The ride to the hospital camp feels like an eternity, by the time the medical crew landed Russ would've drifted off to sleep by now, either from boredom or the Senzu painkiller knocked him unconscious. The young protector opened his eyes and he discovered to be somewhere else...a white room. It is not the same white room from Central City and East City medical facilities, but he recognized a distinct smell that can only be found in hospitals. Russ sits upward and looks down at his legs resting on a bed. A tug on his torso got his attention, he is not wearing his black Gi anymore. Cardiac stickers are stuck on his chest, they are connected to wires from a heart monitor on his left.
Band-aids and white pads covered several needle injections on his torso, and the life-threatening wound above his heart is gone. He figured it was the work of Senzu bean medicine, they gave him extra doses to repair all the internal damages inflicted on him. He should be lucky he managed to reduce external injuries in the fight against Sesame or he would have ended up dead.
Russ spotted his Gi and shirt on a chair wondering about their placement. He looks at a red cross on a box and realized where he was taken. "Oh no...not again." Mildly annoyed at his dilemma. He leaned his head back on the pillow and stared at the ceiling, wondering how much his medical bill cost from all of these hospital trips.
It wouldn't really be an episode of Russ saving the day again if there wasn't a little hospital bed waiting for him down the line. Jackie could only think about what the boy's first words would be when he realized where he was again. She had plenty of time, following the helicopter out to camp and leaving Marshall's men to do the busy work. She wouldn't really have known what to do with the pink menace if it was just her again dishing out the pain.
The kami sat patiently in the room with him as he was tended to, crimson eyes watching those emergency nurses and doctors do their best to stave off death and then some. it wasn't until he seemed to come to his senses a little and speak up that Jackie held a thin smirk and huffed a laugh through her nose at him. She remained sat down and looked at him from across the small tent. Her voice fills the room in a nearly hushed tone, as to keep from disturbing others nearby.
"I think you're developing a habit, Blue. Is this a third?" As much of a tease as it was, she did feel a twinge of concern seeing him in this predicament so frequently. At least this time he actually accomplished his goal before succumbing. She couldn't say that about her own visits.
"Still feeling awful? Ill? Numb?" Parts of her wish she could apply some healing directly, herself, but she didn't really know the techniques that deeply. It was perhaps something to find once she faced her demons again at her burnt village. It'd be handy...

"He's got the best treatment we have, short of stickin' him in one of them tanks for a week or taking a field trip to Namek." Marshall shuffled into view, arms crossed over his broad chest. "Same for everyone else. Y'all did good in stopping the Demon before things went too far, but..." Nothing was perfect. People still got hurt. A single stray blast, a spray of glass, rubble falling; any of it could and did damage. Civilians were like little glass dolls. So easy to break. "None of that is yer fault, though, so let's not dwell on it."
"Jackie Jeans, yeah? Dunno what the 'Guardian' stuff is about, but frankly? I don't give a damn as long as you ain't causing trouble." The Kami was registered. A quick search for someone matching her physical description and battle power made finding information all too easy. "You though?" The officer turned to the still-recovering Russ. "Nothin'. Triple-checked, so it ain't a fluke either." Marshall sighed, running a hand through his hair. "With a battle power like yours, purposefully dodging the Accords amount to a felony, son. Several."
He'd let the moment hang for a second before continuing: "That bein' said, I'm sure ya noticed we aren't in a prison hospital. Way I see it, you stuck yer neck out to protect the city. Don't think it'd be fair to ship ya off to a supermax like Sesame after."
"At this rate, I may as well live in a hospital." He joked. That doesn't sound so bad, Russ will have decent meals three times a day, and a television to keep himself entertained. If he gets sick or injured, the doctors will always be around to take care of it. "I'm fine...a little heavy on the arms and legs. Good news my stomach isn't a whirlwind anymore." It was a nightmare to chuck up nearly all of his insides, but that's over now, and he is coherent again.
The police chief entered the room and assured the guardian their spunky patient received the best medical care they provided. A healing pod and Namek top their work. Russ has never been inside a rejuvenation tank or Reverse Earth before. It will be a surreal experience to go to Namek someday. He congratulated both of them on stopping Sesame and took a second to think about casualties and collateral damage. They did the best they could and shouldn't dwell on it, but like with Battle Island, Russ will mourn the fallen on his own terms.
Marshall ran a background check on their files, stating Jackie's full name and her guardian status. He did the same for Russ and nothing came up in the database. He revealed the vigilante has not complied with the accords. Uh oh...a cold feeling spread across his body, is he in trouble? What does Jackie think now that he broke the law?
The elderly man touched his hair, It was weird but it didn't bother the hybrid at all. For him to grow a soft spot for the Saiyan, he must be a father. Russ would have been charged with a felony but as a token of gratitude for his part in preventing South city's destruction, he wasn't sent to a supermax prison. "I have my reasons for not signing the accords Sir." It was the first time he addressed the old man formally. "Rest assured I will always do my best to keep everyone safe from danger. I appreciate not being hauled to jail. Thanks." showing gratitude.
Russ sat up again and looked up at Marshal. "You and the kid risked your lives to help us when you both could've been killed on the spot. If anything you guys are the real heroes." battle power means nothing if you have a big heart to do the right thing.
Jackie craned her head up to see Marshall come in. Giving the pair that sort of stern look she could see any dad have over a pair of misfit siblings. Of course, that was probably just his resting face, but it didn't come to her as a 'wrong' assumption. The kami laughed a little under her breath and tried clearing her throat. A hand insistently rubbed at her other arm's forearm as she nodded.
"It's what I'm here for, sir. 'Guardian stuff'. Stepped in as soon as I sensed him. Could say it wasn't my... first rodeo with the demon. Only bad things were bound to happen if he stopped hiding his presence from me." She half-wondered if her own entrance was too much of a light show for people, but she's had no complaints about how she literally spawned from a ray of light yet. That was the least of her issues though when it came out that Russ himself was an actual potential criminal dodging the Accords as he had. A slight twinge of a frown appears just a moment on her face before she just looks at Russ and laughs a little.
"Him not being registered? I'm not that surprised." She's known some questionably good people like Erebos absolutely dip after the fact. Going so far as to attack Derry for the law. Russ never went that far, but he never came across as a flawless paragon of law. Jackie was far too well known to just dodge it like her friends here and she's had no reason to suspect Derry has anything other than good intent behind precautions like these. Even if she didn't agree with how well it seemed to track people... Domestically or not.
"Russ. I understand that it isn't exactly ideal and I personally do not like the records this keeps on others, but it's the president's word. I'd like to believe it was instated to help protect Earth. And if we're going to work with anyone like Marshall here, it'd be complicated if something like this was brought up constantly. They'd start treating you like a criminal." Something makes her doubt exceptions are made.

"Good stuff. Keep guarding." It was a little weird that a single woman held such a monolithic title, but the law saw no reason to make a fuss of it. "If yer going for an 'angel from heaven' look, the giant pillar of light helped." Russ piped up, claiming to have reasons for not signing the Accords.
"Yeah. Don't doubt ya." People were scared. Derry was stoking that fear and then allowing it to become the will of the people. On paper the law was fine. Track potentially dangerous people and attempt to stop them before they do evil. In practice, it did nothing to mitigate attacks and only served as a layer of oppression for those who were peaceful or defenders of Earth before. "That bein' said. The field pass I gave ya was just that - a field pass. Unless you sign, only the President has the authority to give exclusive permissions."
At least Russ had some manners. Maybe it was because he was lying infirm in a hospital bed at the technical mercy of the government, but a simple thanks was appreciated. "Just doin' what I always do. Been a long life, n' most of it was spent playing protector. Unfortunate that the bad guys have gotten too big for normal britches." Marshall used to be top of the pack due to his Terran heritage. And in some sense, he still was if you compared him to a regular human. "Ms. Jean's concerns are valid, and I'll warn ya, if you encounter handlers other than me during incidents, they ain't gonna go easy on ya. Keep it in mind."
Here comes the lectures, the scolding tone accompanied by two disappointed law-abiding adults. He expected one from Jackie, she is always guiding him on the right path. Breaking the law because he didn't like the accords would not sit well with her. Marshall? Well that man is the embodiment of the law, at best he will look the other way every time Russ steps in to put criminals off the street. At worst he will give the young man a single warning and will not be so lenient next time.
Suprisingly , none of that happened.
The chief officer told Russ the field pass he gave him is...well a pass to work in the field. Derry has authority to grant him permission for every crime stopping activity in the streets. Jackie isn't mad at Russ at all, in fact she doesn't like the accords either and how they hold information on people. She signed on believing Derry put in these countermeasures to protect the Earth. She warned Russ he'll be treated like a criminal if he continues to get caught accords dodging.
Some help it did, Fukushu and Sesame didnt get the memo and attacked a city anyway. Marshall isn't furious either and echoed Jackie's warning, other law enforcement out there will not go easy on the blue crusader. Russ is lucky Marshall is one of the few friendly cops he met. "I'm already a criminal the moment I chose to stop crime without a badge. In dire circumtances I'm NEVER going to ask Derry permission to fight bad guys and help those in need, life is too short to dial up the president and wait for approval. If the police have a problem with that, they can talk to my lawyer." Russ' decision is final.
A fire in his eyes determined to keep the world safe for as long as he drew breath, villains are NOT going to wait for a hero to put them on hold for a phone call. All it takes is a few seconds to cause property damage and kill a civilian with a ki blast. Russ adjusted himself in his bed to sit in a comfortable position. "How long until I get out of here?" he hoped he wouldn't have to stay bedridden too long if he is healed up.
No hassle from Marshall, really. He seemed more impressed by the accidental theatrics of her introduction and warning than anything. Sesame definitely got what he wanted from that if it was a damn hero. The kami sheepishly smiles up at him before turning back to Russ as he spoke about his rather indignant refusal to not do the whole hero business even without the Accords thing. The older man was taking it better than most she'd probably expect listening to the cries of a vigilante. Jackie snorted a little and pointed at herself.
"Blue, I getcha, but I also don't exactly wait on call for the president or any task force either. And I'm signed up." Partly because she couldn't not with her notoriety. "And even before that, I fought without the government behind me. I don't think they'll really stop you from doing all this. Can't guarantee they won't give ya flak. Especially if they ferry you off like this time." It would be a little suicidal to start locking up good people like Russ simply because they didn't sign up. And then what, lose another guardian of Earth? Speaking of... She couldn't really afford the likes of Russ being out of commission for long. There was something she had to do to help.
"Not sure how long they want you down. I know you bounce back quickly though. Maybe... I can find a way to accelerate it too. I'd need to visit my old place first and learn a bit more, but I think I'm ready for that." She craned her head back over to Marshall. Nudging a head over at Russ, wondering if the old man had info on that himself.
"Regardless of how long it takes, I'm gonna need you to be well rested before you try somethin' else stupid, got it? Nearly gave me a heart attack when blood came spraying. I thought he blew a hole or somethin' in ya moment before I could turn around and really see what happened. You're a crazy idiot just takin' that." But her crazy idiot, at the end of the day.

*Nasu: lulu If you would hear an old member's experience, trust me when I say you get a lot of creative freedom and more flavor chances than what it might look like at first. It is okay, though. But if you choose to stay, you will also be welcome!
