Ryze could only hazard a guess when it came to how the pirates might have operated without their leader, assuming they were all connected, so he responded as best he could. "Maybe there's other leaders, first mates or co-captains?" The Cerealian wasn't entirely sure, he had never really delved into the complexity of pirate crews, he just stopped them. "Maybe corrupt prison guards gave Skullface opportunity, who knows. And you can take on as many as you want, but Skullface is mine."
After the brief mention of Ara's father, the pair began to inspect the smuggling ship from stationary levitation. The distance was still far, though with the aid of his red right eye, Ryze could see close enough from the height that he could make out faces of the crew that wandered the deck. There weren't many above-deck, the ocean had been a little rough out in the open water, but was now calm nearer the island again. When Ara mentioned getting closer, and whether Ryze could see them under the given conditions, he nodded.
"Yeah, to both," Ryze said. "Not much activity on the top deck, and it looks slick from the ocean water. The distance and darkness don't matter too much, no."
Since the pair had just met, Ryze wasn't comfortable explaining the specifics of his - and his species' - evolved eye. In time, if they developed a positive working relationship, sure; but for now, it was something of a trade secret, or at least a personal one, even if some out there knew about Cerealians and the capabilities of the enhanced vision they possessed. Besides, Ara suggested the pair should land near the ship, once it docked, to prepare for the next phase of evidence gathering.
"Sounds good," Ryze said as he glanced to Ara. "Judging by the speed of approach, and if we don't rush, they should dock by the time we land. Ready if you are?"
Usually, Ryze might have taken a more active role in decisions, but this wasn't his operation to complete. He was here to see what Ara could do, offer support as needed, though otherwise it was totally up to her to pass - or fail - as she would. Besides, the Cerealian was a firm believer of first-hand experience, being thrown into the deep end as it were, and wanted to see how Ara could handle the pressure and make quick decisions...
