She was right.
She was likely to heal fast enough from this sparring but he preferred being sure that he did not accidentally hurt someone too much just because of a spar. But he still nodded in relief when she confirmed that much, but of course what came next was a little more puzzling. He figured there was a chance of mind reading but this was a little different, more like a shared vision rather. Or did he accidentally let it leak out of his mind with his telepathy? He did not know, frankly he was not good with these kinds of abilities, not all that much. By now there was no meaning in even trying to question or understand it, the point of it was that she had seen the same things he did.
“You saw my family. At least when I had one, that would be about twenty years ago or something like that. I do not come from Plant, of course. I was born in a far world, there were plenty of different people, such as Konatsians, or even dragons. That was why it did not look like a Saiyan household at all.”
Given the spar had apparently been paused, he thought he could also sit somewhere. Not spotting a rock at all in his surroundings, he decided to just take a rest on the ground and sat against a wall.
“Neither of those. My home was a fine place. Saiyans moved there many years ago when their original homeworld was destroyed, but all things considered, there was a large faction of people that considered Saiyans to be intruders, even if we adapted peacefully. Those people allied with other members of my kin that sought to overthrow the established kingdom where Saiyans were a relevant force. These other kinsmen included my father.”
He took a brief pause, he began to wonder if there was not any sort of water source in this cave. But he doubted it, the warrior could do with some water to recover a little bit of stamina, while now there was ample breath to be wasted over the story he was telling.
“At the time it was the end of a military campaign. I had promised to my family that I would retire after the event and live peacefully and together with them, but that night I was approached by my father and he revealed his plans. I opposed him, of course. But he was much stronger and in the end, he made me watch while some executioners beat my family to death as punishment for my rebellion.”
By then he had already given explanation for at least both of the two visions. Now of course, the oath was a little harder to try and give a direct meaning to, but he decided to somewhat try anyway.
“After I nearly exploded in anger, he stabbed me and threw me out of the window in the hopes I would drown in the nearby river. I survived, somehow. But I could not sense energy yet and I had been driven far away from the currents. I wandered for days, things happened and in the end I returned to my kingdom to only find puppets.”
Right, another thing to explain. This was annoying. Nasu suddenly pointed to his forehead, trying to draw a circle around his head.
“Back then, all Saiyans were part of the military. Knights, they called them. I was their captain. They always made us wear this weird circlet with a weird gem engraved inside, it was usually around our head as a symbol that the people would recognize us for, but it was not just a symbol. This stone stored a power capable of controlling a person’s mind. You can catch my drift from there when I say puppets I believe. When I returned, they saw me as a natural enemy and I had to fight my way through all of them. I do not know how many, but at some point, I stopped thinking. All I had was my sword, it was the only certainty. I just fought, like a wild beast whose only goal was to survive.”
He was only driven by vengeance and rage, of course. But that did not take him far, in the end. When many enemies fell, whether by his own hand or by each other, as the puppets began to fight amongst themselves, in the end even the only certain thing in his life was lost.
“Until the blade broke. I do not remember much about how it did because then I snapped out of it. I only remember the debris, the corpses and the large apes that were either down already or fighting amongst themselves. I had never seen such chaos before. But I did not have any strength left, physically and mentally. I just had a breakdown then. That was when I made the oath to abandon the sword, because only the idea of wielding a blade brings back that dangerous frenzy.”
There was much more to that night but honestly there was no need for him to really explain any further, especially because it was already confusing surely but it was difficult to exactly sum everything up in a way that he would not have to take hours. Beyond that, though, he believed he had at least made it clear what it was for him that truly scared Nasu about wielding a sword, especially after the events with the demon. He did not wish to risk losing control.
Nasu also believed that he managed to forge himself into something new, that was why he bothered with martial arts at all. But of course, there was this strange pattern; no matter what new technique he came up with, he could not express one hundred percent of his power or close into it, almost as something limited him. She also believed that it was a conscious kind of limit.
You could not shove a car racer inside a bike race and expect him to perform just as good. That was the way he had come to realize things.
“I know it is not as severe as I may have worded it, my bad. It is not like I can not pull some strong hits, but it is not enough in a real battle. When I face the enemy I wish to use all I can unleash so I may protect the ones dear to me in this day and age.”
The man finally pushed himself up to his feet, his eyes closed briefly to kind of snap out of the whole subject with one final phrase.
“After all, if I lose any more of them only because I can not go all out, what courage do I have to one day face all those I lost in the afterlife?”
The more he thought this over and more he believed that he just had to pick up a sword again, but this was not going to be a day and night decision, all he could do was use the good Cambia did in hearing him out and think it over.
“Thanks, Cambia. I feel like I should ponder over what you told me. But I do not want to bother you with my problems any further. I should have helped you grow stronger and instead you ended up giving me a hand. Maybe another time we can have a more proper spar?”WC: 1,248Total WC: 5,054Power Level: 71,997HP: ▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰190%KP: 5/6MP: 2/6OOC Notes/Items Used:
