Rhapsody was willing to give Megis a second chance. And while Celerous was a firm believer that people could be better, it was a little too soon for the small Majin to suddenly turn over a new leaf. Even so, the alien woman continued to argue in favor of trusting the bubblegum man, stating that she came from a world where one was bound by their word. It seemed like a neat place, to be sure. Full of honorable people, no doubt.
But this was Earth. People lied every hour.
"It works a little differently on Earth," Celerous tried to explain while Rhapsody was in his arms, "people aren't bound like that here. They'll lie."
And then Megis proved his point.
Before Celerous could nab him, the Majin transformed into something... more. He flew just out of Cel's reach, above the two of them. Then, just as Celerous had worried he was scheming to do, Megis tried to hammerfist him and Rhapsody both into the furnace. The young farmer might have told the bird lady "I told you so," but he was a little preoccupied with not becoming a sacrifice.
Celerous merely held up his palm, hardening it, and let Megis' fist strike it uselessly.
"Like so."
Cel darted to the side, landing on the ground a few feet away from the furnace. He made no attempt to put Rhapsody down, not when Megis had pushed himself to more than half of Celerous' own power, and the pretty bird had a power of exactly zero. No way was he about to have her death weigh on his conscience. He'd just have to keep Megis away from them without his arms. How was he going to do that? Well, Celerous would just have to make things up as he went.
"See, the thing about Megis here, is that he's been lying to you this whole time. He wasn't repenting, not really. This is a creature who threatened to kill me over a couple of beans, after all. He just wanted you to lower your guard, Rhapsody. He was still planning on getting his sacrifice today."
