The summons had arrived early, the messenger unknown and unheard.
Shiver had seen the folded letter, sealed, pressed to the door of Lord Hale's large home. The family unit lived on a good expanse of land, owned by Hale himself, on the outer edges of Kuriza City. It was a quiet place, away from most of the bustle of city life, yet Shiver found little peace within the dwelling. It didn't help that the main source of discomfort came from his parent, a large and known warrior, who seemed to everything possible to interject and disrupt Shiver's day-to-day life at almost every turn. Nonetheless, the letter from the Regal Citadel was a good distraction, to which the short Arcosian reached up and pulled it free from the door.
Hm.
Shiver unfolded it, snapped the seal, and read quickly. The summons came from Empress Ise, someone that Shiver wasn't very familiar with mainly due to his young age and lack of political involvement. But, one thing he did know, was that Arcosian community was composed of social expectations and propriety, so Shiver had little option but to accept the summons. He suspected he knew what it may have been pertaining to, given recent events in Hale's household, but also didn't want to presume.
That reminds me, Shiver thought to himself, as he stepped out of the house and tapped the re-folded letter against his chin. I received a similar letter not long ago, but that summons was postponed amid... some upheaval, I suppose. I wonder if this is regarding the same matter?
Without much further thought, Shiver took to the sky as he began to fly with his Ki, and began to soar toward the city center. He passed over the tops of buildings, and noted the increase in structure density the closer to the Citadel he got. The trip didn't take long, and before Shiver knew it, he was angled up higher to reach the elevated - and obnoxiously prominent - palace for Arcosian leadership. All told, it was an impressive place, even if Shiver felt put-out by the demand for his time and attention; he was a busy individual, after all, and couldn't just drop everything on the whim of some ruler he didn't know or care about!
Still, that must be the main entry. A fascinating place, if a little too richly designed, near gaudy really.
Shiver lowered himself and landed on a broad paved area, with neatly kept decorations and the like. Ahead was the seeming main entryway to the Citadel, which Shiver walked toward, and approached a number of guards lined up at the door. They all turned eyes toward the arrival, which showed their state of alertness, but otherwise remained silent...
"I am Shiver," The short Arcosian stated, as he stopped in front of the large ornate doors that led into the Regal Citadel, and looked up at the several taller guards that stood there. "I demand entry, at the summons of Empress Ise."
To emphasize his point, Shiver produced a folded letter that had the appropriate seals and signatures, along with the summons in written form. Whether it was from the Empress's own hand, or not, the small Arcosian couldn't say, but the closest guard peered down and took the offered item. A quick glance and check seemed to convince said guard, who then nodded to the others and stepped to one side; to which the large ornate doors slowly opened, the opulent interior of the Citadel revealed, and Shiver raised his brow at the sight.
"I will take you to the Empress, follow," One of the guards said, as she motioned and began to march inside. "Step out of line, and suffer the consequences. This way."
Shiver made a wry expression as he fell into step with the taller guard. She walked with purpose, so the shorter Arcosian had to quicken his pace every so often to keep up. The pair passed through large corridors, decorated with assortments of items on display, some of which drew Shiver's eye. But, before long, they reached another richly designed and ornate doorway, with yet more guards that stood before it, and Shiver was presented.
"This citizen has been summoned by Empress Ise," The guiding guard said, as she looked down to Shiver. "He is now under your guard, and I return to my post."
Then, with an about-turn, the guard walked away. Shiver watched her leave for several moments, then turned back to look at the inner-chamber guards. He wasn't certain of the expectation from his end of it all, so instead stood silently and waited for - he surmised - permission to enter the Empress's presence or meeting hall or whatever else...
