It was for a just cause; that's what they had told Megis. He didn't know much about the man, only that he had been with the commune for as long as anybody could remember. He had no grievances to speak of when thinking of him, but nothing positive to look back on either. He was an old man without family nor much life left to live, so why not put it to good use? That's how they explained this pilgrimage to Megis before hanging the Majin a sack containing an unconscious man who was to be sacrificed for the more power. As always, Megis obliged; in this case for his own curiosity.
Of course he didn't want to carry the man through the Mount Five Element and all of it's perils. The heat's were hot and the chills were chilly, but worst of all was the magic tricks they used to guard the mountain. He used the term 'they' as he had no idea who could possibly tend to the region and yet someone must have, else who put the tricks in place. Optical illusions and false fighters plagued his journey, but his own magical prowess served him well during the many trials.
Upon reaching the magical furnace he plopped the old fool down off his back and examined the great God he would be sacrificing too. The Furnace of Eight Divisions (to use it's full and proper name) was a device with little knowledge which is exactly what made it interested to Megis. He was a glutton for knowledge and a snatcher of secrets; he would make the furnace speak to him no matter what. But with so little knowledge of the device the Majin found himself unsure of how to proceed.
By now his captive had awoke, and was desperately trying to claw himself out of his sack. "Quiet. You do not want to offend the Gods in their own home." He gave the stiff man a stiffer kick and turned his focus back to the furnace. Approaching carefully he placed his hand upon it's cool surface and quickly discovered how un-cool it actually was, as three of his fingers melted away. "Have I insulted you? Tell me how to unlock your secrets and I'll deliver you a thousand old men in sacks!" He dutifully waited for a reply.
