Megis hadn't been back to the Korin Forest ever since the incident with Glainne and the others, but he had a mighty need for wood, and he knew no place better to find wood than a forest. A major part of his campaign was a pledge to donate a significant amount of zeni into the construction and restoration of martial arts dojos across the world. It was very easy to say something without meaning it, but that wasn't the type of person that Megis wanted to be, and so he decided that he'd prove to the word he meant his word by building the first himself.
He could have probably created all the materials he needed out of magic, but that would take a significant amount of energy to do so, and the common people weren't accustomed to seeing magic, so they might not trust his creation. Of course it was probably safer to use magic as he had no real construction knowledge, but try explaining that to them.
Anyway, Korin Forest was the biggest forest that he knew of, and having personally lived there for quite some time he knew that there wouldn't likely be anyone who objected to his task, or at least not anyone strong enough to get in the way. One thing Megis was mindful of was avoiding the nearby tribal grounds as he didn't want to disturb them in this matter. They were chief on his mind when it came to who could be offended by his actions, but as long as he stayed out of sight and didn't take from the trees around them he felt he'd be fine.
And so he moved deep into the forest; maybe deeper than he'd ever been before, until the sights around him became unfamiliar. Once he found a decent enough spot he used his magic to forge an axe in his hand, large enough to where the blade was thicker than any of the trees around him. Satisfied with this weapon in hand Megis got to work slamming away at the trees, knowing that he'd need probably two dozen at least to complete the dojo he had in mind.
