Kyten was indeed created artificially, something she had actually never heard of until now. The mention of a doctor made it seem less mystical and more scientific, though she wondered where a Shinjin should fall on playing with life as if a mortal was a god. It seemed like it was a bad thing, but for now she decided not to cause trouble or say anything untoward to the bug-like creature. Instead she focused on answering his question. "Well, Otherworld is an important place for sure! When people die, their souls are ferried off there. It's a bit hard to wrap your head around unless you've been there but indeed, the afterlife exists. Many cultures have different interpretations of it but I'm one of the few who can give a true inside scoop on it, being born there and all. Specifically, I hail from Heaven, so you could definitely say I'm an angel.~ I'm curious what would happen if you died though..." She pointed towards Kyten. "Do you have a soul? Can such a thing be created? Oh my, perhaps that's too deep a question for our first meeting.. you're just a very interesting person to me!"
Cele meanwhile was biting into his sandwich at a relaxed pace, wondering about what Rei had said. He knew all about sad stories, after all. He was only here right now because of how quickly his life had turned upside down. He felt he had no place to belong to anymore, so her finding one in a circus made her quite lucky or strong-willed. He shuddered a little at Kyten's glance in his direction, involuntarily. He had always hated insects but he felt bad reacting in such a way to a living breathing person who seemed polite.
"Hm, well if you don't want to share your past, that's understandable. Though you mentioned powers? I'm not familiar with what you mean.. are you special like Sentia? Who by the way, totally isn't a guardian angel.. she's annoying. I can fight and know how to use Ki and all that but I don't really think that's special, my family explained it to me ages ago and it seems like most martial artists and Saiyans can do it."
He didn't really need to ponder on it much more as it seemed to flare up in her excitement, drawing the attention of both halves of the duo for once. Sentia immediately recognised it as the smell from earlier, and sensing her power rise with the surge of electricity, she realised that Rei WAS pretty special. That wasn't exactly ordinary for Earthlings to her knowledge. As she bowed, Cele waved his hand dismissively while Sentia placed a hand under her own chin and pondered.
"It's alright, don't worry about it. Control is something you don't always have even after training for a long time." He revealed and unfurled his tail. "This thing still causes me trouble. If you grab it hard enough, it totally paralyses most Saiyans who aren't used to it. My mom told me to get used to that feeling until it no longer effects me but it's still hard.. so yeah, no worries about losing your cool. Though now I'm kinda interested in seeing what you can do when you fully control that power in a fight.." His Saiyan side was impressed with her and realising she had been hiding an intriguing skill made him wonder what type of techniques Kyten had since he claimed to have fought. It was rude to ask for a fight though, he had manners and didn't want to be scolded by Sentia. The Shinjin could feel his excitement just from his final statement, chuckling to herself. WC: 624 TWC: 1631
The concept of an afterlife was something that Kyten had heard of, though he knew nothing specific about it or if it even existed. The existence or presence of a soul was similarly something that he was abstractly aware of, as were angels. He had no reason to think or care about the subject before, but it was different if all of them existed. Admittedly, the questioning of his hypothetical soul and death was a little odd, but something he was also curious about. It wasn't something he was in any hurry to verify though, especially if he had to die to do so.
"I don't know if I have a soul, but I'd rather not die to test that. Don't you have an easier way to tell if I have a soul?" He replied, somewhat curious as to her own answer. He didn't know the importance of souls, so he didn't care much if he had one. Still, that was only a curiosity, nothing more significant than that. Now that she mentioned she came from this afterlife though, that was more than curious. That could actually be important. "Also, since you come from the afterlife, can anyone go to Otherworld? Or is it only for the dead and those like you?"
If this woman hailed from such a place, that logically meant it was a physical place. If so, maybe he could meet his creator through this afterlife. He had a lot of questions for him about many different things, and it would likely make his mission easier too. Though, that assumed that he could even visit such a place. Perhaps logic did not fully apply to the Otherworld. Maybe a soul was necessary, and he couldn't be sure he held one. All things to think about.
Though he had already seen a more benign use of Reigun's powers, the sudden flare of emotion provided a more visible and less controlled display of her power that scorched a nearby tree. Instantly his body stood alert, facing the lightning-wielding girl for a moment before his body relaxed. This wasn't an attack. This wasn't a fight she was starting. This was just an accident, a mistake. There was no need to overreact, no need to retaliate. She even apologized for the discharge of electricity. After a moment, the buglike creation released a breath as his body relaxed.
"...It's alright. Just try to be careful about that, okay? You could hurt someone like that, and they might not be as understanding afterwards." What went unsaid was that he likely would have reacted more harshly had he not spoken to her first, had he hypothetically been next to the tree. Or especially if he was struck. Perhaps he wouldn't have retaliated, but he couldn't be sure of himself. Fortunately, that wasn't how this went, so neither of them had to worry about that now.
Cele's talking of ki and control was interesting. Kyten had received minimal training in the lab, most of his combat instincts apparently being built into him. The insectoid didn't understand much about ki, but he understood how to attack and dodge as needed. It made sense that others would need to be taught how to fight.
"I'm curious about how you fight, too. Do you use lightning the same way that most use ki?" Kyten sat still, head slowly tilting as he pondered his own question. There wasn't any inherent desire for him to fight her for a number of reasons. It was simply another thing he was curious about. It seemed there was no shortage of such things here.
